Synopsis: Every child in Hyrule grew up hearing stories of the Demon King. No one could agree on what the beast looked like. Some claimed it was a midnight blue, standing tall on two legs with its trident in its grip; others insisted it was green and scaled; still others said it was not beast at all but a great dark dragon. Nor too could anyone agree on where the beast was sealed by the wise Princess Zelda of a thousand years ago and her courageous knight: deep in the belly of Death Mountain, in the thickest fog of the Lost Woods, even on an island in the sky above the clouds. Only two things were certain: the Demon King was evil incarnate, and was especially disposed to eating misbehaving children; those that stayed up too late, or did not eat their vegetables, or were unkind to their mothers. Every child feared the day the monster would break free from its seal, at least until they grew older and realized the Demon King was nothing more than myth and legend, a fairy tale as real as the Wind Fish or the Light Spirits. A story to pass on to their own children, they decided, and that was all. Queen Zelda was not so sure.

A fun story featuring a Princess Zelda that has a long term fascination with the legends surrounding the Demon King. With war looming over the horizon, she makes the journey to the Gerudo desert in order to plead for their assistance, and in the process uncovers that the Demon King is in fact real and still very much alive, who she frees with the assistance of a very curious Gerudo scholar. This story has a comedic undertone that makes it a very fun read. - bloobluebloo

An absolute delight of a fic, showcasing a Zelda full of life, curiosity, and take-charge spirit, pursuing the legend of the Demon King in her own way... and then pursuing him as a person! I had a ton of fun with this! - onlybythestars

A fascinating exploration of having the legends for reference just to pull one of the main characters out of myth. I will admit a bias for Falon in this story and his exploration in contrast to the Demon King, but the promises of Zelda and Ganondorf learning more about each other are also a delight. It is genuinely wild that just in the past few months we've had to contend with "Wind Waker Ganondorf is a liar he is just manipulating you" and "Wind Waker Ganondorf speaks like a fascist" and "Wind Waker Ganondorf is not even the same OoT Ganondorf he retcons him" because these arguments are allegedly easier to believe over Ganondorf, a human, having human emotion. Very hard to believe that the baddie who hungers for power might have some sentimentality for what he believes he's lost.

Sorry bringing this back because I'm thinking about it and it is actually really funny (derogatory) that people are this pressed because Ganondorf said "the place where I grew up kind of sucked and I was envious of my neighbors and I wanted what they have" like this is the most basic ass storyline you can give a villain and people can't handle it lmao

Also maybe an unpopular opinion but I hope the remake keeps Ganondorf's design mostly the same and doesn't try to make him 'sexier' cause so much of the totk Ganondorf content I see is just thirst posting and that is really not very interesting imo

Years ago I would have been so hyped at the thought of a oot remake, daydreaming about how they might expand on Ganondorf's character both through implications that were already in oot but not touched on, and with more fleshed-out aspects of him we saw in TP and especially WW, but now I'm just like 'please keep him exactly the same, don't change anything' cause after seeing him in totk I think they can only make him worse

Don't think I'll ever write a sequel to the puppet fic because that was basically a crack fic but I have been wondering how Zelda would take to meeting the puppets

I think once she gets over the 'why did you make copies of us and why are they claiming to be in love that's so weird???' aspect of it she would actually find them pretty cool

i will never move on from the Song of Healing from Majora's mask. At first, you listen to it and it just feels like a sad song, full of remorse and regret, and it's normal. it's the bridge between life and death. but the more you listen to it, the more you understand and feel what it tries to portray: healing. the melody, at first, melancholic, repeats itself. you remember and repeat those damn memories, trying to cling to it, in vain. but the more you think about it, the more you start to accept it, and understand what you gained from it. sometimes, the memories gave you a lesson, sometimes it's the aftereffects that give you one. whatever happened before or after the moment will be useful to you one way or another. and maybe you can feel that in the song, when the melody changes to something more soothing, more calm. and this, is healing.

accepting what happened and becoming better with this experience.

The thing with new era Zelda fandom is that Ganondorf falls into two camps. On one side you have people that legitimately think that giving Ganondorf an iota of personality or motivation will magically turn him into an uwu baby and there is nothing more morally damaging than feeling a twinge of empathy for the villain. On the other hand you have people who want a Ganondorf character arc, but that character arc is about Ganondorf fighting the curse of Demise so that he can break the cycle and be a “good” person. Both camps have contempt for Ganondorf as a character and what he represents/can represent in LoZ’s lore.

Also subtext is dead. Actually I read a post recently that went something along the lines of not being afraid to include subtext in your work even if people cannot see it, that not everything you want to say in your work has to be obvious just because people can’t read subtext. And this is becoming more and more of an issue lately. If something is not said plainly to a viewer it must not exist, obviously /sarcasm.
