"safety" can also present as "useful". You have some intrinsic value that cannot be taken from you (because of some sex/kink thing). The safety is from abandonment, because you're useful, despite everything. And "useful" is a bunch of kinks (none of which I'm comfortable mentioning here).

oh god, this is so obviously calvin's dad dialogue that now I'm worried that I plagiarized it without realizing it

just thinking about birdie and sil and how they are actually the perfect match for each other. silvio is the kim kitsuragi to birdie's harry du bois. birdie is volatile, unhinged, and needs a lot of steering, but sil is willing to be an absolute freak with him, despite being so buttoned up. like yeah, birdie flies off at the worst times, and he frankly says so many things out of pocket that probably the only reason he's alive is because he's married to the Fixer. but like. give sil a reason to completely let loose and be nuts with birdie, and he absolutely will do it.
