then Will takes him out on a course and shows him proper form and smiles too big when Mack plays like shit because he’s so proud of himself for teaching Mack and getting him to play with him.

Macklin absolutely knows how to play golf and is playing it up so Will keeps standing behind him and putting his hands over Mack’s and praising him, telling him he’s “such a fast learner mackie” and how Mack is “so good for him” when mack executes Will’s instructions almost perfectly all the while Mack is blushing so bright he convinces Will he has a sunburn.

Will doesn’t even know how his words sound, too focused on playing and helping Mack and the overwhelming pride that warms his chest and makes him smile all soft at Mack’s sloppy hits — one’s he would normally scold someone for, would give anyone else shit for it. but Mack is so eager to please, so pretty in the Boston sunshine that he can’t help but melt at the sight of his horrible playing.

plus, he’s Mack. more importantly, he’s Will’s Mack. so he thinks that speaks for itself.

(he’s also kind of a little hopelessly endeared when he realizes that Mack is pretending not to know how to golf just so Will can teach him, just so Will can rant and rave about the sport like Macklin talks about hockey)
