this dynamic they’ve been pushing between rick and morty over the last season or so has cememted in my mind that i really do think prime morty is rick’s original and only morty. obviously not original as in ‘from the same dimension’, but original as in the only morty he’s ever considered his own morty, and i think based on his memories (the baby is prime morty and i WILL die on this hill until proven otherwise) that he’s known this morty for years before crashing into prime beth’s garage. i’m almost positive morty doesn’t remember (mindblowers or just too young to) but i think rick definitely does and i think it feeds into how protective he can be, specifically of morty - i think the line ‘i do childproofing when you’re asleep’ is very telling.
