Every time you go in a public place and something ISN’T disgusting it’s because somebody cleaned it. Every time you feel comfortable using a public bathroom or sitting at a restaurant table or setting something on a gas station counter or playing on a playground it’s because somebody cleaned it.
Thank you to everyone who cleans the world, especially those who are underpaid and under appreciated.

just encountered someone in low ranks after rank reset who had an oran berry on their mimikyu. an oran berry. which. is not a default item given to you in this game, surprisingly, so this person had to buy the oran berry from the shop and then equip it. what on earth.
To my 25 - 35 year olds, you've reached the age where people around you are starting to give up on themselves because they think it's too late. Don't let that energy rub off on you. It's not too late.

If you have several connected ideas that don't quite work as a regular multichap story but also don't quite feel like a series, a 5+1 style of fic might work for you.
In general, the fic is six chapters long (although you can format it however you'd like if that doesn't work for you). It chronicles 5 times that one thing happened and 1 time that something else happened instead.
For example: 5 times A and B didn't kiss... and one time they did.
It's an easily recognizable structure for many and it's a handy way for writers to get to "the good bits" without agonizing over transitions etc. in between. Each chapter hits with the power of a oneshot, but you still get the build up and release of a multichapter fic.
You don't have to follow the numbers exactly. 5+1 is just the most common format.
If you want some examples, check out the nearly 70K fics tagged with 5 Things (and synonyms). If you want to dig into the history, checkout the fanlore page.
maevelena money stuff post number #34059? - thinking again about like post canon / post tmdoms world where maeve can somehow regain control of her money again and then promptly. hands the keys over to elena, gives her full access and full control over the money. what a tremendous gesture of intimacy that would be for maeve to fully trust someone, even someone very close to her, with her money. after growing up with the fear instilled in her that even a parent would take it from her and lose it.
also thinking about elena going on and on about what makes most sense to do with the money and maeve nodding along like wow this is soooooooo boring but she is soooooo hot when she is smart about things
am i tired all the time because there's something physically wrong with me, or just this is how it feels to have a full time job (even one where i am very lucky and it's not very strenuous)? and other great mysteries

I've finished re-reading act 1 , few things stood out to me more this time . First , kid Maeve's suicide attempt in chapter 9. It's awfully tragic . It's implied that Donald guesses what happened. Does he just act like he didn't see it ? I feel like he'd pull a Maeve, drink to forget but I imagine a couple years down the line that thought will probably haunt him . I also think there is potential in Maeve retelling this story to Elena or Ashley. One of them asks how did she find out she was poison proof . Similar with if they ask how did she know she was bullet proof . I'd think she downplay it as stupid kid messing about but I think (especially Elena) would see the concerning suicidal ideals.
Continuing on this Donald train , I think him celebrating Maeve's half birthday was very cute . I'm jumping ahead a bit from act 1 so forgive me if this does get mentioned and I've forgot but how does he feel when Maeve is " dead " . He believed it a lot longer then Elena's 3 days .
Also I'm curious how he feels about homelander especially during that period where Madelyn was pushing them as a couple. .
first off, thanks so much for sharing thoughts you have while re-reading, it's such a treat, just as great if not better than comments from people reading my work for the first time :)
putting behind a cut because it got a bit long!
Yeah, I think Donald never really addresses the evidence he found of Maggie's suicide attempt. Not directly. He just doesn't know what to do! it does affect him, like, he can see how deeply affected she is, and WANTS to help, but feels utterly unequipped to do so, and mostly comes down feeling like even if he tried to address it he'd only make it worse... so yes, he's very much like Maeve in that way. or, she gets it from him :P I don't think he ever forgets, though.
re: Maeve telling that story to anyone. That's actually something I think about a LOT when it comes to most of the uncomfortable to traumatic situations i invented to put maeve in lol. like I wanna force her to unpack them, and force her to share them so she could hear someone else's reaction and like hear, that's terrible, that's not ok, you didn't deserve that. But at the same time I think most of these things she never would talk about. Even the version of her that's all mature and healthy by the end of TMDOMS, even in the post-TMDOMS world I imagine where she gets roped into doing therapy with Elena... I still have trouble imagining how she would realistically get to talking about any of these things. I think your suggestion about something coming up where her immunity to toxic things/poisons is relevant and someone asking her how she knows that is a way that particular story might come up. It's tough because I really WANT to imagine how those conversations would play out but at the same time, the fact that they're repressed feels so fundamental to them and to maeve's character? and in a way I think that's why her relationship with her dad is important, even if they never talk about those things aloud - the fact that he simply KNOWS what she went thru as a kid (or at least most of it) - he has a level of understanding that no one else will ever have. even if maeve told some version of that story to Elena or Ashley, like, they still wouldn't grasp it the same way Donald did from sitting there with Maggie sobbing covered in blood and guts on the bathroom floor, yknow?
Some other stories I often think about how/whether Maeve would ever talk about them with someone close to her (Elena/Ashley/even Connie, the therapist, once Elena gets her in there lol):
Her time on Vought Summer Clubhouse and specifically why she reacted the way she did to Mesmer (the fact that he read her mind and saw Gay Thoughts)
Kyle. everything with Kyle.
The incident in ch11 with Corey (i think this is extremely unlikely tbh, I can't imagine how she would ever see the need to bring it up, it's something she definitely doesn't want to examine)
the story of how she learned she's bulletproof/Leila
I agree that the half-birthday flashback is really cute, and one of my favorite Donald moments. Honestly, that flashback is kind of where I committed to making him more nuanced and sympathetic - it was already kinda bubbling up in my brain from the start, but establishing why Maeve hated him so much/was so messed up by him was important to get across first - and also, when writing arc 1, I wasn't 100% sure if I would have it in me to write the other story arcs that I did have generally planned at that point, so I was wary about setting up threads that I wasn't going to finish out, but I think by the time of writing that chapter I was feeling pretty good that I would continue it and get to flesh him out more, so I wanted to open that door that he was not ALL bad.
You aren't forgetting anything - I very deliberately skipped around depicting Donald's reaction to Maeve's death. Well, there's a bit of it at the end of Chapter 31 but it's very deliberately understated, and it's a skip from when Maggie's 18 all the way to Maeve's "death". Because, well, it's not that her death doesn't affect him, but he already felt like he lost her. And also that's just the sort of guy he is. Repressed. Numb. Doesn't know what to do with the grief. Doesn't even feel entitled to go to the funeral until Veronica convinces him. Disappointed not that Maeve didn't leave him a bunch of money or reconcile with him, but rather gutted that she didn't even leave a final fuck-you to him. Just sad that she moved on, didn't need him, was better off without him, after he gave everything he had and did his best at being a father but still did a shitty job. He doesn't show it a lot but he feels it. I think there's a line in that penultimate chapter where Veronica just casually talks about how depressed Donald was after Maeve's "death". I think of her as sort of Donald's "Elena", she can see past the "Teflon shit" and supports him as he deals with the emotions in his way.
As for Donald's feelings on Homelander: I don't think he liked him at all. (I think I actually have a little bit about this in the TMDOMS epilogue that remains unfinished lol gotta get around to that some day). I don't think he could articulate why, either, and maybe it's just that sort of dad is never gonna like the man who's fucking his daughter kind of thing, but I think he just has a general sense of like, "that guy's a prick and I think she could do better". I like to imagine sometimes what it'd be like for any of Maeve's various potential romantic partners from different ships to meet Donald. And. idk what circumstances would EVER lead to Homelander meeting him (I think it'd have to be Homelander's idea and he'd have to force the situation, maybe being obsessed w the idea of family and wanting a 'father in law') but if they did I think Donald would not really hide the fact that he doesn't like Homelander. He wouldn't be openly aggressive like Butcher or anything but just wouldn't be impressed with him and also wouldn't be that scared of him. Like, a little, because he knows what Supes can do, but also like, he lived with a supe who could kill him any day for 18 years, so, he's kinda learned to compartmentalize that fear. and also I think he has 100% confidence that Maeve wouldn't stand by and let Homelander kill him. He also has about 98% confidence that she wouldn't kill him herself. But if she wanted him dead, she'd probably rather do it herself than have her boyfriend do it in front of her. and if he ever got to see like the actual dynamic between Homelander & Maeve behind the scenes I think he'd hate Homelander way more. But he also wouldnt like, make a stink about it, or tell Maeve he doesn't like Homelander, because he knows quite well that would only backfire.
great example of why teambuilding on vibes isn't the best: i quickly threw together a version of that maeve team on showdown and immediately got swept by a fucking mega scrafty
