Heart made of glass, and mind made of stone

“I was at the shop today grabbing some crisps. When I came across this gentleman who looked like he needed a little pick me up.” Shawn wasn’t usually the type of person to go up to complete strangers like that, so this was already saying a lot for him. “So,I walk up to him and say: ‘Hedgehogs, eh? Why can’t they just share the hedge?’” and then he just sort of stared at me for a while and eventually walked away. I’m not sure if it’s because he didn’t think the joke was funny, or he didn’t understand a word I said. Either way, I’m a little offended. But at least I have these crisps,” he laughed, holding the bag out to the other. “want some?”

Dylan didn’t say much at first, thinking about what he said as she reached forward for one of the snacks out of the bag, placing it between her lips before crunching down on it. Her face was all scrunched up, but a relaxed wave crashing over it as she finally understood the joke, “Oh maybe because that’s a terrible joke.” She said when she finally swallowed her food, “God awful.”

Carma had only just come back after choosing to stay the summer at home so she could feel like she had an actual break from school, through protest as she didn’t see the point in coming on a Friday - the beginning of the weekend - instead of waiting until Sunday, and she was already getting bored. "Well, this place is just as dreary as it was when I left.” She muttered as she pushed herself through her passing peers.

Dylan’s eyes glanced up, focusing on the girl in front of her as she spoke, licking her lips before opening them to speak back, “I mean, yeah. But it’s just the beginning, everybody isn’t even back yet.”

“If you were a Transformer, you’d be Optimus fine.” Dylan shot back, as she continued to think of the worst ones she could come up with. 

“No, I swear I didn’t have to bribe her. She really must just be a fan of mine.” The brunette exclaimed as she ran her hands down the front of her fresh cheerleading uniform. Tessa had gone to the coach earlier in the day asking about joining the squad, having heard that there’d be tryouts only to be surprised with a fresh uniform and a spot for the new school year without even having to try out. “Okay, so how does it look?” She asked, twirling once and placing her hands on her hips.

“I wouldn’t be surprised, you are a prominent actress so it makes sense.” Dylan’s eyes looked over the brunette in front of her, “It looks really good, you fit right in. I’m already convinced you can do a double back hand spring.”

“I don’t about you but after the tenth lap around the football field, I could eat a whole chicken bucket right now. And maybe a milkshake? So are you in?”

Dylan’s lips pushed to the side momentarily before scrunching up her nose, “Not so sure about an entire bucket of chicken, but I could totally go for a milkshake.” 

She flinches when you touch her, It is a conditioned response From a life of battered nerves, And you can’t imagine how it is That she can still ask you To wrap your arms around her, When so many other arms Have been cages.
