A Japanese Kawanishi H6K flying boat in mid air after interception by Allied aircraft during the 1940s.
Known to the Allies by the reporting name “Mavis”, the H6K was a long range flying boat operated by the Imperial Japanese Navy. It entered service in the late 1930s and was used extensively in the opening stages of the Pacific War.
The aircraft was designed primarily for long range reconnaissance and maritime patrol. It could cover considerable distances over open ocean and was employed for scouting, convoy shadowing and transport duties. Some variants were capable of carrying bombs or torpedoes, though it was not heavily armed by later war standards.
By the middle years of the war the H6K was increasingly vulnerable to modern Allied fighters. Its size and relatively modest defensive armament made it susceptible once intercepted. Many were withdrawn from front line reconnaissance and reassigned to secondary roles as newer types entered service.

This is poetry. This is storytelling. You can leave the sound off if you want but. Stop. Watch. You surely will not regret doing so.
