new monthly post: my wife and i are disabled Black trans folks living in TX, both currently unemployed despite our best efforts, and we are at risk of being evicted and losing our home every month on top of not being able to afford any of our living expenses (like our utilities or the costs of managing our disabilities). as a result, we are reliant on mutual aid to stay afloat. reblogging this post (WITH NO TAGS UNLESS TO GIVE ACCESSIBILITY INFO) and donating helps the most. please, PLEASE help us not be on the streets and lose everything again.

A patient advocate or supporter can mitigate all these injustices by helping a patient navigate the hospital system, tracking things like meds and tests, pushing back against negligent medical staff, and just by being there. A visitor is proof that someone cares about the patient and is invested in the hospital treating them well. A visitor is a witness to any potential neglect or discrimination who can, for example, testify in a lawsuit. This makes a difference.

We are living in a tent with almost nothing, trying to get through one day at a time. But my biggest fear right now is my father. His health is getting worse, and he needs treatment and medication that we are struggling to afford every single day.

I never imagined that I would have to ask strangers for help just to keep my family going and to keep my father alive. But this is where we are now.

Okay so GOOD news: I was officially hired this morning, I have a job. I have been able to maintain having this room.

BAD news: I have $12 left of my overdraft and I’m behind payments on Klarna for groceries I bought weeks ago on a payment plan. I haven’t gotten a shift yet for the new job, just signed the paperwork. The soonest I’d see pay is 2 weeks after my first shift. I don’t have money for food, I don’t have money to get to my shifts once they’re scheduled, and I still haven’t gotten rent for the end of August.

There’s 2 weeks left, so I’m going to have to ask for help again with rent, food and travel this month. I’ve asked everyone I know irl and they’re all struggling, lots of fights were happening so I’m back asking here, but I want this to be the last time I ask, I don’t want to have to keep asking once September rolls around. I’m also still applying to more jobs to see if I can somehow get anything sooner, or make more so I don’t have to ask for September. Rent is $600, food for the month (I live off of spam) is $100. I need $22 for travel for the month, so my current goal is 722.
