“ I was never a Hanson fan, it wasn’t that I had anything against them, they just weren’t my bag of chips musically. Yet I got sucked in to observing this fandom on Tumblr and Instagram when, in 2010, I met the extended Hanson family whilst on vacation in Florida with my own family. We kept in touch over the years, not super close but friendly enough. When I delved into the fandom (look, I’m a fan girl too, just not of Hanson - i get it, I do), it hooked me. So many in this fandom have this family wrong but some have it right. Generally the family is nice and normal but Zac is just….difficult.  My Dad is a retired cop and former Navy Seal. Zac Hanson was fascinated by this. He would take so much time to ask my Dad all of these questions and try to exude some kind of weird macho energy that always came off as childish. He openly make sexist at my Mom’s expense, she too having been a cop.  The thing is, when we met them again in late 2020, my Dad expressed disappointment in current US politics and Zac made a comment basically saying my Dad’s support of BLM was dissapinting because he was a cop. He said it in a jokey way, but you could tell he was seriously annoyed that my Dad had ‘betrayed’ his fellow cops by supporting racial equality. It was freakin’ weird.  I know that if they read this they will know who I am but I’m ok with that. I doubt I’m ever going to see them again and to be honest, I see so much blind hero worship in this fandom I find it both compelling and terrifying.  So, if you read this Zac, my Dad always said you wouldn’t last two seconds in the military. “
