Internships. They are a necessary evil in the job market today. No matter what you want to do, or where you want to work, you need the experience of an internship. Students spend months (or years in my case) trying to find one. It’s an infuriating and irritating search for a job that is just as infuriating and irritating once you get it. That’s why I thought I would start this blog, to share my internship journey with anyone who can relate. Maybe you are a high school or college student looking for an internship and want to know what they’re like, or maybe you are an intern somewhere can relate to my internship tip, tricks and horror stories (okay just stories, most of them are not actually that horrible).

I guess I should tell you a bit of personal information now, but I will keep my identity a secret. Mostly because it makes me feel like an undercover investigator, but also for legal reasons (I’m not sure if it’s entirely legal to outwardly write about where you work).

Anyway, I am a rising senior at a New Jersey school. I study English and have a minor that changes on a daily basis. Right now it’s in Education, but it has also been Public Relations, Spanish, French, Communication, Cinema Studies and Women and Labor Studies (just the typical college student’s phobia of commitment).

Right now I am a summer intern at a publishing house. I’m in a department I have no interest in working in (can you tell why I kept my identity a secret now?) but I’ve dreamed of working in publishing since I was a freshman in high school. I’m still star struck every time I walk into the building and see the displays of previously published novels covering the walls. I’ve been there for a month now, but I’ve been writing down my day to day adventures in a journal on my horrifically long commute. Now I’m sharing them with the world (a.k.a. the two people who stumble onto this site).
