maekar had armour. does that mean that he planned on competing in the tourney at some point? possibly even against his own sons and/or nephew?

that's fucking hilarious actually. he complained about going the whole time, but he also packed his own armour AND equipment so that he could compete.

Maekar, as we know, could not.

The concept of him as Maekars in a post Ashford tourney world as some kind of way of honour Baelors memory? Dunk told Baelor ‘I’m your man’ and what better way to keep being his man than serving the brother he loved (and also helping him co-parent Egg). And Maekar agreeing to take him on as a way of honouring Baelor’s memory by keeping an eye on the hedge knight he gave his life to save? Both thinking they’re the protector of the other??? It goes platinum in my house I fear.

Prince Maekar Targaryen seen on the regular beating the shit out of his sworn shield in the training grounds and everyone goes, ah yes Maekar taking his grief and rage out on the guy he blames for his brothers death. While really, Maekar is doing the only thing he can do to make sure Dunk doesn’t die the way his brother did. Making sure he’s ready.

While Dunk is like, he’s training me so I can protect him and his family the way I couldn’t for Baelor. I won’t let another Prince down. With the big earnest blue eyes and the attitude of a Labrador as Maekar gives him a wealth on new bruises.

No one knows wtf there deal is but the last time someone separated them Maekar refused to leave Summerhall for six months. And Ser Duncan looked so miserable you could practically see his ears dropping.

Also the first person to even whisper that Maekar is a kinslayer in the hearing of Ser Duncan the Tall finds themselves, with a sword to the neck, being told to apologise on bender knee by Prince Maekar’s new guard dog/elm tree sized shadow.
