Every few months I think to myself "what exactly is Wario and waluigi's relationship. They're not brothers so what are they" and I check the wiki and it doesn't say their connection
That's actually the one and only part that's real. The rest of it is a hoax, but that bit? That bit just had the wording at the start of the caption changed slightly from "He's so bad" to "Waluigi was so bad early in his career".
I have been consumed by the thought of Ash and Pikachu in a spinoff game because i realized wait this plot works for ash and this could be really cool and as such have written like 3,700 words of story... and over 900 words of notes.
I don't want to say which spinoff it is publicly yet, and if this does become a thing I'm probably gonna wait until it's at least a third of the way done before I start posting.
What I will reveal at this point:
It's one of the shorter and less densely-packed spinoff games.
I've chosen to set the starting point of the story in early Sun and Moon, after Ash catches Litten but before the trip to Akala Island.
I've realized that with all the different ways you could interpret Ash's character and have it work that the statement of the story working well with Ash is incredibly vague and this gives essentially no indication of what's actually going on, and depending on what direction you're thinking of what I'm actually doing could catch you completely off-guard.
... Don't think I'm in any hurry to change that, though.
Chapter five now only has one more scene left to write... The first one, because I skipped over it to write the rest of the chapter.
The rest of the chapter is 5,106 words, with POV sections of Pikachu, Ash, and [mystery friend whose identity would instantly spoil which game i'm adapting].
Chapter 5 draft done! Word count is 5,445, bringing the total for the story up to 28,602!
I... really do hope I'm able to make this story a thing. I think I'll take a short break from writing for a few hours, at least, and then pick up back to Chapter 6.

Didn't realize when I made the previous post, but in my original post I said I wanted to get to the point of being at least a third of the way done before revealing what the story is, and in the most recent post I noted that I've gotten to roughly a third of the way through the original game's story.
... So, actually, my more specific goal was to get to 50,000 words before I reveal what's going on, and I estimated that the story as a whole would probably end up somewhere between 100K and 150K words when I began writing. This is where the "at least a third" came from. Thus far, this estimate has held up, and I think it's more likely to be closer to the lower end of it.
Chapter 7 is complete. 5,188 words, bringing the current total to 38,775.
... You ever write a scene, and, suddenly, one of the characters just clicks, in a way they hadn't before? Where you finally get their deal and what you're going to do with them?
Anyway also this one has Ash talking about his dad. That's not really relevant to the previous point, but it did happen.

I also put together some cover art for my fic putting Ash and Pikachu in Gates to Infinity! I decided to use sprites for this, because... Well, one, the sprites from the PMD Sprite Repository are very nice and you should check it out. And, two, my idea for a cover would have required me to draw eleven different characters, which is a tad much and would take so much time that I could use for writing instead. So, for both practical and stylistic reasons, I decided to go with this.

I LOVE how Pokémon Mystery Dungeon did pixel art. A close friend of mine shared this link in a gaming server I was in some years ago and I made my Mudkip pfp from it and use it everywhere.

Love these, by the way. They have not only portraits in the style of the old PMD games, both adding more emotions for existing Pokémon and adding in Pokémon from later generations, but they also have so many new gameplay sprites, too!
So, I've been wondering, what's the best way to show what my new fic is about? Or the funniest? And I've made a decision. I haven't quite reached my goal of 50,000 words yet, but today seemed like the right day to finally show my hand.
Anyway. For my fics, I like to have little custom horizontal lines, usually with sprites. For this fic, I've decided to have it so that different POV characters will each have their own portraits at the top of their sections. Seemed fun!
For the reveal, I'm going to show off the horizontal lines used for the first eight chapters, in the order in which they first appear. Chapter 9's got another one but it spoils a minor plot point (and probably needs tweaking) so not showing it. Let's see how many it takes to figure out where I'm going with this.

Like I said, I was going to wait until I reached 50,000 words written in advance to do this, but... Well, today is Pokémon Mystery Dungeon day, and I'm less than 3,000 words away from that goal. I still plan to wait until I reach that goal - most likely by finishing Chapter 9 - before I start to post anything. But that still means...
I sort of had another thought about the types of Ash fanfics that bother me. You know, the different starters, the evolving all his Pokémon (Pikachu in particular of course), the "smart"/"competent" Ash, catching different "strong" Pokémon... Heck, even just having Ash treating being strong as his primary goal. So, the thought was about... Well, what is it here that bothers me?
And it was actually seeing people discussing different starter AUs, people who enjoyed these fics, what they had to say shed some light on it. That Ash in these has effectively been replaced by an OC despite still having the same name. And much the same happens to Pikachu! Having him evolve effectively replaces him with an OC in my eyes, and different starter AUs literally replace him with an OC.
Ash gets treated as a stand-in for the player of the games. But even at his most generic, even in the early days (note: not the same thing), that just isn't what Ash is. He has his own distinct philosophies, convictions, dreams, and goals; which do not fit well with the idea of a player stand-in. Or, for that matter, with the sort of protagonist you might expect based on the presence of mons and battling.

I understand why people are fascinated by hypothetical scenarios where Ash has a different starter Pokémon and is smarter.
Even so, I don’t want to read it; I simply don’t like those kinds of stories. Sure, I’m fine with you exploring scenarios where he gets an Eevee or a Riolu instead, but that’s not for me; I want the Pikachu that defeats Legendary Pokémon despite its terrible attitude, and I want a clumsy Ash who doesn’t know the ins and outs of Pokémon type matchups because ¡surprise! he’s a ten year old kid exploring the world.
So, if someone recommends a "great" fanfic based on those kinds of premises, I’m not going to read it. It doesn’t matter if it’s the eighth wonder of the world, if it includes clichés I usually enjoy, or if it portrays the characters well (for the most part); the moment I see a "Smart Ash" tag or a description like "What if Ash had woken up early?" or "What if his starter Pokémon had been a Riolu?", I automatically rule it out.
Of course, these are matters of personal taste; if you like them, that is completely respectable.
Also Pikachu evolving is something I will immediately rule out a story for. He wouldn't do that and I don't like it.
Though, I have had a thought regarding these before, and all of these examples actually share a common problem that kills my interest.
Smart Ash: Effectively replaces Ash with an OC
Different Starter: Literally replaces Pikachu with an OC, may also involve effectively replacing Ash with an OC
Pikachu Evolving: Effectively replaces Pikachu with an OC
Ash, Pikachu, or both are either effectively or literally replaced with OCs. They aren't actually making a real attempt at contending with these characters or their dynamic.
But, if I enjoy these characters and dynamic as they are, and am looking for more... If it's the thing that leads to me seeking out fics in the first place, of course I'm not going to enjoy stories that go against that. Their quality doesn't matter, I'm never going to like them no matter how well executed they are.

I have also had the very silly idea of the Mew that is Ash and Pikachu's parent in my Pichu Ash fic showing up dressed like this to join Project Mew.
Or just to be a trainer in general, I have had a future idea regarding them acting as one briefly for some time, but Project Mew maximizes the humor and absurdity of the situation.
I would like to clarify that said future idea originally involved them transforming into a human, but now I want to do this instead because it's just going to be so much funnier.

Creators shouldn't be revealing lore and crucial character information on social media; they should show it in their stories. It feels lazy to disclose significant details on social platforms instead of incorporating them into their work. Also the fans who aren't following the creators are losing out on important information, which is unfair to them.
When creators write a story, they should show the vital details about their world and characters within it instead of revealing everything elsewhere.
