So after 18 foster cats and kittens, I finally foster failed. Meet Nutmeg 🧡
I just saw Wicked for good, and I have thoughts.
It shouldn’t have been 2 movies. Act 2 is 45 minutes long and they stretched that shit out to be over 2 hours long.
As with the first film, the visual storytelling was amazing and the technical elements were incredible (set, costumes, etc.). They built these movies to make a theme park and you cannot convince me otherwise.
All the added stuff felt like filler and, honestly, Elphaba lecturing the animals about leaving made me really mad. Wicked is an allegory about Nazi Germany and that scene felt really icky.
As long as your mine is not a PG song and it just felt wrong the whole time. That song is sexy and it should have been treated with the respect it deserved. They knew going in that it was a major moment in act 2 and it felt like they just kind of treated it like something that they had to deal with, since they decided to make the movies PG. I feel that had they just made the PG-13 movie it ought to have been, it would have worked much better.
All and all it wasn’t as good as the first movie and neither are as good as the stage show. They split it so they could make more money and in doing so, they made 2 lower quality movies. I honestly think had they just made 1 movie, it would have won many more awards.
lmfao the un remains absolutely UNserious
The amount of story posts I’m seeing on instagram about this is absurd. Literally two seconds of critical thinking would tell you, “this seems really specific and unprovable, let’s look into this first”. But no… they just post blatant propaganda and scream genocide. It’s infuriating. Not to mention that the aid that enters Gaza doesn’t even go to the civilians, it’s in large part stolen by Hamas and sold for profit.
I see highly educated people falling for this, some of them are even Jewish (a whole other conversation tbh).
It’s so sad because the civilians of Gaza are suffering. There are issues, but it isn’t “genocide” and it isn’t “14000 babies will die within 2 days unless the EVIL ZIONIST COUNTRY Israel lets the aid trucks in”. It’s so blatantly ridiculous. It undermines the legitimate issues and the claim has already been retracted.
It’s not worth my time or energy to try to explain to these people why the thing they are posting is not only not true, but it’s actively propaganda which very clearly is thinly veiled blood libel.

I LOVE that whenever I post something about being Jewish I suddenly get spammed with fundraiser anonymous messages from people claiming to be in Gaza. Do they not recognize that I’m not their target audience? Objectively bad coding on the bots if that’s who they are pointed to…
I got a Magen David necklace several months ago but I hadn’t actually worn it. When I returned to campus a few weeks ago (for my senior spring), I started wearing it — not to make a statement, but because the necklace I had been wearing was never centered and it annoyed me. I was hesitant to wear it — it’s a weird experience being a Jew in college in the US right now — but that first day something clicked. It felt comforting. It felt right.
I’m not religious. I used to say that I was Jew-ish. I’ve been an atheist for most of my life but I participate in the cultural activities and traditions: I went to Hebrew school, I had a bat mitzvah, I went to Jewish sleep away camp, I go to temple on the high holidays. If one day I have children, I will raise them Jewish. It’s a major part of who I am, I would never want to hide or deny it.
I’m so glad that I started wearing it. I honestly don’t think most people even notice it — it’s small and simple — and that’s fine. It’s not for them, it’s for me.
The Free Palestine movement's insistence on tokenising Israelis and Palestinians as eternal enemies instead of two peoples who both deserve peace, safety, and security in the land they share, is why I can't ever take it seriously as a human rights or social justice movement.
Hamas: [repeatedly violates terms of the ceasefire by withholding civilian hostages (which they shouldn’t even have & are required by international law to surrender unconditionally) & withholding the names of hostages to be released]
International Community: [crickets]
Hamas: [violates terms of the ceasefire by parading the hostages (also in breach of international law)]
International Community: [crickets]
Hamas: [violates terms of the ceasefire agreement with multiple terrorist attacks during the ceasefire]
International Community: [crickets]
Israel, who has no obligation to supply Gaza: “okay, if you aren’t going to abide by the terms of the ceasefire, then we’re not obligated to keep sending you supplies as part of the ceasefire agreement”
International Community: “ISRAEL IS INTENTIONALLY STARVING GAZA! IT’S GENOCIDE!”
Hamas: [keeps violating the ceasefire by withholding hostages]
Hamas: [keeps violating the ceasefire with terrorist attacks]
Hamas: [flatly refuses to move on to the next stage of the ceasefire agreement, ending the ceasefire]
International Community: [crickets] [crickets] [crickets]
Israel: [resumes fighting]
International Community: “ISRAEL BROKE THE CEASEFIRE! IT’S MORE GENOCIDE!”
I’m not happy about the resumed fighting. I’m not happy that more civilians are going to get hurt. I’m not happy that the hostages are going to be put through even more.
But at the same time, what else could Israel do? Hamas refused to extend phase 1 of the ceasefire and refused to move onto the next phase. Israel cannot just wait around and hope they change their minds and decide to actually comply with the agreement.
It’s awful, no one wants this (at least no one I know). I don’t know if I even believe that Bibi is doing this for personal gain, maybe he is, but there’s only so long you can justify waiting for an enemy to decide to cooperate and follow through with their end of the deal. I honestly don’t know what to think or what the “right” choice would be. This whole situation is a nightmare.
I hate the future pain and suffering this will cause, and has already resulted in. It’s not a move I wanted the country to make. I want the hostages home, I want the war to be over. I hate that civilians are going to die but it’s not Israel’s fault, it’s Hamas’s. We’ve been through this before, they use their people as human shields.
Someone who I go to school with just posted on their story that the guy who shot the CEO “is a hero” and that they should “release him now”.
I’m sorry… you want this guy who MURDERED SOMEONE to be released?!?!? Look at these photos, he looks deranged!!!!
Luigi Mangione yelled to the press about "an insult to the intelligence of the American people" as he was physically dragged into a Pennsylv
Vigilante/extrajudicial justice in the form of killing someone is not going to fix the healthcare system in the US. Murder is not the solution to the problem and the murderer is certainly not a HERO!
This person has been posting some pretty shit takes about Israel/Palestine for a while, but I’ve been ignoring it in an attempt to remain civil and under the assumption that they were just misinformed but well intentioned. After seeing this on their story I immediately unfollowed them. I thought about saying something but it’s not worth my time.

This video took me out. It’s incredible
umm i need reassurance that my presence is wanted but i can’t ask for reassurance because that’s really Embarrassing and it wouldn’t feel genuine if i asked for it
I found this from like 4 years ago and boy oh boy
I have had to explain what a pogrom is and also that one happened last week (not like the person didn’t agree that it was a program, but they had no fucking idea it even happened) to too many people. Like… did you never take world history? Maybe my education was more comprehensive but these are educated people.
Let's just put aside the fact that this was a premeditated, coordinated attack for a few seconds and focus on the absolutely insane talking points used to justify the pogrom in Amsterdam:
- Some Israeli fans tore down a Palestinian flag
- Some Israeli fans yelled anti Arab slurs
- Some Israeli fans fought with a taxi driver
This in their minds justifies chasing down any Israeli they see, throw them onto train tracks and into canals in freezing temperatures, demand to see passports, steal and take photos of said passports, viciously beat them even as the victims plead for mercy, try to kidnap them by shoving them into their cars, coordinate with the violent mob by using your taxi to transport Israelis and hand them over to their attackers, stab and try to murder them.
I would ask if they can see just from reading the above how batshit insane with hatred they are, but I know it's pointless. They got a taste of abusing and killing jews being normal again and they've been drunk on it ever since. Just like they have over and over and over again over the course of history. This is what they've always done. In every generation.

Judaism and Life
I’m thinking about one of the rallying cries of the Jewish people. Our slogan, if you will. We speak it, we shout it, we sing it: עם ישראל חי. Am Yisrael chai. The people of Israel live.
It says a lot, I think, that this of all phrases is among our defining anthems. Out of all the possibilities, this is our motto, our catchphrase, our affirmation: a simple, defiant declaration of our own continued existence against the odds.
I’m also thinking of our traditional exclamation of celebration. The classic, quintessential, go-to Jewish toast, so characteristic as to have reached popular culture through a Broadway musical: לחיים. L’chaim. To life.
One of our primary “good luck” symbols, found on medallions and amulets: the single word, חי. Chai. Life. Our “lucky number” is 18, the number with the gematria value of life. We give momentary gifts and make donations in multiples of 18: giving chai, giving life.
It’s pretty straightforward, really. We just want to live. As people, as Jews, as a community.
I’m thinking about how many ways our culture and traditions repeatedly highlight the centrality of life — both the preservation of individual lives, and the continuation of our collective life. Thinking how terrifyingly often both categories of life fall under threat. And how we still keep going.
מיר וועלן זיי איבערלעבן. Mir veln zey iberlebn. We will outlive them, sung in a field with soldiers and no escape, worst come to worst but singing out defiance anyway.
… and they didn’t survive, those singers, physically they did not outlive their attackers, and too many others didn’t either. But they were still right: we, we as a collective, we did outlive. Barely, and with indescribable and lasting loss… but we did. We’re still here. Existent. Alive. Affirming that and hanging on for dear life, as individual people and as a people.
Am Yisrael chai. Mir veln zey iberlebn. L’chaim.
not to alarm anyone but is anybody else worried about how everybody is fucking stupid
