Ngl I feel like Robert’s dry sense of humor, degree of wit, surprising eloquence, and unrelenting determination/selflessness, plus his prestige as Mecha Man, would make him a beloved social media icon if only someone made a twitter account for him.
Like maybe SDN forces him to create an account to help support their branding and image, but Robert super does not want to do All That bc he views it as a distraction from his work. So, Blazer assures him that they can get PR or an intern to manage the account for him. But Robert wants that even less because under no circumstances does he ever want someone else to speak for him.
So, he makes the account. It gets verified or whatever and his following skyrockets almost immediately bc duh, he’s Mecha Man! But his posting is super boring for a while bc all he does is post about SDN events.
Robert also hates it bc he’s not doing anything that SDN as a company does for themselves, and posting about galas and statistics makes him feel like a corporate tool. So he just starts doing whatever he wants.
He shows the waiting masses the empanadas he got on a street corner at the end of his patrol and guess what! That tiny little cart on the corner explodes in popularity to the point that the family-run business can finally afford to expand.
Then the internet explodes with the viral revelation that MM has a dog. (Robert doesn’t post an entire pic of Beef for the somewhat irrational fear that someone might recognize him via his dog if he took Beef on a walk.) But Robert posts a mildly amusing photo of his foot next to Beef’s itty bitty teeny tiny paw and captions it “like father like son” or something. It sparks a conspiracy theory that he banged a hot werewolf baddie.
And over time, as his real personality starts to come through, Mecha Man gains a reputation as a sharp proverbial blade to be deeply feared online. Basically, what Derek guy is to menswear forums and rude assholes online, Robert is to superhero socmed. No hero ever wants to get blasted by MM for bragging about their powers publicly, because he WILL find some way to put them in their place.
The Bone Zone used to run smear campaigns by saying MM sold out to go corporate or that he’s washed bc he now works with a bunch of ex criminals. But after the ninth or tenth viral clawback where MM ratios his posts online by like 10 to 1 (partly due to his popularity and partly due to how devastating Robert’s one liners are), the Bone Zone stops going after Mecha Man entirely bc every time it happens, he hemorrhages his follower count.
And ironically, the moment Robert starts getting sassy online is the exact moment Flambae and Prism start to genuinely respect him as a person.
