America's reliance on police to solve all of its social, cultural, mental, criminal, drug, poverty, and community issues is so heavy-handed that no institution, no matter how well-trained or qualified their officers are, could take on this gargantuan service to this country. Realistically, the police force needs to be re-examined for what we need it for specifically. should we really rely on police officers first for homelessness? Poverty issues? Domestic issues? Drug addiction? Mental cases? Civil issues? Maybe there is a case for some of these examples listed, but it is impossible for any police force to professionally manage successfully all of these areas because no one officer can be a jack of all community services. Just look across the pond. Our European allies have their police meet multi-level educational requirements and years of training before becoming an officer, and some of those countries do not allow their police to open carry either; yet, in America, you can turn eighteen, enroll in a police academy, and can be a gun-wielding police officer before you can legally have an alcoholic beverage. Police in America needs to fundamentally change, period.
