So let me organise the problems and my opinions about this

CASE ONE: Ashley Nichols and Michael Kovach

Situation: Around 7 years ago, Michael and Ashley were doing a game stream, when they saw a username that sounded like a racial slur. They thought it would be funny to put it in an in-game shirt as a joke. Right now, they apologized, but people aren't buying it.

My opinion: I'm on the neutral side here, sure, what they did was bad. It wasn't right. Of course people would get offended. But the VAs apologized and swore to be better people. Not only that, the stream was almost 7 years ago which disturbs me the most. Why are you mad about it now, instead of before? That doesn't make sense. Again, it's understandable people got offended, but I just feel like, with the due date and the timing, it feels like it was to ruin TADC's reputation with its already bad state.

CASE TWO, THREE, AND FOUR: Amanda Hufford and Marissa Lenti

Situation 1: Amanda (and possibly Marissa) was getting cancelled for shipping RibBun (Gangle x Jax) as it was "Abuser x victim", a darkshipping trope

My opinion: This one. I'm fully on the VAs side for this situation, not because of Amanda being there, but because the reason is so lame, it's not even up for debate, yet here we are. Let me clear things up for shipping. Darkships are ok, just not Minor x Adult. Also, Jax x Gangle is NOT ABUSER X VICTIM. It is obviously bully x nerd, which is a normal shipping trope. Marissa ships it, thinking it's cute, but Amanda only respects it.

Situation 2: Amanda and Marissa were friends with BlackGryph0n, who was an accused groomer and possible sex offender

My opinion: This isn't- Oh my God. That is absolute BULLSHIT. Gryph didn't groom his wife, and even his wife said it himself, but that maybe just be me. Now, I'm not too keen about this, but Amanda and Marissa had already blocked him.

Situation 4: Sean Chiplock was accused of being a pedophile, having flirtatious messages with a minor

My opinion: I'm pretty sure that's old, and he didn't know the person was even a minor. The minor lied about their age, went on adult websites, and met Sean. He didn't know that the person was a minor. And from what I heard, he (Sean Chiplock) was proven innocent.

FINAL CASE: Gooseworx

Situation: Gooseworx makes a joke about supporting incest

My opinion: That's an old Twitter post, and was part of Gooseworx's humor (from what I heard) This was wrong, but Gooseworx most likely doesn't support incest, and only said that for fun.

You asked, so we shall answer.

For a while, we have received a range of entries in our askbox about whether we will cover certain controversies as they relate to Glitch’s shows, their characters, and creators. G!News is indeed a fan account where we have provided a neutral space and confirmed info/posts from the official Glitch, so naturally, that makes us part of the community. Whenever a recent controversy arises, our staff through their personal accounts share their sympathies to the affected parties, try to do what they can to help, and hope for a resolution. We are human beings first and fans second, after all.

When it comes to G!News as a whole, we aim to first provide confirmed/given information from all involved parties, which includes an official statement from Glitch themselves. We absolutely want to spread awareness, but providing all information in one post will (1) prevent further confusion or escalation of the discourse and (2) let people come to their own conclusions after seeing everything in full. As said before, we want to provide a neutral space.

We have been, and will continue, contacting Glitch/involved parties/sources for a statement while remaining mindful of boundaries. It does take some time to get a response.

In the meantime, we would like to remind the community of some tips:

⤷ There is ZERO excuse for harassment. It is okay to dislike something, but it absolutely does not justify this kind of behavior. It is neither condoned nor encouraged, least of all in our community space. Even if you are emotionally involved or have good intentions, it does not justify actions toward others such as: throwing insults, trashtalking, spamming, targeting individuals, taking drastic measures, fighting, or similar behavior. There are always better ways to help those affected, who are human beings, without escalating the situation.

⤷ Be informed (with the right info). It is incredibly important to be informed and spread awareness, but it’s also important to get the correct information provided/approved by involved parties. It might include ways you can help contribute to a resolution. With the internet providing so much info, please do research before reaching conclusions.

⤷ Be understanding, even if you don’t fully agree. Here’s the thing: we each hold our own complex views (or “sides”, as some put it) in certain situations. We want to help, to spread awareness. But nothing can be resolved if we start pointing fingers and attacking each other. Focus on the main problem, how to help the affected party, and try to understand other people’s views. Even if you don’t agree every point.

⤷ And most importantly, remember to be kind and respectful. Things can be resolved civilly and respectfully by following basic etiquette. Simply by being human. We must be better for the better.
