out trans people like to try to convince closeted/repressed trans people who are in a position to transition, to transition as soon as possible, by saying "i badly regret not starting earlier". i don't think it's a very effective argument on its own. most closeted/repressed trans people have heard the same thing numerous times, they're deathly aware of it, they're already wracked with the regret of not transitioning today, every single day. simply telling them that the regret never leaves you doesn't have any convincing power. it might only make them feel even more hopeless or guilty. to draw from my honest personal experience, i would instead tell them:
"eventually—maybe slowly, and not always all the time, but surely—you'll notice that the regret of not starting earlier is drowned out by the joy and contentness of finally feeling truer to yourself. you won't have to live stuck permanently ruminating on past what-could-have-beens anymore, you'll be able to live in the present as yourself."
i dreamed last night that chapter 6 was coming out already. toby decided to advertise it exclusively through really zoomed in screenshots of kris in different places, with captions that were all like "you remember having fun here." "you remember being scared." "you remember worrying about your friends." anyways this culminated in toby posting an enteirly black image with a silly looking sprite of kris smiling captioned "you remebry oub." or something similar and the whole community lost it trying to decipher what it could mean
tomorrow is a new day and we’ll approach it together
notice my skin is clearing up -> think "I'm becoming normal" -> think "detroit become normal"
detroit become human has ruined me, it's fused itself to the word "become" in my mind. it's been eight years since it came out. eight years. this still happens every day. I never even played the game.

Me when the obsession begins to mirror reality in its themes and motifs
@kleefkruid your tag is golden.
caroline polachek - desire, i want to turn into you (2023)
Stress response so fucked I froze for 15 whole seconds when my manager asked me a question
the phrase "but i didn't mean to!" in the context of causing harm is kind of redundant to me, because almost nobody means to cause harm. most of us just want to do the right thing. and i don't mean that in a wishy-washy "oh, we're all good deep down" way, i mean that even people who regularly do the most heinous shit imaginable will have a way of justifying it to themselves. the world is not populated by hollywood sadists and psychopaths.
actually i have been thinking about this some more and i want to add on to it:
abuse in caregiving professions (like teaching or nursing) is not solely a result of power dynamics. it's also because people who go into those professions often have a idea of themselves as Good People, and are consequently incapable of recognising or acknowledging when they've hurt someone else. instead, they mentally put 'people who have inconvenienced me' into the Bad People box so they can freely abuse them while maintaining their moral high ground.
i read ross greene a lot when i was working with "difficult" or "behaviourally challenged" children. his refrain is "kids do well if they can" - meaning, in short, that most kids act out only when the demands of a situation exceed their capabilities. punishing them for this is not only cruel but also completely pointless, because they also don't want to be doing what they are doing.
a teacher who believes that there are two categories of people - Good People who Mean Well, and Bad People who Cause Problems on Purpose - is not going to see it that way. they're gonna put themselves in the first category, and the misbehaving kid in the second category. and once they have effectively depersoned the child and placed themselves on a pedestal, the world becomes simple again. because abuse is something that only Bad People do.

Piano Jax and what he represents
Dunno where else to talk about this cus nobody in my life is a TADC fan, but I have a thing I've been dying to talk about since I watched the finale.
And the specific thing I've seen almost nobody talk about is Piano Jax from the Jax headspace room and his significance as a representation of what's going on in Jax' mind, so I think everyone can agree by now that each of the Jax' in the room represent a facet of the masks he wears to conceal his feelings, with Maid Jax being his toxic irony poisoned persona, Scary Jax representing his nihilism and violent tendencies and Toon Jax obviously being his use of humour as a defence mechanism, his need to be 'the funny one'. Importantly though, all of these presentations vanish as soon as Pomni physically interacts with them, disappearing into smoke, which I personally view as a way of showing just how thin those personas really are, they're not a true reflection of Jax' interiority, but a fiction Jax uses to paper over his insecurity and repression, they all exist only to keep the parts of himself he doesn't want to face contained (which is why they react with so much hostility to the chained door (which I tend to think houses the version of Jax that *she* is most afraid of confronting) when it so much as makes a noise), the only one that remains for a second is Piano Jax, who's revealed to be chained to the Piano and hands Pomni the key to get to the real Jax with a tiny nod before disappearing himself.
My personal view of this scene is that Piano Jax is representative of Jax as a performer, specifically a performer of masculinity, when Pomni talks to the real Jax and remarks on how she didn't know he could play Piano, he says "I only know like two songs" so if playing Piano isn't even something he's particularly adept at, why is there a version of him playing in the room with the other personas? The answer is that Piano Jax' presence isn't about playing piano necessarily. Metaphorically speaking, Jax is an unskilled performer who doesn't particularly want to play, but he's been chained to his instrument and forced to repeat the same two songs he knows over and over again and berated and mocked when he so much as pauses to tell people he's there, and that's what masculinity is to Jax, it's a performance he's not allowed to finish, I imagine the reason he even knows piano is because it was something he was signed up for by his mother, it's something he learned out of necessity, out of expectation and a desire to please the people around him, which is why Piano Jax is projected the way he is. Jax is a prisoner of himself, of his need to be what everyone expects him to be in so many ways.
Hope that was a somewhat interesting stream of conscious anyways, I've been rattling this around in my head for weeks now and needed to get it out, I should also give credit that idea for all of this was sparked by a post mentioning something akin to this idea I saw just after I watched the movie in theater, can't for the life of me remember who or where, but I appreciate you lol.
