i'm still and forever on that Kryn Drow Are Bug Elves train, so i absolutely had to redraw that beautiful shot with my version of kryn armor. totally headcanon that Essek is wearing one of his mama's suits by the way, specially enchanted to facilitate being used by squishy wizards i assume

it was high time i painted another good old portrait of our favorite fancy guy Essek Thelyss!

i love that the first time we see Essek out of his disguise in c3 he is described as wearing flowing black robes under an intricate silver mantle. considering that he's no longer the shadowhand at the time, i assume the mantle is a decorative piece worn entirely for the sake of Essek's mirror, and perhaps to indulge a certain Caleb Widogast's authority kink
