This is merely the first step of the death sentence. In this execution chamber the condemned is initially hanged until all vital signs cease; the bladder is also emptied here to prevent contamination of the verification room. He is then conveyed by the executioners along the overhead track to the verification chamber, where the execution report is formally handed over. Only after the verifying officer has signed does the body remain suspended. The hanging continues until the last condemned man has been transferred and has hung for a full five minutes; only then is the body permitted to be taken down for burial.

The process of verifying a death sentence is rigorous and complex.
