And stranger still, in that that had never happened before. 

“Oh, err, thanks…” He’s visibly distraught by the sight of the flimsy notebook in someone else’s hands, and reaches out to take it. He’s familiar with relying on the kindness of others, too often a stranger in strange new lands, but relying on happenstance is something foreign. Perhaps something on purpose has happened here. 

“Don’t suppose you’d let me buy you a drink. In gratitude. You could say my whole life’s in this thing.” He puts the journal away, fingering his breast pocket to ensure there were no holes in his jacket. 

Something odd about this guy... but not sinister, exactly. He just couldn’t quite put his finger on it. Friendly enough, certainly. You’ve been playing the spy game too long, Dick. Sometimes a nice guy’s just a nice guy.

“No. We do not.” They didn’t believe in anything - not luck and not something akin to wrong place wrong time. It was all a matter of choices; sometimes they just lead to bad consequences. “You came here for a reason, didn’t you? What’s that reason?”

“That’s one freaky hobby then.” Despite his words it wasn’t an unappreciated hobby as Thad popped the lollipop into his mouth. “Still,” Thad opens the pint of ice cream, “If it gets me something I’m not going to ignore it.” ho was he to deny someone’s kindness especially if it meant food for himself.

“So what I’m getting here is that you some freaky good samaritan who doesn’t mind feeding a villain. Am I missing anything here?” Because Thad certainly felt he was.

His eyebrow raised and tongue clicked. Stubborn jackass. Could he say he was surprised? Not at all. It seemed to come par for the course in this field of his.

“All right then, I got ten minutes. What d’ya wanna talk about? How you’re lookin’ at a hefty felony charge? How you’re gonna have to answer a LOT more questions than what I’m askin’ if you make me take you in? How you’re gonna hate the hospital food more ‘n the Chinese place right next to the spot next to the guy I know? C’mon, you got a whole…” He waved a hand. “Whatever it is your doin’ in front of ya. I just need the briefcase. Just need what’s inside. You can even blame me.”

Wait a second, he may have just gotten incredibly lucky. This guy was a fed? Two birds with one stone, maybe. He was only ranked 37, no one would be surprised if something got away--but he wasn’t about to be gulled, either.

“Nothing to hold me back. No more strings.” Though, that was exactly what he had; the six pulling him. The six telling him what to do - he just never saw them. Not really at least. He just wished to take them out. Prove he was better than them and maybe get some peace in that head of his.

“No longer have to save those worthless fools who show up at the wrong place at the wrong time. No longer having to protect banks or certain individuals - used to not get paid. Now? I don’t need to worry about that; just walk in, get the money, and walk out. So much easier than having to live a life outside of this mask.”

“You do realize you don’t actually have to do any of those things. Just, you know, responsible and well-adjusted human beings sort of want to save people that need it...? If it’s gotten too much, you could try retirement, instead of villainy.”

Fighting the good fight? Where had this dude come from? Francis had to stop himself from rolling his eyes. Maybe he actually was a friend of Cap’s? “If you’re no one important, you should probably get the hell away from the fight involving mutated humans, supersoldiers, geniuses and other assortment of odd people,” the teen added as he let another arrow hit its target. “And I’m fighting because I’m quite god at it and have nothing better to do.” Francis had better morals than he usually let people know, but he was more morally grey than anything else.
