James Was Originally Gonna Be A Survivor, But Was Changed To Cheryl At The Last Minute.

And God, did she need *everything*. He couldn't afford a nurse for her, and though Rachel lived in the apartment complex with them and offered her help time and again; *he* was the one changing her sheets, *he* was the one cleaning her bed pan and making sure her feeding tubes were all aligned. (neat little ducklings in a row.) James was so *tired*. His whole body hurt, like instead of being used as a verbal punching bag the woman on his wifes bed stood up and punched him until he lay on the ground and then kicked the everloving fuck out of him. Physical sound off, round one! James was tired. *So, fucking tired*.

She's calling for him again. He can barely hear her, and for a moment he walks into the kitchen and turns the tap on just so he *can't* hear her. He hates himself for it immediately after, snapping the faucet off and turning on his heel to stalk to her bedroom. There's a woman on his wifes bed and she glares so hatefully at him that James feels like shrivelling up and dying; that he deserves every hateful word she's thrown at him. It feels like a weighted ton on his shoulders and James *hates* it, hates feeling unwelcome in his *own fucking house*. And he hates her, too. He can't recognize the woman on the bed as his wife, and maybe that's what makes it so easy.
