As the smallest walker came into view, Bones let out a soft whimper. Jo. His baby girl. He had failed. Distantly, he could hear Jim yelling. "Bones, come on! Shoot it! "Jim…" "You know it’s not her. That, that thing, is not Joanna. Not anymore." "I- I don’t know if I can." His hands were shaking. "…you don’t have to, just stay the hell away from her until I finish off these two-" Jim turned his attention back to the two walkers closing in on him, going to work with a machete. Bones stared at Jo- no, the walker, coming slowly towards him. He knew Jim was right. When you turn, nothing human is left behind; everything that made Jo his daughter was gone. Suddenly the walker paused and turned its head. After a moment’s hesitation, it started moving towards Jim, who was still fighting one walker. "No!" Bones yelled. A second later, a shot rang out. The small walker fell to the ground. Jim whirled around and saw Bones lowering his gun. "Bones…why?" What could he say? I failed my daughter, but I’m sure as hell not gonna fail you, kid. Instead, he simply said, “Someone’s gotta watch your godamn back. God knows you can’t do it yourself."

#i feel like we should talk about jim’s default reaction whenever he doesn’t know how to handle something   #he calls it weird   #"jim i love you"   #"jim i need you to follow this rule, i trust you"   #because jim hasn’t really had a lot of experience with love, has he?   #and not once has he felt like the rules truly apply to him   #especially when he can help someone by breaking them   #so when he says “that’s weird"   #what he really means is   #"these situations are completely unknown and scary to me and i’m not sure how to react"
