hot take: calling out problematic behavior isnt cancel culture, you just want a reason to continue to support your favs
calling out transphobia is not "cancel culture". calling out racism is not "cancel culture", as with homophobia, islamaphobia, antisemitism, and so on. some of you need to realize celebrities/people with audiences can actually make a HUGE impression on the way their viewers behave. they have an astounding amount of impact on marginalized groups, more of an impact than you think. the problematic things celebrities say and do should not be taken lightly. by not talking about these gross things people like lana del rey, lil nas x, harry styles, etc. has done, we are contributing to the normalization of problematic behavior. whether it was in the past or not, it still hurt people. it still made someone angry, upset, scared, sad. when lana del rey specifically targeted black women and said "its about the industry", that hurt someone. when lil nas x made an islamaphobic tweet, then made a joke when someone brought it up, refusing to apologize, that hurt someone. when melanie martinez sa'd timothy heller, that most obviously hurt someone. (also, hey, if anyone has any proof she didnt do this, let me know.) thank you for reading, have a nice day. also, sorry if some of this didn't make sense lol
