if your first reaction to hearing about Demi Lovato is to say anything along the lines of “she deserves it” or “addiction is a choice”, then you have clearly never struggled with addiction or had friends or family members struggle with it either. It’s not easy. Addiction is a disease. There is always choice involved but addiction itself is not a choice. No one directly chooses to become addicted, though it may be a byproduct of choosing to do drugs or drink alcohol. Addiction is messy and complicated and very difficult to overcome. Demi has my love, support, and prayers, always.
