I had mac & cheese for lunch today, must be one of those days.

Mac and cheese is definitely one of those comfort foods that just are incredible.

Oh God, okay, so it was really hot when it was smaller. The universe was compact and expanding slowly, but surely and— it still is expanding by the way— then there was a phase transition. A phase transition is like a shift between solid, liquid and gas. So when that happened it brought on cosmic inflation so that was just the extreme expansion of space and then because of that the universe just consisted of this type of plasma and elementary particles. The universe didn’t cool down immediately like the temperature was still really high and the particles were moving around, being created and being destroyed in collisions. Our Solar System wasn’t formed until after the gravitational collapse of a part of a molecular cloud though. 

So we're from a cloud of molecules that used to be really hot and expanded and blew up?

I could think of a few more things, unless it was a really special occasion dress.

It wasn’t really an explosion, it was an expansion. The universe was basically stretching; expanding. All the matter in the universe used to be in one spot and everything was much hotter and denser, but when a phase transition happened it caused a cosmic inflation which is when the universe grew much bigger, much faster. 

So, the universe got too big for anything and just exploded because it was really hot?

I know, it’s an even better feeling when you know that you do fuck all but still somehow manage to stay slim. We must be just two of a handful to be rewarded with perfect genes.
