1. Jill had a hysterectomy.

Quite simply, there is no evidence to support this, and no, “not posting a lot on Instagram after Samuel’s birth” is not evidence. There could be a million reasons she wasn’t posting a lot, the most simple being that she was exhausted, overwhelmed and busy looking after her kids and recovering from her C-section. I believe she and Derick are using some form of birth control, and that’s why they haven’t had any more kids yet. I think they will eventually have more, but maybe not until Derick is finished with law school and articling.

2. Anna desperately wants to leave, but can’t because she is financially tied down.

I believe Anna has fully drunk the Kool-Aid. I think she loves Josh and genuinely believes that Satan/the devil gave him temptations and that the love of Christ has redeemed him. She may be stressed out, financially dependent on the Duggars and mistreated, but I don’t believe she is secretly wishing she could escape.

3. Jana does all the work around the Duggar home, and that’s why she isn’t married.

I think it’s quite the opposite. If Jana was desperately overworked and eager to leave, marriage would be her ticket out—and she definitely has no shortage of courtship offers, being attractive fundie royalty.  I think Jana is actually trying to slack off by remaining at home, where she has no job and few responsibilities because even the youngest kids are pretty old. Now that Josie and the other “little ones” are old enough to take care of many chores and don’t need intensive supervision, and now that there are only 14 Duggars living at home, I think life has gotten substantially easier, and Jana doesn’t want the added responsibilities of lower income + pregnancy + infant care that comes with getting fundie married.

4. Jana and Lawson are secretly courting.

This is literally just fanfiction, and there’s no evidence to suggest it. Also, why wouldn’t they just come out and announce it if they were courting? I don’t think Jana and Lawson are really compatible, since Lawson is unbearably narcissistic and self-obsessed.

5. Jill has terrible depression and hates her marriage.

The fact that her food looks gross, her kids look neglected and her house is ugly may seem significant to us, but Jill is just living the way she was raised. I don’t think there’s any evidence to support Jill regretting her marriage to Derick or having PPD. I think Jill just doesn’t have social media savvy or good taste in food or aesthetics, and it causes her social media to sound awkward, forced and uncomfortable. I think she is just socially awkward and that’s it.

6. Jinger has “escaped.”

No, she absolutely hasn’t. Wearing skinny jeans is not feminism. If Jinger were getting an education and/or getting a job, that might lead to independence. As it is, she is married to a religious fundamentalist whose literal job is being a preacher. She married a man who, despite having an education, a career and sexual experience, preferred a younger girl with none of those things, who came from a TV-famous religious fundamentalist family. It can be simultaneously true that she and Jeremy love each other, and their relationship is fundamentally unequal because Jeremy can leave her and still be financially independent, whereas Jinger is totally dependent on either her husband or her father.

7. Lauren is a terrible person.

Look at things that can lead to depression that she has experienced

• sexual abuse, particularly as a child - whether or not Jill truly forgives Josh for what he did to her, that is still a trauma that she went through, and that sort of thing has an affect on you for the rest of your life, especially if you don’t receive counseling (which Jill didn’t)

• isolation - Jill moved, along with Derick and Israel to Central America, almost as soon as they could. She was cut off from her support system and had to start from scratch, in a place that she didn’t know, where she didn’t speak the language.

• major life changes - She was cut from Counting On, whether by her own choice, or by TLC, but either way, thats a big change for Jill, who had been on television since the age of fourteen

she also went through at least one difficult birth, likely two. PPD is a very real possibility imho
