what if the cure for cancer would have eventually developed inside the mind of a teenage girl who made a mistake and was forced to drop out of school and never receive an education in order to raise a child she did not want.
This has always been a particularly problematic response to the decision to abort to me and I JUST NOW figured out why: the religious people in America who are typically the most vocal opponents of abortion are waiting for their Messiah to come back. They're waiting for someone born to take them to the celestial kingdom. By extension, it's perfectly logical to them to conceive of the cure for cancer being only a matter of time for the "right" person to be born whose mind contains the secret solution already formed.
