( Disclaimer: this is just my options and thoughts about BTB, of course someone else might think differently and that is fine, so long as they are not harrassing or hurting anyone. Minor spoilers but I’m trying to be vauge as much as I can be to not spoil anything. Don’t troll me later for this.)

1. Badass women

One of the things I love about this anime is the women are really fleshed out. They are selfish and they are kind. They are mothers, sisters, and mother figures. They fight just as much as the boys and sometimes they get scarred to. Some are girly and some are seen as scary. The women are really well written. Compared most other shoujo/ shonen type animes. Especially Mirai, I won’t spoil much, but her arc was really unique and unlike anything I’d seen in a female protagonist’s arc in an anime in a while.

2. Handling of dark topics and themes

I won’t suffer coat it. There are some really dark topics in this anime. One character is pretty much suicidal and only lives because they think of themselves as a weapon, a lot internalized self hate, ptsd, and one young girl is pretty much will to die if it means her sister will be avenged.

But as some one who has depression and lost someone close to them this was a nice change in narrative.

Mirai didn’t automatically get better once a boy showed interest in her, Sakura wasn’t seen as a pure evil villian after her introduction and we were left wanting her to get better, and once she did her past actions were still remembered, they didn’t automatic forget what had happened. Some topics maybe could’ve been written better but personally it was refreshing to see some of these topics handled in this way, some things didn’t get better, friendship was nice but it couldn’t save them all the time, Sakura’s redemtion was handle well, Mirai grow in way that didn’t seemed to forced. At least to me

3. Soundtrack and sceneray

The soundtrack? Ugh it’s so good! The opening and ending are amazing, in fact the ending of this anime is what got me into it.

The opening is so cute and pretty! But the scores that play when they fight are so good! And they always match the fight! Seriously, some of the fight scenes were awesome and so breathtaking.

It was so well animated and framed that I forgot that this was an anime and not a movie, the screenery is on par with ghibli at times, there are some goofy frames but overall this anime has animation that is so crisp an clean and pretty.

4 . Great story/ Good Binge

Want to watch a good anime with story that isn’t 4000 episodes long? Than this is for you! It only has thirteen episodes? I think? and has a story that is pretty satisfying.

Another cool thing? Only three filler episodes.

Yes they dress up as idols and go to festive but the idol episode was in between some really intense episodes and was a nice break and the festival episode was so nice and lore filed I couldn’t even tell it was filler.

Also there is a movie where they wrap up a few plot holes and lose ends, but personally I haven seen it yet (I’m trying to find it, no luck yet) and from what I heard of it’s pretty much what I assumed happens, but has a few extra twist and turns and surprises.

5. Lack of fan service

I’m putting this at the bottom because this really depending on what you think counts as fan service.

There is some, but nothing cringey or exaggerated, like in Naruto. There is no bathhouse scenes, they did show the four taking a shower after they attack a monster, but there was no zoom in on any parts of there’s body that felt awkward ( at least to me) and it was treated a comical, they were trying to draw attention to them taking yet another shower after yet another defeat( spoilers??)

Ai takes risqué photos for her mother’s side busuness, which is a photography company, nothing sleazy. But again Ai isn’t human and I think they implied she changed her appearance for the photos ( not sure, don’t get mad if they didn’t),again we don’t see them, Mirai makes a comment about what she’s hiding and that’s that.

Again this was treated like a joke and we don’t see anything, that part was more focused on Mirai taking pictures ( in a maid costumes like May- ren from black butler) so that she can pay rent. A joke about her doing work she hates to play rent, I get that and it wasn’t cringey to watch and it was a little funny.

Akihito has a glasses fetish and Hiroomi has a little sister compelx, Hiroomi I feel isn’t attracted to mitsuki or Mirai like that, I kinda got the impression that he missed being seen as a cool big brother so instead of asking to be called big brother he just bugs her into doing it.

But when ever they start to act pervery Mitsuki puts them in there place or ignores them. There is some fan service, not going to lie, but nothing that made me feel like the FBI was going to charge in to my room for.

In conlusion

This is really good anime with a good story with the best Girls and Boys and You should most definitely watch it. It’s on funnimation, crunchyroll, and VRV. It deserves a lot more attion and the fans I’ve meet online so far are pretty chill. Welp that was me trying to recommend anime, hope you enjoy!
