Hunter's eyes were closed at Rax's insistence. Rax's heart was beating out of his chestβnervous, but excited to see what Hunter would think of today.
βGo ahead and open your eyes now, honeybee,β Raxil said softly, holding Hunter's hand to guide him.
Hunter opened his eyes, they sparkled under the golden sunlight. Raxil's heart began to flutter, he likes it, he likes it!, he thought. Hunter didn't say a wordβhe couldn'tβhe was absolutely breathless. He'd open his mouth to speak, but nothing came out, just soft squeaks and whimpers of excitement. Suddenly, Rax felt nervous.
βDo you like it? I thought you might enjoy something like this.β He swallowed hard, questioning his plans. Perhaps I should have done this differently.
βRaxil...β Hunter's voice was soft, almost a whisper. βThis is so... beautiful. It's amazing! It's... Is this what you've been planning all this time? A date at the butterfly sanctuary?β
Raxil signed with relief, βYes. I have been biting my tongue and trying to not ruin the surprise. I heard it was being built. I could not wait to bring you here. It has been a long wait.β
Tears began to well in Hunter's eyes, his throat bobbing to swallow them. βThis is incredible, Rax. Thank you so much for this. I... I don't know what to say.β
βYou do not have to say anything. All I want is for you to have fun, my love,β Raxil smiled, watching the flecks of gold in Hunter's eyes shine bright in the sun. The tears dripped onto Hunter's cheeks, Raxil reached to wipe them away with his thumbs.
Raxil stood next to his mate, listening attentively to learn all that Hunter knew about butterflies. Hunter would point out this one and that, talking about what their scientific names were, where their names came from and how that one had been saved from extinction. Raxil's heart swelled. He'd gotten this right. He'd made Hunter happyβmade him smile and squeal with giddiness. The wait was worth it.
Hunter's chatter settled and he looked at Raxil with loving eyes. I can't believe he did this for me, he thought. Maybe it wasn't a big deal to others, but it was for him. He'd never had anyone plan anything like this for him before. Raxil was an incredible personβwell, alienβand Hunter didn't understand how he got so lucky, but he'd learn to accept that luck over the time they've been together. He grabbed Rax to hug him close and hard, as if to send all of the love in his body to Rax's. Raxil smiled dreamily at Hunter, his hands resting on Hunter's waist.
βI am glad you are having a good time, honeybee.β Raxil kissed Hunter's forehead.
Hunter wrapped his arms around Raxil's neck, βI'm having the best time.β Hunter pressed a chaste kiss onto Rax's lips.
Hunter had decided it was time. His heat was coming in two weeks; if he wanted to remember every detail of their first time together, it had to be tonight. Hunter thought it was fate. Raxil had planned a perfect day for them and now Hunter would plan the perfect night.
