ㅤGender and Sexuality

ㅤ ㅤheadcanons for Obey Me!

In the DEVILDOM, no one cares what tickles your fancy or how you present as.

[ GENDER ]ㅤㅤ I have the idea that they can all shapeshift at will, and being born androgynous or even intersex is just the norm.

Kids choose how to be referred to as soon as they're capable of speaking, and their family easily adjust if this changes at any given moment. Is expected for kids to be curious and experiment with their identity until they choose one they prefer. Some children choose once and remain as such for the rest of their existence, others change multiple times until they find what they're most comfortable as, and there are a slight number of demons that keep changing forever. Either way is not an issue because no one could care less.

There are multiple gender identities in the devildom. So most demons are not exclusively "a woman" or "a man."

Because of that, using gender neutral pronouns towards everyone until knowing what they prefer is second nature for all residents of the Devildom. "But that demon has huge boobs," and so those that other one and he will kill you up if you don't correct yourself after he makes clear what pronouns he uses.

[ SEXUALITY ]ㅤㅤ When it comes to sexuality I imagine demons are by nature non-monogamous but not strictly polygamous.

I mean, polygamy isn't a wild concept for them, I wouldn't call it the norm but is seen as commun and pretty normalized. Open relationships, in contrast, are far more popular. Demons are not expected to deprive themselves of their desires, so it's normal for them to go ahead and sleep around with other people with the consent of their partner(s), of course.

This doesn't mean cheating is seen as okay! Cheating is seen as meaningless and simply ridiculous. I mean, the vast majority of demons are open to non-monogamous relationships. You genuinely couldn't have one talk before ending in someone's else's bed? Pathetic.

Demons love to gossip, so expect to not be able to get any game for centuries and be looked down on until your ex partner(s) decide to forgive you fully. Even then, it will be extremely difficult to get back into another relationship afterward.

Strictly monogamous relationships are less common, but they do exist. In these cases, the couple wear rings even before marriage to demonstrate to other demons that they're not available. These are respected because monogamous demons are known for being highly territorial, and trying to get into their partner's pants means disrespecting them both. The couple will, in fact, beat you up.

Gender wise, no one cares. You could be a female demon and strictly enjoy the touch of other female demons, and none will care.

Have your fun. It is actually expected to try around to find what you prefer, demons pride themselves over exploring everything life has to offer. They have long lives, after all, doing the same thing all their lives without trying something new is quite boring. Even if you exclusively enjoy one gender of demon, trying different types in their category can keep life from becoming dull.

In the CELESTIAL REALM gender and sexuality are a bit more controversial.

[ GENDER ]ㅤㅤ In my opinion gender would be less strict than in the human world because their father, God, is genderless. So, no having a gender that can fit into a box isn't looked down on.

I even imagine angels are mostly genderless, like dolls. They have no private parts. How do they go to the bathroom? Wouldn't you like to know, weather boy?

Jokes aside, they just don't have those body functions. They're angels, not humans, after all. Though, just like demons, they can make themselves change and choose what they wish their reproductive organs to be. They make their bodies have specific organs only and exclusively to reproduce.

Kids are born without reproductive organs. As they grow up, they choose what to lean into: maybe they want to be like that strong angel that just happens to have boobs, or like that other one that doesn't have those parts but looks cool with those scars in their bare chest.

Talking about clothing, being nude isn't seen as sexual so there's probably places in the Celestial Realm where angels are naked simply because. Maybe close to rivers or any form of water, if an angel wants to swim, those clothes won't stop them. There's never night in there, so if the sun is hitting hard? Yeah, you can just take those clothes off.

Their clothes are inherently very thin, and they don't cover much. Why would they? They're proud of their bodies.

[ SEXUALITY ]ㅤㅤ Sex isn't something they talk about much in the Celestial Realm. There's no sign that says "sex isn't allowed" or a punishment set for having fun, but it's socially stigmatisated. Angels will judge you, and in the group of the ones that won't, there aren't many to choose from who will engage with you in that manner.

You're expected to stick to your duties and be devoted to Father after all. When do you have the time to have desires?

Though I will give them the fact that isn't who you fall in love with the problem. Is the sexual aspect that is stigmatisated. Same sex couples aren't seen as bad. Lust is the problem, and that's what the humans got wrong when they got the writings.

Sex is seen as only for reproduction. Angels barely have those feelings, so that's why they're are mostly made of humans that have died or created by Father itself rather than from babies.

When it comes to relationships, monogamy would be the norm. I mean, the high majority see each other as siblings, so the ones that don't see each other as siblings and choose to be in a romantic relationship are rare. So you can really ask for much here. You can't have a harem there, I'm afraid. And middling with other species can, in fact, get you a punishment.

Being with a demon as angel is asking to get your wings taken off. With a human? Do you wish to follow the steps of Lilith? Wizards are in thin ice. They aren't demons and can be separated from humans since magic prolongs their lives, and some are powerful enough to fight both a demon and an angel. So you may get together with one, but certain will still judge you. Also, they must side with the celestial realm if anything were to happen.

When it comes to REAPERS things get very confusing.

[ GENDER ]ㅤㅤ Reapers don't have a solid body most of the time nor they reproduce like humans do. Their natural bodies are made of something similar as smoke or gaz, their bodies are intangible unless they decide the contrary.

So, of course, their bodies are moldable. They choose the appearance they want to have, but after choosing once, they're unable to change their human appearance again at will, thats why most reapers dont have a human body.

Reapers don't reproduce. They are created. They can reproduce if they wish, but after taking on a human body. However, they have to be cautious since it can be seen as a punishable crime if they reproduce with a human (demons and angels are free game according to them).

This makes gender confusing because they aren't born with a sex altogether. For centuries, reapers didn't have a reason to take a human-like appearance.

Gender isn't something reapers care about. The ones that choose to never take on a human-like appearance, keep to themselves and continue working for eternity, and the ones that do are understanding of the complexities of gender.

Reapers mostly don't choose a specific gender, so you can refer to them as you see fit. The bast majority could not care less about pronouns or how you view them.

[ SEXUALITY ]ㅤㅤ When it comes to their sexuality, they're open to anything. After all, reapers spend most of their lives without a gender or sex, making these very unimportant. Some may prefer certain inclinations towards what we see as traditional feminity or masculinity or androgyny. However, it's still rare for them to actually care about the sex and/or gender of their partner.

They dont use labels since they dont see the need for them. Thought the more knowledgeable ones of the human world might choose to use human-made labels to describe themselves, but this is a very small number of them.

Reapers are mostly monogamous, but even if they choose to be in an open and/or poly relationship, they still mate for eternity. This doesn't need to mean exclusivity but a commitment to love each other forever. And no, you can't escape them with the afterlife. That's their domain, and wherever you end up afterward, they will find you.

Those are my thoughts regarding gender and sexuality in the OB! World. Feel free to give your own ideas or even corrections if you have better ones.

I plan on making one for their bodies and stuff. Like in, sorry, but I refuse the idea that in Obey Me demons and reapers have the same anatomy as humans and angels. Angels and humans can be similar or almost the same since, according to the Bible, "humans were created in the image and likeness of God," but demons and reapers? Hell, nah.
