Great post guys
i have so many thoughts.Â
what if you walked into a starbucks or any coffee shop at 8am and you walk up to the counter and this white haired bloodshot eyes guy covered in scars at the counter spits on you he's like the hell do you want *spits*. it's 8am you look behind him to see if his strange yellow and red haired big eyebrowsed co-worker will say anything about it but he's just eating coffee beans out of the jar. it's 8 in the morning so you kind of sigh and you're like "yeah I'd like a small pumpkin spice latte please" and the guy just starts hyena laughing at you like for a solid minute in your face and he turns around for a second to catch his breath and that's when you realize he's completely naked except for the apron. he calls you a bitch and leaves and his co-worker who's been eating coffee beans steps up to make your drink hes like HI. and it's 8am so you're like ....hi. but hhe just keeps talking making direct eye contact he's like "did you know that the pumpkin flavor in pumpkin spice is actually made from bababe bogos bababa bingus bebe" and youre like yep yeah uhuh you want to leave so bad but he's taking so long he even spills your drink in the middle of making it he's like "WHOOPS ahaha that's just like me. i'm just a clumsy guy" and he starts over and he's still talking and then FINALLY he gives you your drink and he's like "here you go-set your heart ablaze!!!" it's 8am. and you try to pay but he's like "NO.....no. i couldnt accept this" and you're like "but the drink costs money" and he looks kind of offended but he's still just smiling at you with his arms crossed so you just put the money on the counter in front of him and by then the guy from before is back and chases you out of the store barking like a dog. would that be fucked up.

Iâll never forget the hairstylist who told me the curly girl method is for wavy hair too and how she literally saved my life (first photo is before)
Alright, so the curly girl method is super confusing because there is SO much information out there. Iâve been at it for a year as of this month, and I still have more awkward hair days than good ones. Often I have to look at photos of other peopleâs progress further along to keep myself motivated.
That said, I still think itâs worth it, and you get better at it as you go!
If youâre a âwavyâ like me (curlies often call our texture a âloose curly pattern.â Theyâre so generous and sweet lmao), things are a bit different than they are for curlies.
1. Even though I have thick hair, the individual strands are extremely fine. I tried and found I canât ditch shampoo entirely the way people with coarse hair can. Instead, I use whatâs called a âlow-poo,â which is a shampoo without sulfates, petroleums, and specific alcohols that are especially drying. You WILL however, go longer between washes. I wash my hair every 5-8 days now, unless I get dirty or super sweaty working of course. Youâll also stop using a brush.
If you have coarser hair or thicker curls, you may go the no-poo route and eventually cleanse with conditioner or cowash only. Everyone is different!
2. I canât use gel to make a âcastâ to define my texture. Gel is too heavy for my fine hair. Instead, I use lightweight mousse if I use anything at all. Usually I just opt to forego any product but a light leave in conditioner.
3. The method of applying conditioner is different for wavies. Combing or finger-raking products through our hair breaks up our modest amount of texture and leaves our hair limp. Instead, I recommend the âsquish to condishâ method. Look it up on YouTube.
4. Protecting your hair is the same as it would be if you were a true curly. You should sleep with it in a satin wrap at night, wet-detangle it gently, periodically do deep conditions, etc.
5. Donât expect the results of someone with curly hair. This doesnât change the texture of your hair. If you donât have curls, they wonât magically appear. It simply enhances whatever texture you already have. In my case, thatâs loose waves.
If your hair is straight, but it always looks frizzy, dull, and limp, chances are you actually have wavy potential, and this method will add a little bounce and shine back to your hair.
If you want to try it out, google curlsbot. You can copy and paste the ingredients from different products to see whether theyâre curly girl approved. I also suggested following instagrams of people with similar hair textures to yours who do the method.
I also recommend AGAINST the common folly of getting started, which is thinking you need to go out and buy like 30 different expensive products. Youâll find a lot of affordable drug store brands are curly girl approved. I use these guys as my leave-in conditioner.
Theyâre literaly $0.89 in most stores. I admit I use a more expensive conditioner, but use these as my leave-in, so they last forever too.
You can start small and work toward trying out pricier stuff down the line once you get a hang of sticking to the method and picking out the right ingredients.
Itâs also worth noting that there is a class-action lawsuit against devacurl over hair loss, so many people are moving away from the brand now.
Anyway. The point is, if you think you might have even a little unlocked texture potential like I did, itâs worth a shot! Good luck!
#also if u have money to burn on more expensive products #this is a great opportunity to support black owned businesses
YES! Since I recommended using hair wraps to protect you hair (mostly at night), I shouldâve included this! Itâs EXTREMELY easy to find black-owned haircare shops on sites like Etsy. If youâre white like me and need wraps, pillowcases, scarves, etc. for protective styles, please buy from a black-owned shop.
Itâs the easiest, most affordable way to support the people whoâve always been leading the hair-love movement. Thereâs no reason to NOT purchase these items from black creators. This seller makes amazing products and even offers matching face masks with some bonnets & wraps!
The time is now!

I just want to remind everyone how affordable buying food from indigenous tribes is. I live in a major city and I was able to purchase and ship (15) pounds of fish from back home to myself for cheaper than I could buy it from a grocery store here in the city. Yeah, shipping has its own environmental factors but I was able to support an indigenous owned business while also getting my groceries at a lesser cost. (Buying in bulk is always a good idea if youâre planning on having something shipped to you)
Some tribal owned grocers that ship:
Bow and Arrow (Ute Mountain)
Native Harvest (White Earth)
Red Lake Fishery (Red Lake)
Wozupi (Mdewakanton Dakota)
Ramona Farms (Gila River)
Tanka Bars (Oglala)
Indian Pueblo Store (Pueblos)
Twisted Cedar Wine (Cedar Paiutes)
Ute Bison (Ute)
Seka Hills Olive Oil and Vinegars (Yocha Dehe Wintun)
She Nah Nam Seafood (Nisqually)
Sakari Botanicals (Inupiaq)
Honor the Earth (?)
Nett Lake Wild Rice (Anishinaabe)
Passamaquoddy maple (Passamaquoddy)
BONUS: coffee :)
Yeego Coffee (Navajo)
Spirit Mountain Roasting (Yuma Quechan)
Birchbark Coffee (Anishinaabe)
Thunder Island Coffee (Shinnecock)

Friendly reminder that there are 750 Quileute. Seven Hundred and Fifty. Think. For reference- how big was your middle school? (around that, maybe?) I think we tend not to understand how personal their inclusion in Twilight was. Smeyer took advantage of them. She's rich off of them and their culture. She exploited and misrepresented them. Seven hundred and fifty people. She could look each one of them in the eye and apologize in one afternoon and instead, she sits on 125 million dollars as if her hands are tied.
She could move their whole school out of the tsunami zone if she wanted to.

Can Americans please not bring Irish Gaelic names into white names discourse?
Irish is the native language of Irish people. Itâs an ancient language that is on the brink of extinction as a direct result of colonialism and cultural and physical genocide.
Names like Saoirse (freedom), Ăine (radiant), Aoife (beautiful) etc are traditional Irish names. Theyâre spelt âfunnyâ because Irish is a different language from English, and has some sounds that arenât found in the English language.
Itâs not the same thing as edgy white Americans naming their kid Kathylyn instead of Kathleen to try to be different
Also it's not even called Irish Gaelic it's called Gaeilge (gayl-ga) and is its own language, a beautiful one at that, fully encourage everyone interested in language revival to try learning it because we're losing it rapidly and there's not many GaeilgeoirĂ ("gayl-gor-ee" ie: fluent speakers) left
Yesâthis happens with Hebrew names all the time, too, and itâs really frustrating. No, the name Ariel isnât just a stupid Disney reference, itâs Hebrew. Toby isnât âweird for a girl,â itâs common for Jewish girls because itâs Toiba in Yiddish. Asher isnât a âtrendy white nameââthe influencer yummy mummy fucking stole it from us (which I hate). Believe me, I absolutely loathe those trendy made-up white people names like Bryzzley and Paedon, but keep in mind that thereâs a difference between names you havenât heard of because they belong to a different culture, and names some Mormon housewife made up by adding a bunch of Ys to a random noun.Â
This is also relevant with Welsh names. Cymraeg (Welsh) is a language found in Wales that has been severely damaged by English colonialism. Currently the Welsh government have been combating the dying of this language by making Welsh language a compulsory subject in schools up until sixth form, when you can drop it. All the signs have Welsh translations and almost all radio broadcasts, announcements, and phone lines have a Welsh option.
There are villages in Wales that speak only Welsh as well, I grew up in one that was mixed language but pretty much everyone bar a few immigrant parents spoke Welsh.
Here a some example names
Efnision, Branwen, Iown, Rhys, Nerys, Ceridwen, Sian, Taliesin
A few example names are from the Mabinogion which is the Welsh book of fables and includes some of the first stories about King Arthur.
This language is dying, but it's fighting to stay alive, and a lot of White Americans don't understand the history and significance of Welsh names.
Tumblr in particular is a very America centric site due to the majority of users being American so it's understandable that this isn't common knowledge, but it is still knowledge that exists and is valuable to learn.
