Italians can look a variety of ways, yes, but Sicilians in particular having prominent noses and a lot of body hair are direct genetic traits.

I put on my sunglasses, to hide my swollen eyes, over my tears. I cried all my makeup off. Went inside to have a milkshake. I don’t know why. I wanted something to drink as I figured out what I would do. I got a soda and a milkshake. Medium. The cashier looked at me and with a line around the corner of the counter he rushed away from the counter “Hold on “ he yelled to a coworker.

I filled my soda and went back and saw him looking all over. I go up and he gets close and says “I made it a large”.

That was seriously enough for me not to do it. His kindness. Someone went out of their way and as I went back in my car to cry I realized I could muster through a few other days. A few more weeks. Then I came down from that panicky high of anxiety, depression, and pain. I finished my shake. And it was enough time to let me feel better. I… I’m alive. I’ll make it through.

Try and be nice today. Tomorrow. Something as much as a smile. It helped so much.

Think about OP.

They could have possibly found the strength to keep moving if the milkshake guy had just been nice but neutral. Just smiled and got their order as requested.

But what if that guy had been a general dick. Could have been the “I hate working here and I hate you” type. The likelihood OP would have said “fuck it all” and went over the edge is pretty high.

Small acts of kindness are wonderful and should never be discouraged. But, if you aren’t in a space to do that, just not being a dick could remind someone the world isn’t that bad too.

You DO actually hurt the low-wage workers, not the billionaire CEO/Owners of the company. 

Source: I’ve had my paycheck, hours, and job cut due to shoplifting on more than one occasion. I’m not the only one.

Also, you know who they blame first for large numbers of shoplifters frequenting the store or lots of product going missing? The staff. You know what they do if they think a few people on staff might be stealing? They replace all of them. Regardless of whether they can prove it. Yes. That’s totally legal.

Stop acting like your shoplifting is some radical anti-capitalist statement. It isn’t. You’re only hurting the very people you claim to support. SOME stores have a certain amount they expect to lose to shoplifting, but not all of them do. It can vary even within a company.

I do have to say, all of these examples are just people not paying attention. Like parking on the wrong side of the pump is literally irrelevant because we already have to do that and the girl who is trying to dribble the stream in is stupid because they put the pump in and obviously walk away so she's just dumb.
