I have a pretty good idea who is behind the anons coughojcough, since this all seems to target people who have been critical of a certain reedus rimjob post that was made that started all this fuss. My advice, come to my inbox, you coward. Play the victim all you want but my inbox is EMPTY because certain people are too much of a pussy to say shit to the people who threaten your everlasting circle jerk of all things NR. Don’t front like you give a shit about Carol or MMB. It’s obvious you use the caryl ship and MMB’s new found star power to gain more addle brained minions.

Okay I could answer the handful of anons in my inbox asking about this, or I could reblog and add to a dozen different posts but to save repeating myself and your dash, I decided to save it all up for one post.

So let’s discuss Norman’s shipping answers and why they bother me - because yes they do. And no, that doesn’t mean I hate him, it means I am disappointed and wish he would do better.

Of course part of why his seemingly negative take on caryl bothers me is partly because I ship it, but why I ship it is so much tied into the representation angle. And that is the biggest part of what bothers me about the platonicising of Caryl.

This brother-sister remark conversation is not about Caryl’s odds of going canon.  It is about a middle-aged man physically cringing away from the thought of two middle-aged people in a romantic sexual relationship and negating an older woman’s sexuality.

It is about the gross ageist, sexist perpetuation of the idea that older women are not attractive, do not have sex, and are incapable of being desirable to desirable men.

1) Fear of their own waning reproductive appeal and ability, and how that pings their internalized hatred of their own selves as women, and

2) Fear of competition from older women.  As fucked up as it is, I truly believe there’s a strong element of this involved.  Because while younger women and their 500 horsepower ovaries might be attractive to one set of men, they are most certainly NOT appealing to a very large set of men who are absolutely not looking to have kids and start new families.  To these men, older women can be more appealing because chances are, our own needs and wants match theirs.  And our ability to “trick” them and get pregnant on the sly isn’t as strong or threatening (this is actually a thing expressed to me by more than a few men who have had this happen to them- “baby entrapment”).

At the end of the day,it’s all so ridiculous and awful.  But what’s most disappointing is how it’s being used by women against other women.
