He wanted to tell her; he really did. He just wasnât able to find the right words, time, and place. And to be honest, he also was a bit afraid of what Lily would think when she knew that he was an illegal Animagus. But he couldnât hold it anymore. They went on their first date in November, and it was June now. Soon, they would be graduating. Soon, they would head out to the real world and become soldiers in a war. He didnât think he would be able to tell her in any other place. He and the boys had first transformed here, in this forest, on the grounds of this school. And he didnât think he would be able to tell her anywhere else.

Day 13 of @jilytoberfest is brought to you by a weird outside POV! This is a loose story continuation of day 5. Prompt; Muggle Technology. Word count: 1113
Sander Cohen drove his way to the sleepy town of Godricâs Hollow on what seemed to be a normal day with a new student. While it had seemed odd to him that there was no phone number listed, but then again maybe they moved recently. BT was notoriously slow with their connections, especially all the way out here.
When he pulled up to the house, a young lad stood waiting. Nothing he did not expect. However, he had to admit that when he asked to move around the corner because he wanted to surprise his wife, took him by surprise. The lad looked maybe nineteen at best and seemed a little young.
Maybe he was the religious sort, Sander decided. A theory that was almost immediately dashed when he got out to greet the young man. âHi, oh thank fuck you moved when you did. James Potter, pleasure to make your acquaintance. Sander was it not? See, I am trying to learn how to drive and surprise the wife with a road trip, you know. It would have spoiled it if sheâd seen you,â James rambled and shook his hand rather frantically throughout this entire explanation.
âJames, can I call you James?â
-â Mister Potter is my father, Hades rest his soul,â he replied with a solemn look on his face like he had not just said something slightly off colour.
Sander decided to shake it off, after all, he did strike him as the eccentric type with his wild hair and floral tunic. Deciding to get started, they walked a circle around the car while he explained various things like the fuel cap and even popped open the hood to get a look at the engine.
He explained to James how to work the chair after heâd folded his legs into his compact car, then the mirrors and the handles. All routine stuff, all things heâd likely encountered before in his parentâs car. Only James looked fascinated. Like he was seeing all of this for the first time.
âItâs so different from a motorcycle,â James said after the explanation and flicked on the windscreen wipers with a chuckle. He tried the lights a few times before finally turning back to him. âSo, when are we flying this thing?â
Sander looked at his new student for a moment and contemplated if maybe he was hearing things wrong. Flying? He almost asked aloud but something in his gut told him that this would lead to another ramble like there had been before. âYou are going to drive a little now and heading to somewhere safe you can practice getting a feel for the car.â
His simple explanation was met with eager nods and a bright, boyish grin that made him wonder how someone like this managed to get a wife but he himself had yet to be so lucky. Sander was quite happy that most students were very focused on their first lesson and he did not need to listen to much newly-wed chatter during his lesson.
How wrong he was. It started as they drove past the bakery and Jamesâ head craned to the display. âOh, they have the lemon tarts again! You know, my wife loves those,â he commented and nearly drove into a curb. Sander had to grab the wheel to correct him.
The next near accident came at the stop light when James did not seem to have the intention to stop when it turned red well before they reached it. James was far too busy telling him how his beautiful wife, his words, would love seeing some more of the country.
âIâm sure sheâs seen plenty on the train to school, but it is different. I am sure we can find somewhere lovely to go. Do you know somewhere nice to drive?â James only blinked at him confused, whole head turning his way to look up at him, eyes full of confusion. âWhy did we stop?â
Sander could not help but blink at the man sitting in the driverâs seat and wonder if maybe he shouldnât be. âThe light was red,â he answered watching in horror as his studentâs face turned inquisitive.
âBut there was no one there,â James asked and this put him in such a state that he produced a packet of Marlboros that he usually only smoked during his breaks. The lord knew he needed it.
Rolling down his window he placed kept the fag between his lips and produced his lighter. âDo you mind?â he asked rhetorically and waited five seconds, he counted them, to be polite before lighting up.
âYou know, my wife used to smoke those too. Said it was the hardest thing she ever had to quit,â James commented and he took a long drag to not have to answer. Just humming and nodding. âI know it is supposed to be unhealthy, but you should have seen her while smoking.â
Before he knew it Sander had the second fag ready when the first one was about to burn up. He felt a lot safer once they turned into a large, empty parking lot. Even if they hit the curb on the way in. They went through some basic things, breaking, shifts, turns and signals. James seemed to be receptive to these things.
He even asked questions and though some of the answers Sander gave sprouted another comment about âhis wifeâ it was alright. Heâd resigned himself to his fate. This far too chatty bloke loved his wife and he supposed he should be happy for him.
Even if he loathed every word that came out of his mouth.
The road back to the address was better, he supposed. No run stop lights and no curbs. The parking was still abysmal, but the fatigue of learning something new had, mercifully, dried the well of stories.
He peered down his empty packet of fags once they were out of the car, sucking his teeth annoyed at the fact that he needed to buy a new pack when James appeared in front of him, once again offering his hand. âThank you for today, it was an honour to learn from you.â
A little startled Sander took his hand and gave it a firm shake. âUhm, fair enough. You⌠did good?â he answered awkwardly as he sunk his hands into his pockets. âTell your wife I said hi.â
James grinned at him boyishly before nodding. âWill do! Iâll ring for another lesson. Take care!â With that, he jogged back around the corner leaving Sander to press his forehead to the cold roof of the car. Deciding to buy two packs in preparation for that next lesson.
Loved it! I have relatives whose last name is Cohen so seeing a familiar last name was nice. Loved seeing James so distracted making comments about his beautiful wife!
A short drabble for @jilytoberfest day 7: 'No grave will hold my body down, I'll crawl home to her.'
It's my first time writing one of these! Please enjoy the next 500 nonsensical words on wartime jily.
When his mouth slants over hers â greedy, demanding, mean â he draws blood.
Years ago, when he kissed her for the first time, when they were seventeen and foolish and in love, her lips tasted of firewhiskey, cigarette smoke and strawberry lip balm. Two years have passed since and they are still foolish, still in love, but now, now, he can feel the sting of salt and metal under her tongue. Blood is everywhere: crimson stains her teeth, her clothes, her hands â Turns out that when you are nineteen and a soldier(a fighter, a warrior, a killer) blood is there even when it isnât.Â
In War, blood means death, but it also means life. Only living creatures bleed.Â
1977. A boy and a girl â kids, teenagers, students. His hand slides into hers, sweaty, trembling, and he holds on tight, he grips her like he might fall, stumble, and he was falling, in more sense than one. She squeezes his hand back. A silent promise: she wonât let him. She will fall with him. And they smile at each other because they know: the world is theirs to take, to make, and it will bend at the will of their love.Â
1979. The world is crueller than they thought it could be. It is a dark place. War is a nasty thing, and it grows around them but it also grows inside of them â it burns, it scratches, it bites â scarring them inside out. The world is dark but there is also darkness inside. It has settled, found a home somewhere between their ribcages.Â
When she kisses him, her hands move from the smooth planes of his chest, over his clavicle and settle below his jaw; right next to his Adam's apple, in that tender, soft hollow spot where his veins pulsate. Two fingers, pressure. She lets his body speak to him: I am alive, I am alive still, I am breathing. I am here and I am yours.Â
James draws blood, Lily finds his veins. In times like these, when words are not enough, it is only the warmth of each otherâs bodies that steadies their beating hearts. It is the fact that they can feel each other, skin on skin, ruthless and hungry and furious. It is the fact that they can meet here. Together. In this bloody and angry kiss.Â
She breathes his name and it comes out pleading, begging. James. A prayer: please, God, let me find you here tomorrow, let us continue kissing until there is no blood left. And James is no God and he is no priest, but he acts upon her wishes. He might as well be an empty vessel where she can pour her prayers and her sins. Â
And he knows. He knows she might have to stand on his grave, someday. That he might have to stand in hers. She knows it, too. They both understand that the world does not bend at their will, that war is a merciless creature, and that love is not always enough.Â
Death looms over them. Doom is impending. And so, a futile promise, a flimsy vow to hold onto: No grave will hold him down. He kisses her, tastes her blood and hopes she understands. Hopes she finds the words in the curve of his lips.Â
He will crawl. He will find his way back to her.Â
That is war and it is love. James could no longer tell them apart.

If you get this, answer w/ three random facts about yourself and send it to the last seven blogs in your notifs. anon or not, doesnât matter, letâs get to know the person behind the blog!
Oh hey Nena! You want to know three random things about myself eh? Is there an ulterior motive? Are you going to impersonate me on your next anon mischief??? đ
Okay, Iâm going to trust you this time. Three random facts about me:
1. I love technology a lot. So much in fact that Iâm the official technician of my family. I think that may be one of the reasons my brother is useless with tech. I am the oldest of my family, so I had to learn by myself, but when he tried to he just asked for my help because it was easier and he never learned I think. He needs my help for the simplest things, like connecting to a WiFi network đŤ
2. I started reading fanfiction for the first time about a year and 2 months ago, and it wasnât even HP. The first fic Iâve ever read in fact was a Mario bros fanfic and it wasnât even that good đ¤Śââď¸. Luckily I then discovered the HP fandom a few days later and I havenât looked back to my first few days of fanfic reading.
3. I may or may not be a bit socially awkward IRL. I donât want to be, but when I go out it is very difficult for me to start a conversation with strangers even if I wanted to unless they start the conversation first, and if Iâm talking to someone very often I donât know how to reply or how to continue a conversation. Maybe thatâs why I donât engage in the conversation in the discord often, because I donât know what to say. But still, it is much easier to talk to someone online than in person for me. I only feel comfortable during a in person conversation when it is with my friends or family. Iâm trying to improve my confidence with other people, but it is a slow process.
Okay those where three random facts about myself. Just donât use them for your mischief nena, Iâm watching you đ
I didnât make that blog, why would I? My tumblr mischief was a one time thing only. Besides, why would I send dobby pictures? Itâs not like Iâm obsessed with house elves or something.
New idea: instead of writing the fic, you come over to my house and I tell you the entire plot while I pace my tiny kitchen. Thereâs a cup of tea, warm in your hands. The words donât stop and the affection never leaves your expression.
I think itâs really lovely that they chose to love.
I like reading about them because it helps me enjoy life. Like hereâs this day, itâs cold and your dadâs shouting through the walls, your sister is crying in the bathroom, your mum is dead tired and you feel guilty about buying lunch instead of packing something to eat.
Then you lay in bed with the electric blanket on and boom! Jily bantering between arguments over the state of the world, but itâs okay because you know that in every rendition of the story they love each other. Like thatâs so lovely.
I grew up with parents that should have gotten divorced. But here are these two characters that despite all the shit, grew to embody the word romance.
Jily is a warm hug after walking to the bus stop on foggy mornings.

I wish you would write a fic where Jily joins the Jily Microfic Discord!
James sat hunched over the piece of muggle technology that Harry had gifted them for the holidays. He was squinting at the electronic letter from an unknown address. âLils, darling? Do you know what a âdiscordâ is?â he shouted over his shoulder to his wife just outside the open doors, tending to her herb garden.Â
Her face appeared, dark streaks littering her features and another one being smeared across her forehead as she swiped her hair away from it. âDiscord?â she repeated, confusion evident in her voice.Â
âSomeone invited us to join one. It has a picture of a friendlyâŚâ His sentence trailed off as he made a motion, thumbs gyrating and fingers wriggling. âFrom one of those home arcade machines.â
Emerald eyes narrowed for a moment, another smudge of dirt adoring her jaw as Lily deciphered what he meant. âJoystick?â she questioned, uncertain of her own words. A smile crept onto his face, but before he could say anything even remotely lewd his wife cut him off. âDonât you dare, Potter! We are solving this discord mystery before you get any funny ideas!âÂ
James huffed, blowing an errant lock of hair from his forehead and adjusting his glasses. âShould we call one of the kids? Or would take make us terribly clichĂŠ grandparents?â he prompted, nodding to himself as he leaned back over the box and traced his finger along the square to move his pointer.Â
âWhat are you doing?â Lily got up, stretching her back as she leaned on the windowsill, watching him full of curiosity.Â
His eyes flicked to her, a grin stretching over his features. âI am accepting the invite, of course. It would be terribly rude. I can always click it away if it is one of those fish letters Henry talked about.â Aware that their oldest grandson would be very disappointed in them if theyâd fallen for something he had warned them about time and time again.Â
âOh, there are rules!â James muttered to himself, skimming over them as he already motioned to accept them, only to be stopped by his wife.Â
âDid you read them?âÂ
âYes.âÂ
âReally?âÂ
He paused and let his shoulders sag as he admitted. âMore skimmed them, but I am sure they are fine!â Ignoring the look of disapproval that blew in from the window, he pressed the green square and watched a whole new list of names appear on the side of his little box.Â
âThey are asking for our house! There are so many Gryffindors here!â He exclaimed, delighted. âMaybe this is for alum, and we can finally see what people are up to without having to rely on the papers,â he said with a grin and went through, clicking the pictures he thought applied to them.Â
Pausing for a moment, pushing his glasses back up his nose as he curiously read the next item on the reading list that had appeared. Falling silent, eyebrows furrowing as he slowly started to click through the list.Â
âI donât think I am supposed to be here,â he mused, looking up at Lily for a moment before letting his eyes fall back on the words on the box.Â
âWhat makes you say that, dear?â Lily asked, leaving her gloves on the sill as she made her way inside, casting a quick scourgify before sitting down next to him, her reading spectacles being slid out of her hair in an effort to read with him.Â
âThese are allâŚâÂ
â-Stories, yes.âÂ
âAbout us?âÂ
James nodded slowly, not sure if he should feel worried about this. âUs, the lads, Harry, your friends. Just endless stories,â he replied, his voice growing faint with confusion.Â
âI think you might be right, this is not for us,â Lily agreed, though her eyes were still moving over the words. Her finger reached out to one of the items on the list. âCan you click that?âÂ
At her request, James clicked the label that said art when Lily pointed it out and clicked one of the grey squares. Something he should not have done. Jolting, he reached out and smacked the lid back on the box, almost trapping his wifeâs fingers between.Â
âI think that was enough of that!â He practically squeaked, taking off his glasses and frantically polishing them on his pocket-handkerchief. âMaybe not ask the grandkids to look at it, after all.âÂ
Rubbing her knuckle where the lid had caught her, Lily gave him a disappointed look and levelled him with a look. âI didnât see, so I canât tell,â she admonished, reaching out to reopen the box stubbornly ignoring his warning hand on the lid.Â
âJames, let me see!â She demanded, and all he could do was shake his head at her. âFine, then you describe it to me.â Her arms crossed over her chest while she raised an expectant eyebrow at him.Â
James licked his lips, wondering how on earth he was going to describe the image that was burned into his eyelids now. Taking a moment, then another, before a sly smile slipped across his features. âHow about I show you instead?âÂ
Lol this is amazing! đ James curiously clicking on the art channel and immediately closing the laptop đ I would love to see more of James and lilyâs adventures on that muggle box! (If you write it of course)

A @jilymicrofics for the prompt Retire, Jan 14th
Word count: 838
It was strange, after more than half a century, to be cleaning up her office for the final time. To carefully wrap her trusty tea set in yesterdayâs Prophet, sift through the boxes of paperwork in search of what to archive, what to keep and what to finally bin.Â
As she sorted through an assortment of old assignments and Christmas cards from a bygone age, Minerva finds herself reminiscing. Once familiar faces and voices curled from the depths of her mind, a fond smile on her face.Â
The corners of her lips trembled like her aged hands when her fingers brushed along a script that gave her pause. Because even after all these years, all these hundreds of students, she could still tell whose penmanship this was.Â
The large letters crammed onto the parchment, like he knew he was going to run out of space for his sweeping tâs and large loops. The words slanting upwards as if wanting to escape from the paper.Â
She did not doubt that, at the time, that was precisely what heâd had on his mind, while stuck doing a detention assignment for her. It was supposed to be an essay, but in true James Potter fashion, heâd ignored the explicit instruction and instead composed a letter.Â
Dearest Minerva,Â
As we sit across from each other in your office, a pot of lapsang souchong between us, I am aware you are pretending to be cross with me. For the sake of posterity, I will pretend with you. Though we both know that they deserved every miserable second.Â
In the future, however, I will strive for a more creative solution. Even if I think turning their belts into snakes was quite a nifty piece of transfiguration. I will let you be the judge of that. Being the expert and all that.Â
Speaking of the future, I am supposed to write an essay about where I see myself next year. Which I could have answered effortlessly a fortnight ago. But things changed. Every paper is full of it now. And I refuse to sit idle just because I happened to have been born into a family that fits into their narrow view of our world.Â
One year from now, I will be as restless as ever. Using the privilege that comes with my name to help those who cannot help themselves. However, unlike before, I will not humour myself with the delusion that this can be achieved by mere words.Â
I will gladly put my wand with my conviction and face whatever is in store beyond the safety of these walls. Together with my friends, we will make a difference.Â
My friends and I are talking about getting a place together, somewhere nice and lively. We were hoping to travel, see some of the world. Those plans are on hold, at least for now. Though none of us will say it aloud, we hope that the four of us will get to.
So, we spend evenings talking about this trip, imagining places to go and things to do in the hopes that the four of us will get to go.
Hopefully, I will be dating Lily Evans. (Please donât tell her I said that.) I think she is finally coming round to me. She no longer glares in my direction, though I can still feel her eyes on me sometimes.
Maybe I am crazy, but I can tell it is her just from the way it feels. Her watching me is special somehow. Often I itch to turn to her, to catch her looking. To catch a glimpse of her smile or her fluster. Just the fraction of a moment where I can believe she might actually feel the same way.Â
Or maybe not the same way. I would not wish this complete and utter agony on her. If she does come to fall for me, I hope she falls softer. I hope that I am not too blind to see and catch her before the rough landing.Â
That is only if I will ever be lucky enough to be enough for her. To have grown into a person, she can depend on rather than the childish prick (I am so sorry, did not mean to curse.) I used to be.Â
I am afraid I am running out of space. I could fill several more rolls of parchment (Which is not me asking for more) with hopes and wishes for the year ahead. Some more achievable (Pass my N.E.W.T. s) and some more hopeful (Snog Lily Evans. Again, please donât tell her I wrote any of this.)
Your favourite student,Â
James PotterÂ
Her fingers crumpled the paper where she gripped it tight, a lump rising in her throat. Her eyes scanned the content of the letter once more before pressing it briefly to her heart before placing it atop her pile of keepsakes.Â
Minerva pushed herself to her feet, in dire need of a break and craving a cup of lapsang souchong.Â
