Honestly, the fanon version of TADC is more interesting than canon because the characters and their relationships are far more fleshed out. The characters actually feel like a community of people living together instead of NPCs who exist around each other and barely know one another. Some people only started watching TADC because they thought it would be as entertaining as the fan art, only to be disappointed when it turned out to be the Jax show.
Fandom has warped people's idea of what a “problem” is because when a creator says or does heinous shit, thousands of fans defend them or claim it's all lies despite the evidence. However, when it comes to fictional characters, fans will harass creators for disproving their headcanons, not making their ships official, or when they dislike the writing direction of a character.
Fans harassed Dana Terrance for confirming Frankie as a cisgender woman; for Kei Urana, it was because she said she was disinterested in shipping. JJK fans were threatening to harm Gege Akutami for killing off Gojo, and BNHA fans harassed Kohei Horikoshi for making Izuocha canon.
Unless a creator's actions directly affect their enjoyment of the story, people don't care about what the creator is doing. They rarely call creators out on serious matters, but when the issue seems trivial, they go too far over it.
Jax refused to change, chose to be abusive and hurt people, and wanted to keep everyone at a distance. She drove both of her friends into abstraction and tormented Ragatha and Gangle for years, knowing it damaged their mental state yet refusing to stop. However despite all of this, Goose never let the cast acknowledge how truly horrible Jax was; they treated her more like a jaded jerk instead of an abuser who was hurting them. They even acted as if they were responsible for her well-being, remaining patient and supporting her despite all the harm she caused.
It’s understandable that no one wanted Jax to abstract, but at the same time, they weren’t obligated to continue tolerating her and keep trying to help someone who wouldn’t help herself. Even after she abstracted, Ragatha blamed herself for not doing more to stop it, and Pomni risked death trying to save her even after seeing Jax’s fantasies of strangling her, sexually harassing Gangle, and learning that Jax caused Ribbit’s and Kaufmo’s abstractions. Goose admitted that Jax was a horrible person, but at the same time she never explored just how truly awful she was. Instead of focusing on Jax’s victims and delving into how her abuse affected them, she spent nearly 40 minutes of the finale trying to make her empathetic. As for her abstraction, Goose treated it as if it were a consequence within itself instead of a permanent escape from any potential ramifications for her actions.
Personally, I would’ve preferred if the cast realized that they’re not responsible for Jax and confronted her about her abuse, being tired of tolerating her behavior and dealing with her trauma. This pushes Jax over the edge because she has destroyed her relationship with the only group of people who tried to help her and is now truly alone, having to bear the weight of her awfulness on her own. She abstracts, finding it easier to die than to repent.
In the end, victims aren’t responsible for saving their abusers and shouldn’t compromise their well-being for theirs.
The world of TADC felt like it didn’t exist until Pomni arrived, and what I mean by this is that the characters started learning information about each other and the circus once she arrived despite most of them having been there for years. Ragatha has known Kinger for years, yet Pomni discovered in episode 3 that he’s sane in the dark and didn’t disclose this information until episode 8. You could argue Caine kept Kinger in the light to keep him senile, but if this were true, why did he allow Kinger into dark spaces on adventures? Are we supposed to believe that Ragatha and Kinger were never in the dark together on previous adventures then?
In episode 5, the cast speaks about their lives in the real world, which wouldn’t be an issue if most of them hadn’t been together for months or years by this point. Since Pomni is new, it’s understandable for her to be curious about everyone and to want to learn more about them while they feel the same about her. However, based on the conversation, apparently no one spoke to each other about themselves before Pomni came along.
For years, Kinger had administrator abilities but never used these skills before he lost his mind. He had the power to do something about Caine and the circus for years, yet he chose to do nothing. Kinger also knew that all of them were brain scans but didn’t say anything about it until the finale. If Caine had modified his mind, causing him to forget he could conjure items and alter his programming, Kinger's inaction would've been more understandable.
If everyone had joined the circus around the same time, the lack of knowledge about each other and the circus would’ve made sense. Another way this would’ve worked is if, when Pomni joined the circus, everyone else already knew they were brain scans and couldn’t escape. Yet, despite this, they still find enjoyment and comfort in their lives.

If Jax were just a jerk, I could understand the cast treating her like an asshole friend because that's exactly what she would’ve been. However, she abused Ragatha and Gangle for years and drove her two friends to suicide in the past, yet everyone still gave her far more grace than she deserved. They treated Jax as a far better person than she actually was.
Jax’s hold on everyone never made sense to me because she wasn’t an incredible manipulator, nor did she possess special privileges or abilities like Caine and Kinger that forced everyone to submit to her. She couldn’t do anything no one else could do, yet everyone let her do whatever she wanted without consequences. Yes, Kinger is senile, Ragatha is an abuse victim, and Gangle suffers from a debilitating mental illness, but Pomni and Zooble could’ve confronted Jax on her abuse; however, Goose refused to let this happen.
Goose reduced Pomni to an accessory for Jax’s character; she ignored how horrible Jax was unless her abuse directly affected her. She watched Jax treat Ragatha poorly and never did anything about it despite being her “best friend.” As for Zooble, they snapped at Jax a few times but never went further. For most of the show, they served only as a support and love interest for Gangle. Pomni and Zooble could've been the ones to end Jax's abuse, but alas, it never happened.
If someone had held Jax accountable for her abuse, she would've abstracted sooner because the weight of how horrible a person she was would’ve been too much to bear. Honestly, I would’ve preferred that to her simply abstracting without anyone ever properly confronting her and holding her accountable beforehand.
I still can't get over how the Hell Guard saw that Mildretta's gun was ineffective against Mymo in his God form yet still decided to unload bullets on him. Let's also include how the Hell Guard have anima-blocking cuffs they could've put on Mymo yet chose not to use them at all. They could've use these cuffs to prevent his transformation altogether. However, when it came to arresting Rudo and belittling Zanka, Kyouka and Goka locked that shit down.
Considering how we've heard about how "remarkable" Zanka and Kyouka are, I wonder if their parents view Goka as "average" and overlook him. We’ve heard that Zanka has an inextinguishable flame that allows for him to evolve while Kyouka was the top student at the Hell Guard Academy during her enrollment and commands the Red Horns. But Goka? Kyouka said his "best quality" is his sturdiness and that he must use it to protect Zanka and support the Hell Guard, acting as her second-in-command, but that's all so far.
Honestly, this makes me wonder whether the parents had Zanka because they found Goka unimpressive and hoped to create another child like or greater than Kyouka. This, combined with Kyouka favoring Zanka, would've caused Goka to develop a disdain for his little brother because their family overlooked him and deemed him “average.”

Characters being horrible isn't the issue; the issue is that creators sometimes avoid holding them accountable for their actions because of personal favoritism. Watching characters act like assholes can be frustrating when the cast stays passive and does nothing about it. In some cases, the cast never fully acknowledge that the asshole is a terrible person; instead, they treat them as if they were far better than they actually are, showering them with undeserved kindness and support.
Creators will also vilify other characters for being rightfully angry, even forcing those characters to apologize despite not being in the wrong. When they’re desperate for you to like them, they’ll shove their trauma in your face in a poor attempt to make you care about them out of pity instead of making them an enjoyable, well-written character.
When you have characters who are assholes and do terrible shit, then properly hold them accountable for it instead of twisting up your story so they get off with little to no consequences.
Kyouka is infantilizing Zanka, viewing him as a “naive” child who’s incapable of making his own decisions and whom Enjin manipulated into leaving for the Cleaners. While she could be oblivious to how poorly she and the rest of the Nijiku family have treated Zanka, it’s more likely she’s in denial and doesn’t want to admit that she’s part of why he left.
Kyouka finds it easier to vilify Enjin and blame him for her fractured relationship with Zanka than to take some responsibility and admit that her youngest brother left of his own volition.
I'm glad that Kyouka openly admitted she believes Enjin manipulated Zanka, because all the arguments about whether she was in love with him, was a bitter ex, or despised him irritated me.
We also get to see that she favors Zanka over Goka, who desperately tries to please her by living up to her expectations while punching down at their little brother. I wouldn’t be surprised if a later chapter reveals that part of Goka felt relieved when Zanka became a giver because he thought he would no longer have to compete with him, only to realize that Kyouka still favored their youngest sibling. I could also see Kyouka favoring Zanka because she related to him more personality-wise, which only fed into Goka's resentment of their youngest sibling since he felt left out.
However, I’m curious about the parents because they definitely caused the three of them to turn out like this. Although people don’t want to hear it, Kyouka, Goka, and Zanka are all victims of abuse, which affected them differently. Of course, this doesn’t excuse Kyouka and Goka’s treatment of Zanka, but it does explain their actions and behavior.
God, I fucking love the Nijiku siblings so much!
Honestly, I see both Hyo and Riyo suffering from feeling less than human but processing it in different ways. So far, Hyo doesn’t seem bothered by her inability to connect with others; she remains alone and takes whatever jobs come her way to keep herself entertained. I do believe a part of her remains curious about what it’s like to be close to other people while she tries to learn more about herself along the way.
As for Riyo, she’s clearly bothered that she isn’t changing like everyone else around her with a part of feeling like the same cold assassin as before. She feels stagnant compared to the people around her, watching as they grow while she seems left behind, and doesn’t know what to do with herself. Riyo also wants to change, but she isn’t sure how to go about it.
Hyo and Riyo have spent most of their lives being treated as objects, and now that they’re able to be human, they’re trying to figure out how to be one.
I know Zanshia shippers must be eating real fucking good right now.

Tamsy once he learns Mymo snitched and Enjin is still alive:
It's fine if you hate Kyouka and/or Goka, but claiming people condone abuse for liking them as characters is fucking wild. Some people are even facing attacks for shipping them with Enjin. Quick reminder: people can like characters without supporting their actions, and if that bothers you, block them.
