Apple was found to be throttling the CPU once the battery had deteriorated and could no longer support the amount of power needed to keep the CPU running at maximum capacity. Remember a few years back when handfuls of iphones we’re randomly shutting down at over 10% reported battery? That was usually a result of an expired battery being taxed by a fully powered CPU. It was definitely not a perfect solution, and choosing not to communicate this was clearly the wrong move. But this isn’t some conspiracy to force you to buy a new phone. Why would they continue to make new versions of iOS for devices they wanted to force you to upgrade from? It would make more sense to drop support of updates which would in turn reduce access to apps that make the phone worth while.
