Over 90% of parents of visibly intersex children opt for cosmetic surgery on their infants.

The ones that don't experience medical violence then, likely experience it as a teenager.

I didn't.

I am very rare in that I did not experience medical violence.

Why? Because I learned what intersexuality was as a young age, and I actively fought against what doctors wanted to do to me. All the way down to legal research on what medical care minors can be forced into. I remember walking into that doctor's appointment with the state law written down that proved that if I did not consent they could not do surgery.

That is why intersex activism is important. It saved me and it will save more.

this is probably the worst place to give this take but i think that if you’re asexual due to medical/chemical/hormonal etc reasons (and you could theoretically be “cured”), you still count as asexual. like i don’t think the “why” matters very much.

“I don’t understand why people 65+ would want to move across the country to retire to Florida?” They hate their grandkids and they hate paying taxes. I am so serious. It was always the meanest, nastiest, most selfish people moving to Florida and forcing their entire family to deal with the logistical nightmare. Source? My anecdotal experience with the grandparents of my friends growing up. Also, if you are a thoughtful person and you love your family and your family loves you, you are not going to leave them just to live somewhere sunnier.

Hey so a small thing that literally everyone who sees this is capable of is correcting any “used to” statements about native people in this country.

“Native people used to live in this National Park” No. They still do.

“Native people used to tell these stories-” No. They still do.

“Native people used to use this plant as a natural remedy-” No. They still do.

Better yet, familiarize yourself with the tribes local to you. Odds are, they do not yet have federal recognition. You can still read the stories they have to share, you can share their ongoing battle for recognition with others, you can sign petitions and spread the word to others to do so as well. But do something.

Just a reminder that the Chinook Indian Nation was one of the very few tribes to be recognized and then have that recognition rescinded. They've been fighting to regain recognition ever since, and you can find out more about how to help them no matter where you are at ChinookJustice.org.

70+ tribes have lost their federal recognition since the 1800s for various reasons that mostly boil down to treaties and policies that prioritized termination of tribes and “integration into American society.” Many tribes are also unrecognized as separate from a larger tribe, meaning they can access benefits by enrolling in the recognized tribe but by doing so weaken the chance of their own tribe ever gaining recognition because the government only recognizes one tribal affiliation per person (also screwing over the many people with ancestors in multiple tribes). And since they have no support, they struggle to continue as a community to practice their traditions and consistent community, which is a (hard to prove) requirement for regaining that recognition

Find and learn about the people near you. My closest tribe is one of those that lost their federal recognition thanks to legal nonsense. I regularly hear people around here calling them “pretendians” while at the same time they’re barred from many activities like educating others at schools and public events due to their lack of recognition. Yeah, there are people out there faking things, but there are also many people who have been fighting for recognition for decades, and with a little looking and listening it’s not hard to learn the difference

Also, like, benevolent sexist stereotypes are definitely used to make those who don't fit them feel like failures as women (especially queer women/trans women/woc/neurodivergent women/etc).

And on the flip side, they're also used to deny women who are skilled at those things credit for their accomplishments. It's easy for people to dismiss an excellent childcare worker when her "~magical gender intuition makes her naturally good at it~".

Sudden switch from diverse user agents like chrome, safari, messenger preview to Just Claudebot. I'm not even mad though, this is maybe the funniest thing possible, because I've inadvertently poisoned their training data with thousands of fucked up articles with normal urls.

Pikiwedia perseveres, back up with a better robots.txt. I hope Anthropic has a gery vood time with Pikiwedia's data :))

I maintain that the best summation of my feminist beliefs are that men and women are not fundamentally different. There are a few quantifiable differences if you average out every woman and every man, but they are not qualitative. And most of them are socially constructed, and would be fixed if we started treating men and women the same. Neither is inherently smarter, neither is inherently kinder, neither is inherently more stoic or stronger or angrier or softer. Everyone is obsessed with the differences between women and men, with finding them and creating them and distancing themselves from the "other half". It's fucked up

It seems that we've been having very different experiences on social media, we have seen very, very different posts and discourses, actions and reactions going on (I'm primarily on Bluesky, which is a factor in that), you may be seeing aggressive overcorrection coming down on trans women saying things that are just rude, while I'm seeing other trans women dogpiling trans MEN (said with venom) and being hateful in ways that run the gamut, up to and including openly calling for violence and enthusiastic agreement, in the name of protecting trans women, and trans men reacting with expressions of alienation and self-hatred (the harm I am, at this point, most concerned with), and for that reason I don't believe divisive and transandrophobic language is not something to be on guard about, particularly before it gets to that point.

But y'know. If you're saying there are some rude trans women being overcorrected somewhere I believe you. People not always responding with equal and appropriate energy is not exactly a new thing for social media.

Suffering is not enlightening. You can come to the wrong conclusions through it. Sometimes VERY wrong, actually, perpetuating suffering.

The oppression any one trans woman faces does not have the ability to grant enlightenment about all of transness, as some sort of consolation prize for suffering oppression.

Sometimes even a group of trans women put together can't say one accurate thing about trans men.

Please stop insisting trans women to speak for us.

Idolizing trans women for suffering and taking everything they say wholesale even if it's not about them is more about making yourself feel better and giving meaning and a bright side to their oppression, than actually learning. It's a refusal to understand oppression as truly pointless and fully understanding why it must end. The noble and enlightened sufferer is a known problematic trope.
