So how do we actually put pressure on the WNBA to fix the pay discrepancy?
It's hard for us put pressure on them, because there are hoards of men ready to mock women for existing and fight tooth and nail for women they don't even know not to earn money for their work.
US Soccer turned to male public opinion during negotiations with the women's team pay in order to "prove" women don't deserve better. What the public thinks is extremely important to what corporations can get away with. Even serious criminal trials are swayed by what masses of random people's opinions are. When such a large chunk of the male population is openly delighted that women are treated terribly, they can treat women terribly with no consequences.
The only thing you can do is make your voice louder than all the men who fight against women's sports. Continue to support WNBA players financially and socially. Bring in as many of your friends as possible. Go to games. Watch on tv.
Be active on social media. Follow, boost with liking and commenting. It's pitiful to see a WNBA reel with only 13 comments, like wtf. We can't control how many followers they have, but followers can control how active it is. If 10% of the followers chose to simply engage, the following would look massive. Don't leave them hanging with only 700 likes on a finals highlight reel, it's actually insane. It really does make it look pathetic like no one is interested. Just be active.
💙💜Support Unrivaled💙💜 because that's the only threat the WNBA seems to care about right now. Watch and follow. Pick a favorite team and get invested.
Support the players because the WNBA needs to know it's the players we care about. Join fanbases, support fanmade content, follow the players individually, buy their personal merch (not the W jerseys they don't get a cent for).
After you do these things for a while and invite your friends, people who support women will overwhelm the misogynists and it can be more likely the WNBA will feel pressure. Because they definitely don't feel any pressure to treat women with respect right now.
And for fucks sake, NEVER watch men's sports. Watching men's sports erases progress we made with women's sports because it keeps the gap the same. To fix a gap, don't make men bigger. Supporting both does nothing to close the gap and just keeps men above. If it needs to be said, fuck men's sports. All they do is raise the domestic abuse rate.
