if someone is beating you with a stick and you say "stop please" and people are like "please articulate the details exactly how you want society to function without that guy beating you with a stick" you are under no obligation to answer.
while the work of envisioning society without police is worthwhile, it is not necessary that each of us have it at the tip of our tongues, it is easy enough to say "not this."
because, after all, the goal is not to, as individuals or some vanguard, have the answers, the goal is to solve these problems and build new societies as a society, collectively, we offer processes, not answers.
the answers, we'll figure them out together, for now, abolish the police, we are not safer for having an armed gang that enacts racist violence with impunity.

Teach your children to respect animals and the world around them. Teach them that nature isnβt their toy and that their actions have consequences. Teach them compassion for other beings and creatures.
A lot of people on this post are focusing on pets, which is fair but not what I intended. Any decent pet owner would teach their children how to respect their pets, their dogs and cats and the like, but pretty much everyone neglects lessons about other animals and nature in general.
Teach your kids that:
nests are important and that they need to be left untouched and undisturbed
they should NEVER take an animal that they find outside and that if they find an injured animal, they should give it space and find an adult to help
wild animals in general need a wide berth and that ANY animal can be dangerous if it feels threatened
wild animals are not pets under any circumstances
itβs kinder and very easy to catch and release bugs outside instead of killing them
all bugs are important, even spiders and wasps and other scary ones
everything in nature has a job in general, and everything has a role to fill
something being scary or creepy does not mean it deserves to die
deer leave their fawns in places all the time and then come back later. theyβre never far from their babies. stop trying toΒ βsaveβ the fawns since all youβre doing is ensure their mom canβt find them or wonβt come back
Yes! Very important! Deer and birds were the ones I was thinking of in regards to not taking animals.
How to know if a fawn you see is abandoned/needs help:
itβs wandering around on its own in dangerous areas with no doe in sight
itβs visibly injured or sick
itβs curled up like usual but thereβs a dead doe somewhere in the area
and/or itβs curled up like usual but, after a distant observation period, no doe returns to the area to take care of it or check on it
Even if it fits one of those categories, you should always call a local wildlife rescue or similar organization, explain the situation, and follow whatever they tell you to do. NEVER touch or just take a fawn you find because that is pretty much an absolute guarantee that it will die. Fawns struggle a lot in captivity and many of them die from malnutrition or canβt be released because theyβve become tamed, so taking in a fawn for rehabilitation is ALWAYS a last resort.

With Tumblr starting to roll out age verification, it feels like a good time to bring this up.
I went to my app store and turned off automatic updates back when the staff tried to roll out their reblogs bullshit last month or whenever that was. The age verification is only in the UK and Brazil for now, but it'll probably spread.
Go to the app store and turn off automatic updates. Do it now. I will probably never update my app again. The people making these decisions can't be trusted and when the "age verification" database inevitably gets hacked, they will have some limp excuse and keep on doing it.
iβm sure you guys have heard about kansas invalidating trans ids- just so you know itβs not all hopeless
hi did you know that trans christians spend their entire lives in faiths that try and convince them that on a cosmical level they should hate themselves and for them this would be emotionally fufilling? hi did you know that kansas is over 70% christian? hi did you know that just because you think atheism is the correct and the only thing that deserves respect that doesnβt mean that this isnβt incredibly impactful and meaningful for many people?
reblogging this again to bring up that when my grandma said she didnβt understand trans people, and why would they betray the body God gave them, it would have been 0 help to explain to her all the biological and cultural and societal components to the existence of the concept of gender and trans people. You know what did make her pause and reconsider her stance? βDid you ever think that maybe God made trans people on purpose?β And we got to have a conversation about all the interesting things God has made so why wouldnβt God make trans people? And she came out of the conversation with more grace and understanding.

Frankly, I don't buy the theory that the repeated sweeping deletions of trans women's blogs have principally been the product of bad-faith mass reporting campaigns abusing automated moderation. I've been falsely mass-reported before, on multiple occasions, and nothing's ever come of it. Someone is pulling that trigger.
irritating as fuck when people get mad at Black people existing in premodern historical fiction/fantasy media. like first of all, you're racist. and second of all, you are acting as though Black people didn't exist in premodern Europe which is simply false. especially when we're talking about the Mediterranean, like what the fuck do you people think is along the southern half of the Mediterranean Ocean?? everyone's on boats, there are GOING to be interactions with Black people in Northern Africa, and there are GOING to be Black people in Mediterranean Europe. stop being stupid. your imagined homogeneous white European past is not historical reality, get over it you massive losers
there's an old anne rice interview circulating on twitter rn that i remember reading ages ago where she makes a pretty salient point about how submissive men who have bdsm fantasies etc will go to a sex worker and basically order the ala carte version of their fantasy to be performed in real life but women don't really have that same option and certainly not at the same point of availability so they read her horny books instead. and honestly that argument has been in the back of my mind every time people get on their high horses about the popularity of booktok romantasy novels or heated rivalry or whatever the "women are horny and we're upset about that" cultural property du jour is ever since. women, especially straight women, have so few outlets for their sexual desires, especially if they have a partner who doesn't share them, and i will never understand why "someone ELSE'S private sexual fantasy makes me uncomfortable and therefore they should not be allowed to engage with it, even if i am in no way being affected by it or even aware of it at all" is such a popular party line among allegedly progressive young people.
this is the second case ive seen of a black child going missing and then found lynched, what the fuck is going on

a good thread
Like. Look. Listen. I have taught introductory quantum physics at a university level, and I need you all to incorporate this into your trans advocacy: There are situations where you need to make a decision to prioritize being comprehensible to your target audience above being The Most Unassailably Correct.

Just watched Adam Conover (of Adam Ruins Everything) make such a solid point that I think we should spread far and wide. Yes, having AI write your emails is lazy, sure, but people love being lazy. We need to really emphasize that sending AI emails (or using AI responses on social media, or publishing AI flyers, or or or) is rude.
It's rude. You're making someone take their time to read something you couldn't bother to write. You're telling them they were so unimportant you couldn't be bothered to actually take the time to say something yourself. And frankly, you're lying about it while you're at it.
It's rude.

One like nitpick thing that drives me crazy is when people call Blue Whales the largest whales or the largest living mammals or some shit like that
Because yes that is true. But when you frame it like that you are completely disregarding the absolutely batshit reality that Blue Whales are the largest animals that have ever existed on earth through the entire history of the planet and they are alive right now today
people need to talk about socially acceptable abuse more. it's literally why we're a system. the spanking that people refuse to believe is physical abuse when there are multiple studies showing it affects kids just as much as any other type of physical abuse. the way a parent might talk down to their kid their entire life and make them feel like they cant make any choices themself or be independent that they only notice when someone else points out how their parent(s) talk too and about them. the parentification of the oldest kid(s) when they have a single parent. the unnoticeable praise towards the "easy" child that all the other children pick up on. the neglect the "easy" child has to go through. a kid being punished for going to their parent(s) when they mess up and need help. not being taught how to clean or cook or do laundry or even how to wash certain parts. it all destroys a kid and it was all socially acceptable in my family and in the communities i grew up in.
