I think Bilbo was the greatest treasure in Thorin’s life, and definitely more important than the Arkenstone. This is proven by his behavior immediately after the showdown on the ramparts. The shock of being betrayed by Bilbo was overwhelming. The closest, the most beloved, the one whom Thorin trusted ABSOLUTELY. Thorin is dressed in armor and armed, but the most important thing is that now he knows exactly where the stone is - it is in Bard’s pocket! If the Arkenstone really was that important to Thorin, he would attack immediately! But Thorin suddenly doesn’t care. From this point on we hear nothing more about the Arkenstone. He goes into the throne room and just sits there, filled with pain and resentment. We must understand that Thorin has a difficult fate and hard life, and Bilbo became a real salvation for his wounded soul. And now he feels that he has lost the only one that was really important to him. And of course it's not a stone.

Today is April 27th. On this day (2941, the Third Age of Middle-earth) the hobbit Bilbo Baggins left the Shire with the company of Thorin Oakenshield and the wizard Gandalf. The adventure begins!

AU. After the battle, Thorin gives the crown to Fili and decides to live together with Bilbo. He really wanted to stay in Erebor, but Bilbo missed home so much that they decided to settle in the Shire.

I think that the most terrible period for Bilbo in his journey was the time he spent in the Mountain immediately after Thorin's death and until the moment when he left there. Thorin died, Bilbo's grief is immeasurable. Everything lost its meaning, everything was in vain. For the first time in his life Bilbo forgets that he needs to eat. He was wounded in the head, but he forgot about that too. He doesn't know where to hide just to cry. It seems to me that these were very dreadful hours spent in semidarkness and deafening silence. No one cares about the hobbit, dwarves are busy organizing the funeral of Thorin and his nephews and at the same time the coronation of Dain. But Bilbo doesn't need anyone anymore. Thorin died, from that moment on the Mountain is a foreign, empty and cold place for him, from which he needs to leave. And he will leave there, leave as quickly as possible, leave once and for all. And he has a long life ahead of him with sleepless, lonely nights to finally cry all his tears.
