if someone asked me to write two separate examples of a close friendship and a romantic relationship respectively I couldn't do it because especially in fiction. those are like the same to me. couldn't tell the difference.
and you might say well in one of those relationships they kiss or in one of those relationships they have sex and I'd say that's awfully presumptuous.
the concept of being allo is crazy. how do you know. 😭
I'm trying to think about how this works when it also comes to being rose-repulsed.
I don't think I have a better answer. What's the difference? Heck if I know but kissing makes me nauseous.
I have no idea how to convey this. There's a difference and I feel different but I can't tell you what the difference is because I don't understand it.
I have been consumed by the thought of Ash and Pikachu in a spinoff game because i realized wait this plot works for ash and this could be really cool and as such have written like 3,700 words of story... and over 900 words of notes.
I don't want to say which spinoff it is publicly yet, and if this does become a thing I'm probably gonna wait until it's at least a third of the way done before I start posting.
What I will reveal at this point:
It's one of the shorter and less densely-packed spinoff games.
I've chosen to set the starting point of the story in early Sun and Moon, after Ash catches Litten but before the trip to Akala Island.
i wrote 1350 more words today
I've realized that with all the different ways you could interpret Ash's character and have it work that the statement of the story working well with Ash is incredibly vague and this gives essentially no indication of what's actually going on, and depending on what direction you're thinking of what I'm actually doing could catch you completely off-guard.
... Don't think I'm in any hurry to change that, though.
Finished my draft for the second chapter last night!
Just wanted to share that by sheer coincidence both of the first two chapters ended up being 5,104 words according to LibreOffice Writer.
It took a while, but I finished Chapter 3's draft just a little bit ago.
It was 7,351 words.
A pretty good chunk of that, over 3,000 words of it, was written today and yesterday.
Anyway, with that, I've now written up to 35% of the word count I wanna have written in advance before I start posting!
And then I blasted through Chapter 4 in only three days.
Chapter 5 hasn't been as quick to write, but I have been working on it today and I have officially passed 25,000 words in total written for this fic!
That's the halfway point of how much I want to get written before I actually bother to explain what it is!
Chapter five now only has one more scene left to write... The first one, because I skipped over it to write the rest of the chapter.
The rest of the chapter is 5,106 words, with POV sections of Pikachu, Ash, and [mystery friend whose identity would instantly spoil which game i'm adapting].
Chapter 5 draft done! Word count is 5,445, bringing the total for the story up to 28,602!
I... really do hope I'm able to make this story a thing. I think I'll take a short break from writing for a few hours, at least, and then pick up back to Chapter 6.

Actually something else I want to share about the Pokémon fic I'm working on. Or maybe it counts as two things?
Although the story is centered around Ash and Pikachu, and that these are key aspects of the fic that mine is most directly inspired by, the concepts of "Chosen One" and "Aura" are not really present at all.
Today, I was reminded of a... well, the best word for it is probably 'aggravating', time in the world of Pokémon fanfiction.
Once upon a time, on FFNet there were a group of people who would review basically every new story with copy-paste reviews of the same repeated complaints over and over and over.
A point that particularly came up was that they'd "correct" anyone who capitalized a Pokémon name when referring to a species, instead of just when using it as an individual's name.
As you can imagine, most people do this.
And then, of course, people get fed up with this, so another group starts leaving reviews on every new story warning people of the first group.
So the entire community was swamped with reviews that had little-to-nothing productive to say, and the whole thing was just generally demoralizing.
Fun times (sarcasm).
People in the comment section of fanfics should only speak when spoken to.
Yeah, this... Was an unpleasant time. I remember that at the time it was happening, I would look at fic reviews and block anyone I saw doing either thing because I just did not want to deal with it, even if I was not posting Pokémon fics myself at the time.
And I'm quite sure that anyone else who's been around the block for a while can back up this story, it got bad.
Hey so uhh weird question but hypothetically what would you guys do with half of a coyote skeleton?
Is "hypothetically" the correct word to use here?
I just wrote 400 words describing Ash and Pikachu using a Gigavolt Havoc from the perspective of someone who has no idea what a Z-Move is.
💬 0 🔁 6 ❤️ 14 · Someone smarter than Ash probably would have turned around and prepared more, but Ash wasn't smarter than Ash, and he had
And to be clear, yes this character is the same "friend" described in this post. There's a hint for you, this character has no way of knowing what a Z-Move is.

How do you feel about held items in Pokémon the Series fics?
I've got my own opinion that I'm going to stick with, but the anime itself doesn't really use them and I was curious about how people felt about them showing up in anime fics.
What's your opinion?
I like them
I'm neutral
I dislike them
I just wanna see the results
My opinion below cut.
#but i don't think held items are something that like. most people use in pokeani verse
Not counting the ones directly related to battle gimmicks like mega stones (those aren't the sort of "held items" I'm talking about in the first place), I believe there's only two instances of items that actually do anything* being used during battle, both from Sun and Moon:
Lycanroc is healed with a Sitrus Berry during Ash's Grand Trial with Nanu.
Gladion using memories to change Silvally's type.
*Rowlet's Everstone being used as a projectile does not qualify as "doing something"
The first instance treats the use of the berry as a special circumstance allowed because it was provided by Tapu Bulu, strongly implying that this is normally not allowed.
And... That's pretty much it! The anime is much more heavily focused on the idea of Pokémon and trainer working together, using their environment, and coming up with creative uses for moves or combining them in interesting ways. Or just doing things that aren't even moves in the first place.
#i think that like. if a fic was about a character taking on the Sinnoh Battle Frontier and the character was a competitve battler who did #a lot of strategizing. then it'd feel in place for me. like i wouldn't mind seeing a choice scarf there
Choice items are good examples where the item even existing at all bothers me. It's a prime example of one that feels "video gamey" even beyond just how much item-based strategies tend to feel that way to me in general, and in my eyes it clashes with the more undefined and flexible nature of moves themselves in the anime setting. And also the general nonexistence of stats.
Something I've been thinking about recently is character development... and, more specifically, that not every character needs it. And I don't just mean minor characters, either! I mean major characters, I mean main characters, I mean protagonists.
As with all tropes, character development is a tool. It has a purpose, it has a place, and it can be used or misused. Sometimes what makes a character interesting is how the world reacts to them, and the change they inspire in others. Sometimes it's not. There's no one answer.

Hey has anyone else gotten really insightful comments on fics and then if you respond to them, they ask to talk more off-site? I give my Tumblr as my only social media (and nothing else) but they don't seem to want to contact it? Not sure if this is a scam- these comments seem human, mention my OCs by name, and have a good grasp at what's going on in the fic (themes, plot, etc.). It's just the follow up that seems...off.
EDIT- Scam :(
Yeah, it's a scam... I got one a while back, responded with a blunt "No" to the request to go off-site, and then got some response like "Why not dear?" that made me feel sick to my stomach. And then I blocked and deleted all the comments.
It's honestly disgusting because both times they were really well-thought out comments. For some reason they don't like Tumblr, which allowed me to believe in Santa a little longer. I think if we met off-site and they pulled the "I do art commishies OwO" card, I would've figured it out.
Anyway, have a free Pikachu Digimon- Pikamon- from my fic. Not only because I know you love Pikachu, but as proof that I can draw, have been drawing for this entire fic, and am the last person on Earth in need of an art commission.
Oh. Oh this reminds me. I once got a scam comment offering to do illustrations after updating a work on AO3.
The update was not an actual chapter, but, in fact, consisted entirely of an illustration I made myself:
Sharing my favourite games list again
A compiled list of Video Games released in 2025 that tumblr might have played or had a big interest in
What games have you played
0-20%
20-40%
40-60%
60-80%
80-100%
Only Digimon Time Stranger and Pokemon Legends Z-A.
4%: Donkey Kong Bananza, Mario Kart World, Yooka-Replaylee, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and Deltarune.

All I want is a crochet tutorial for a Pikachu doll that actually fucking looks like Pikachu. I know it can be done. I know there’s a way to do it but none of you are telling me and I don’t want to sit around doing fucking math in order to make my own fucking Pikachu design.
if you actually find one i want to see the final result so bad.
