There's mutal respect and confidence to stand up against one another if they disagree on something, Both sides can also show vulnerability and need help. It sounds so silly to praise when this is just a bare bones healthy relationship but I believe that still in this day and age writers often still "pick" a person to be strong and the other to be the weaker one - it's not ground breaking to make a strong woman and a weak male in a fictional relationship, its ground breaking to just make a relationship with two characters that communicate and respect one another.

Their whole relationship began when Riza's dad taught flame alchemy to Roy, with the secrets on how to do it being tattooed on Riza's back. But when Roy uses it during the war, Riza asks him to burn her back so that no one will ever learn flame alchemy again - AND HE DOES IT! Roy listens to Riza and burns her because she asked him too!! Even when I watched it I was waiting for him to turn around and refuse or try talk her out of it but no, because he trusted her judgement and respected her wishes.

Once again when Riza is bleeding out and being held hostage. When Roy has the opportunity to revive her and she says don't, he listens and trusts that she has a plan.
