Aesthetics:  the blistering heat of sitting too close to a dorm fire on a frigid winter night, the brush of whiskers against your heels in the dark, the weight of a secret kept in the pit of your stomach. the long shadow cast by the sun, as dark and deep as the night in its absence.

Post-Hogwarts Bio:

Peter’s always placed himself firmly and intentionally in the shadows of his closest friends. It was a decision he made intentionally in his very first year: to position himself at the side of someone brighter and better than he, and to stay there, outshone and easy to miss, until graduation. It worked rather splendidly, all things considered, and he got a good handful of lifelong mates out of it to boot.

Out of Hogwarts, though, he couldn’t stay tucked in the shadow of James Potter. Years of friendship had honed his confidence and skill, but he was still the least of the Marauders, not called to greater or more dangerous lines of work. For all Peter was a Gryffindor, his courage was never in saving others or grand adventures … at least, not alone. So he found himself a quiet job, in a secondhand shop run by a scowling old witch who pays him in both galleons and gossip, and he keeps his head down and his ears open. Peter’s comfortable fading into the background, and with the whispers of trouble he’s hearing …

Self-preservation has always been his most upheld tenet, and he doesn’t like the idea of what’s coming. His mates are all for the good fight, though, and so Peter, never fully willing to step out of the long shadows they cast, tags along. He won’t let it kill him, so what’s the harm in being on the winning side?

Aesthetics:  the dull echo of waves on a stone-cold shore, the biting chill of the air as it sticks to the back of your throat, the comforts of a mask well-contructed. silk sheets cover every mirror and books cover every table, and still the answers elude you, and still you are left with only yourself to answer to.

Post-Hogwarts Bio:

For years now, it has been pride, and nothing but pride, that has kept Regulus unmarked and on the outer fringes of the Death Eater’s ranks. To Regulus, it is a disgrace for a Black to kneel before any, to be inferior to any living wizard. But Voldemort’s knowledge had been the most tempting bait in the trap, and years of solitude and perceived inferiority drove Regulus into the arms of the Death Eaters all the same. Every proper pureblood male heir has taken the mark, and he needed to prove himself as such, in the looming shadow of his brother.

He is still a Death Eater, of course - he’d be a dead man to defect. But it is not what he wanted, nor imagined. There are no intellectual debates or pursuits for the betterment of pure wizard culture - there is only one man holding the power in the Dark Lord’s future wizarding Britain. No self-respecting Black should ever so easily concede to another wizard, and as seemingly the only self-respecting Black who remains, Regulus is beginning to get it in his head that someone should really hold the Dark Lord under more scrutiny. He is beginning to wonder at who the man was before he called himself Lord Voldemort. He is beginning to wonder more at those boasts of immortality, of strength unrivaled … and he thinks, in his most private thoughts, that the Dark Lord outpaces him only in arrogance, not in intelligence. For Regulus is arrogant, indeed, and he knows he’d have been a Ravenclaw if not for his insatiable hunger to use that knowledge, to do something with it - to do something about it.

He graduates and throws himself into study, and collects those whispers and those doubts, and studies some more. He is not a favoured son, and not a favoured Death Eater. The most prestigious thing Lord Voldemort has ever done is borrow his house-elf. To go further along the path of immortality than anyone else …

Regulus Black will bide his time, and make his connections. He has decided, with all of the arrogance he knows may one day be his downfall, that he’s going to be the one to do something about it.

What is it that truly drives a person to madness?

Perhaps, it’s the loss of a leg, or a divorce from your wife who says you ‘always take work home with you, Alastor’, or perhaps it's the use of a magical eye that has too many foreign properties that give you violent headaches. For Alastor Moody, perhaps it was all of the above. 

He’d been young and eager once–so many kids joining the Order and the Auror Office reminded him, sickeningly, of his younger self–but eagerness had fallen away into monotonous resignation. But, somehow, he gets out of bed each morning. But, somehow, he continues his fight.

Working for the Auror Office as well as patrolling for the Order of the Phoenix is a tightrope; can’t give too much information to work because they’ll question sources. And sources, however accurate, are not always questioned in the ways of the law. Besides, there are few people that Alastor Moody trusts wholeheartedly–not even Albus Dumbledore. 

Alastor is hardened. And his vendetta is not for the betterment of the world, but it is personal. He is angry. As much as he hides behind his stoicism, he is no longer calm and mild-mannered. He can’t be, not in these uncertain times. Bouts of anger hit him and he attempts to drown them in drink. He wakes up with a knife on his bedside table and his wand always grasped firmly in his hand. 

Peace has no place in Alastor Moody’s mind. There is only anger and paranoia. There is only the slow descent into madness.

Aesthetics: The Gregarious–the familiarity of the first sip of coffee in the morning and the hum of caffeine in your veins; delicately manicured hands stained with ink; the cacophony of infamy and adoration.

Post-Hogwarts Bio: 

Ambition. It is a word laced with undertones of selfishness and a lack of morality. But, Rita Skeeter had always had to work for what she got, so a healthy dose of ambition was good… right? She had clawed–or scurried–her way to the top of the ladder and had done it well. 

Many people that Rita encountered in her life, particularly in her former House, wanted power or status, and she, quite honestly, couldn’t blame them. But, what Rita wanted more than anything was a voice. Perhaps some would have called her selfish, that she didn’t particularly want to lament the woes of house-elves, but instead, make sure everyone knew that Gilderoy Lockhart's Most Magical Smile was a rather realistic mirage, or that Rufus Scrimgeour seemed to be distracted at his post (most irresponsibly) that surely he'd been having marital issues at home. While she’d never been meek by anyone’s standards–at least not by the time she’d gotten to be in fourth year–and was confident in her abilities and knew her self-worth, she found that a more worthy way of revenge, a more entertaining and fun way to keep herself occupied was the spreading of secrets. She would never have gone so far as to call it gossip; gossip was lowbrow, simplistic, trivial, underwhelming, and altogether false. Rita dealt with nothing less than cold, hard facts (with a bit of embellishment and flair here and there). 

This rather unorthodox method of reporting–along with a long and arduous process of complicated Transfiguration–had allowed her to climb the ranks of The Daily Prophet. Some called her a liar, others a ‘wretched old hag’, while a good majority of her oh-so-loyal readers thought her to be the pinnacle of journalism. Her name often shone brightly on the black and white pages of The Prophet, always digging just a little deeper than most.

Rita Skeeter had a sharp mind and an even sharper Quick-Quotes Quill. Surely, she’d be a useful ally in such trying times, as she seemed to know a little bit about a lot of people. However, trustworthy had never been a word used to describe her and one ought to be careful, as getting close to her could open many closets and find long-dead skeletons.

Post-Hogwarts Bio: 

It could be said that, even before finishing her studies at Hogwarts, Hestia Jones already felt completely lost. The school had been her true home: the place where she built lifelong friendships and found refuge from an extremely troubled family.

After much reflection, she decided to pursue a career as a healer. With attacks becoming more frequent and war looming on the horizon, Hestia chose to turn her gift and passion for healing into a way to do good and help shape a better future.

She now lives alone in an apartment purchased by her mother—the same mother who had ignored her since the age of ten. Living alone, however, awakens old anxieties that have always haunted her: the fear of loneliness.

Hestia has never liked spending too much time by herself. The lack of daily interaction with friends, so present during her years at Hogwarts, often leaves her feeling anxious—and at times even depressed.
