Jerry steered you toward the mirror, his nervous swallow loud in your ears.
He didn't respond to your question. Just stopped in front of the mirror and took a step back.
"Cover, uh, cover your eyes. Gimme a second."
While you squeezed your eyes shut, Jerry dug around in his back pocket and pulled out something that clinked together metallicly. Something somewhat large hit your chest.
You opened your eyes to catch Jerry with a very determined face, hands twitching as he tried to hook the necklace he put around your neck together.
He looked up for a second and caught your gaze. In the mirror, his usually squinty eyes opened in surprise to reveal his bright blue iris'. His eyebrows furrow in frustration.
"you were supposed to keep your eyes closed! You ruined it-"
"I didn't ruin it you were taking for freakin' ever-"
"whatever. You can look now."
The hook connected to a chain, which held a silver pendant that hung hung off it. It was a 3D wire outline of a D20. The dragon logo filled up one of the openings.
"I spent an hour in Hot Topic looking for it."
You tried to imagine Jerry rifling through anime girl shirts and Twilight lockets, and almost laughed.
There was a clasp on the side, so presumably, you could put a D20 in it; but it was empty. Did he want to put your own in it?
You went to undo the clasp but Jerry got there before you did. His fingers fumbled with popping open the clasp and the other hand pulled another object out of his pocket.
Jerry owned at least 17 D20s. He color coded them, treasured them like gold coins. But by far his two favorites were a metallic forest green one and a sparkly lime green one. The forest green in his pocket at all times and the sparkly lime on his dice bag. His two favorite things, along with his DM notes and fantasy elf girl magazines.
So of course, when he pulled out his sparkly lime D20 and dropped it into your necklace you wondered if Jerry got replaced with a bizzarro version from a fantasy world of his.
He shut the clasp and stepped back.
It was a bit gaudy for sure. Large and heavy and thumping against your chest when your body turned; when the light hit the die it glittered almost tackily. But... He had such a hopeful smile. Like he had given up a piece of gold instead of a die for a role-playing game. Maybe to him it was more like gold.
"Y-you like it?" He stuttered.
he wrapped his arms under your pits and lifted you up off the ground for a moment
"It's like having a bit of me wherever you go! Better than a locket with hair or fingernails!"
