"We are older than your god" Should honestly be used by more Trans Folks just sayin.
so iāve eliminated my phone from the āstaying up all nightā equation by getting an alarm clock and charging said phone in another room, but this resulted in a second, secret problem of staying up too late drawing because i still had my tablet. i donāt wanna move my tablet to another room as well because i like having a little bit of drawing time before bed so for about a week i was likeā¦.. oh iāll just force myself off at the correct time eventually. one of these days that will happen.
but last night realized i'm never gonna just gain the willpower to curb my bad habits at random, thatās the entire reason i took the phone out of the room, so i just. set my tablet to turn completely greyscale from 12:30am to 8am to prevent me from staying up all night drawing. and guess who actually fucking went to bed the second his tablet turned grey.
moral of the story and a lesson i think everyone can take from this is donāt expect yourself to just get over your bad habits through sheer force of will. it wonāt fucking happen. instead make them as annoying as possible to continue. make them completely unsatisfying. sabotage your bad habits.
Never stop hating
Child: OtherKid did something that was not mean-spirited or against the rules but made me really upset :(
Me: Iām sorry that youāre upset, friend. Do you need anything from me right now?
Child: ā¦No I just wanted to tell you Iām sad. :(
Me: Okay, friend. Thank you for sharing.
Child: ā¦I really like it here though. :( Everyone is really nice. :( Iām just sad right now. :(
Me: Iām glad you think so. I like it here too.
Child: Iām gonna just sit by you for right now though. :(
Me: ā¦Okay, friend.
At least Child had the self-awareness to know that their need in the moment was just validation of their feelings and not punishment of OtherKid for innocuous behavior.
Same day I had a teen message me and say āhey Iām really frustrated with how you ran rehearsal todayā and I said āYeah, I understand where youāre coming from, I agree that I handled X and Y poorly. Iām glad you felt like you could bring it up,ā and Teen said āThank you for responding to me and listening. I understand where youāre coming from too.ā
I LOVE EMOTIONAL MATURITY WOW
Stuff thatās hard to do but worth it:
Taking time to validate kidsā feelings, even if theyāre āsillyā
Making a safe space for kids to express themselves, even if theyāre expressing criticism
Being open to having difficult conversations with kids, even when itās uncomfortable for one or both of you

Woke up early and made myself breakfast, puttered around, played with the cats.
Went to Costco for some groceries, ate their $1.50 hot dog combo, then wandered around a public park and picked blueberries. For free. I love this city.
Then I went home and hid in my cool dark apartment and played Dave the Diver for many hours. Finally paused to get more groceries at Trader Joe's, then back home for a hookup with all my favorite kinks.
And NOW I'm gonna get high and eat blood orange mochi & popcorn. And Daniel is visiting tomorrow for an entire week and I'm so thrilled.
Life is good.
I really have zero patience with the whole "man vs. bear" / "you're alone in an elevator with three adult men BUT you feel completely safe. Who are they" / "male night joggers are the natural predator of female night joggers" thing. Like, it's jokes, but it's also sincere, and it reinforces the idea that it's normal and good for women to be afraid all the time, especially of men.
It is not good for women to be afraid all the time, and we should not encourage it! When you consume a media diet of mostly true crime, buy a surveillance device for your house, and commiserate with the girlies online about how scary it is to see a man in a public place, you are basically cultivating an anxiety disorder. This will make your life more unpleasant, because you have trained yourself to be scared all the time, and it will not benefit you, because your fears are based on memes, not reality. You're not protecting yourself from anything; you're just giving yourself an extra flinch response.
And it plays right into the hands of conservatives! The right wing would love it if all women, especially all white and/or wealthy women, were terrified to leave their houses alone because they might see a strange man. They want you to be on a quest for One Good Man who will protect you from all other men and to be too scared to go anywhere without him. They want you to be on a hair trigger, ready to call the cops on anyone who makes you uncomfortable, because that is your function within their hierarchy.
If you are a woman, especially a white woman, then your fear is used to justify violence against poor people and people of color, especially men. From the perspective of conservatives, this is what your fear is for. And your fear is, in large part, what you are for.
Don't let them use you. Don't cultivate your fear.
Also you can equally cultivate NOT being afraid.
As a kid, I used to get so anxious when me and my grandmother would have to walk home from her job at the pub, back to our house on the other side of the estate. It would be dark, the streets would be mostly empty, and the other people we saw would loom up out of the dark and be terrifying to a small child - What if this was Stranger Danger! What if they wanted to attack us, rob us, kill us? At this point the Yorkshire Ripper was either still active or only recently caught, and the news was full of how dangerous it was for women to walk alone at night.
So, my grandmother invented the game of "Who's that?" Where, when we saw someone, we had to make up a story of who they were. Oh, he has a newspaper and a big coat, he must be off to do a night shift at the shipyard. That guy is in a suit, and he looks exhausted, maybe his work kept him behind and now he's five hours late for his tea. Those kids in a little huddle on the street corner - they're smoking weed or drinking a bottle of stolen cider, they are just hoping we ignore them. Etc. The stories usually started out very normal, and gradually got sillier as I calmed down ("Maybe she's a soviet spy trying to discover the secret of HP sauce...") but the whole point was to teach that we weren't the centre of the world, and that it was ridiculous to imagine that total strangers' plans would revolve around us.
please read this even if you're not indian. especially if you're not indian.
you've seen the jokes. india is "dirty", indians are "everywhere", why don't they fix their own country. ok. let me tell you why, and what's happening right now while nobody's watching.
first, the history you skipped: britain ruled india for two centuries and drained it. economist utsa patnaik's research estimates around $45 trillion in today's money was taken. the india that got independence in 1947 was one of the poorest countries on earth. every "why is india like this" question starts there. you don't get to profit off a robbery and then mock the crime scene.
now, what's happening RIGHT NOW:
in may the question paper for NEET leaked. that's the national medical entrance exam. over 2.2 million students took it. cancelled. years of studying, families' savings poured into coaching, gone overnight because someone sold the paper. students died by suicide after. these were kids who wanted to be doctors.
and out of that came a protest movement. a gen z group called the cockroach janta party, started by a 30 year old named abhijeet dipke, got 22 million instagram followers within DAYS. they've been doing a sit-in at jantar mantar in delhi demanding education minister dharmendra pradhan resign.
and then there's sonam wangchuk. if you've watched 3 idiots, he's the real engineer the character was based on. built solar schools in ladakh. invented ice stupas so himalayan villages have water. spent his whole life on education. he's 59 and he's been on hunger strike for 17+ days now. reporters went to see him this week and he was too weak to talk. and the troll armies are calling him "anti national" and "foreign funded". a man starving himself for other people's children. that's the thing here, anyone who asks a question is suddenly a traitor.
it's not one incident, it's everywhere you look:
⢠infrastructure worth thousands of crores failing within months of the ribbon cutting. tunnels collapsing in regions where heavy rain is a guarantee, not a surprise.
⢠youth unemployment near 10% for ages 15 to 29, 13.6% in cities. in a country of 1.42 billion where more than half the population is young.
⢠only about the top 3% of indians earn above 10 lakh a year. meanwhile billionaire wealth keeps ballooning and the headlines celebrate it.
⢠manipur burned for over two years. an ethnic conflict, tens of thousands displaced, and the prime minister barely said the word manipur while it happened.
⢠journalists raided. critics' houses bulldozed. activists sitting in jail for years without trial under laws like UAPA. our press freedom ranking has cratered.
⢠even the petrol is a fight now, ethanol blending pushed through while drivers complain about their engines and get no straight answers.
and through all of it, the PM, who came to power on religious polarisation (americans, sound familiar?), travels abroad for photo ops and has not held one single open press conference in over a decade. not one.
what i'm asking:
if you're not indian: share this. our media mostly won't cover any of it because the big outlets are owned by the same billionaires the government serves. the only reason wangchuk's fast is getting any coverage is people refusing to look away.
if you ARE indian: speak up even if you're comfortable. especially if you're comfortable. join the protests. add to this, correct me, translate it. staying quiet is a choice when nothing in this post touches your life.
india is not "dirty". india was robbed, and it's being robbed again, from the inside this time. but it's also the country where a 59 year old will starve for strangers' kids and 22 million young people will rally behind a party literally named after cockroaches, because cockroaches survive everything.
we can still save her. but only loudly.

hope u dont mind me keeping ur tags because ur right:
Iāll reblog this every time I see it.
This.Ā
ThisĀ is the post that sticks with me, when I think about how drug campaigns should be run. This is the post that I remember, that haunted me, because it was honest, it was raw in a wayĀ āDAREā and other such things never managed.Ā
Telling a KidĀ ādont do drugsā is all well and good, and sometimes it may work, done a certain wayā¦.but this.Ā
This is the post I remember, even years later, the one that makes me stop and shudder.Ā Ifuxdalion was right. This was more haunting to read then any anti drug campaign Iāve ever been subjected to in school as a kid.Ā
Itās honestĀ and open, and true, and they should all be like that.
cheese sits on the toilet while we take showers, and i like to stand on my tip toes and draw his silhouette in the steam from a high angle, then stand back to see how warped it is from his actual shape
oil and acrylic on masonite
Y'all for real please do these. Even if you're certain your posture doesn't suck. One day you will wake up with impinged shoulder pain like I did and let me tell you it fucking HURTS. Do these exercises even just once a week and it will make such a difference. Especially my fellow creatives out there, stop shrimping over your work and go do these right now. RIGHT NOW.
Also, if youāre even a little concerned about getting a hump or having trouble standing fully upright in your old age, this is how you prevent that. If you want to be up and about when youāre old you have to start when youāre younger. And keep in mind there is no bad time to start and itās never too late. Starting today is way better than never starting at all.
