Ok so I was lying awake in bed thinking about random shit and then I decide to start reading the fandom wiki pages for fandom characters I like, right? So then I get to David from the series Camp Camp. I was reading through his wiki when I started realizing... In several episodes David stated that Cameron Campbell was like the father he never had, and in one of them, he said it in a way that suggested he grew up without a father. This implies that either he’s an orphan or he grew up with only his mother. As I continued, I started noticing that the wiki page mentioned several times that David would often collapse under pressure and break down into a sobbing, trembling panic attack and the slightest feel of failure. In one episode of Caml Camp, David went to the kitchens and saw that the pantry was empty or something like that (I don’t remember exactly) and started crying that he was a failure and couldn’t do anything right. This made me start to think that maybe David went through some sort of trama in his early years that caused this utter phobia of failure. Back to what I said about David growing up with his mother or in an orphanage. It is very likely that David was put through emotional and potentially physical abuse as a child. Imagine it, a young David living in a house without a father and his abusive mother. David’s “normal” happy-go-lucky attitude also supports this theory. Many people have the mindset that they have to hide how they really feel and cover up the cracks in their facade with smiles and laughs. And another thing about that would be the fact of the events that occurred in the episode “The Forest”. David went on an entire emotional and brutal journey through the woods to try his way back to camp after getting lost. He was cold, his was injured, he had a broken leg for crying out loud. We even get to see him lose his temper when he goes to kill the wolf that had been terrorizing him in the midst of a panic attack, but David can’t bring himself to do it so simply drops the boulder he had picked up and cried. But the time skip where we see David with a beard, and a semi healed leg, taking care of the wolf and nourishing it back to health really got to me. He went through hell in that forest, with the wolf being a major cause of most of it, and he put those negative feelings aside to help her. When the wolf later is killed by a bear while protecting David, we see him bury her and call her friend. This is the creature that caused him to break his leg and endure so much heart ache, and he still cares so much about her. The fact that David simply covers up all the emotion he had when returning to camp astoundes me. If he can hide all that with a smile, what else is he hiding?

Someone else (i think in a youtube comment) mentioned too something that I haven't been able to get out of my head: In fiction a wolf is often used in symbolism for a sexual predator/abuse which is something I've noticed too

Very off general topic, but have you ever read an author named Wally Lamb? Recently they announced one of his books is in production for a miniseries, its called I Know This Much Is True, its a loooong book but its themes about mental health, toxic masculinity (and I mean actual toxic masculinity not what tumblr thinks it is), domestic and child abuse, racism, men seeking therapy, and therapy in general are kinda perfect for the conversations opening about those things today
