âWho Loves The Sunâ by The Velvet Underground My own little tribute to Lou Reed - the only piece of vinyl I own with his voice on it, and this particular song has gotten the crap played out of it over the years.
âCupid's Trickâ by Elliott Smith Always love when he starts wailing on that guitar towards the end of this song, comes out of nowhere, beautiful.
âJavelin Unlandingâ by Bill Callahan Been digging in to the new album over the last week, and I've taken a shine to this song in particular.
âShameâ by Low One of my top five Low songs of all time. Just sit back and bask in it for a while.

I wrote about my first foray into the wide world of e-books for Full Stop.
âRainâ by Patty Griffin In honor of the ridiculous storm that's been pounding Portland for the past 72 hours. Plus, that voice.
âPropagationâ by Lower Dens Another autumnal-feeling song, off one of my favorite albums from last year.
Buying a gun in our times, especially for self-defense, seems to me an aggressive or defensive actâa statement by the purchaser about how he feels about his community, his neighbors and his country. It means he doesnât feel safe in his bed at night, that he doesnât trust the police to stop the criminals, and he doesnât trust his fellow citizens not to attack. You can mask it with talk of freedom or the Constitution but underneath it all is fear. Firearms have become a manifestation of a massive distrust of both government and the wider society, a physical manifestation of a deepening societal and political divide.
Nathan Hegedus, "Bad Land," The Morning News (found this article from back in April today, an amazing piece of writing on American violence, past and present)
âPerfect Circleâ by R.E.M. This song always reminds me of autumn for some reason, and it's almost here.

I wrote a review of Kathryn Davis's new novel Duplex for Full Stop.
âRecoverâ by Chvrches Listened to the new album on the way to work today. It's a winner, and I still can't get enough of this song.
âWakin On A Pretty Dayâ by Kurt Vile In honor of my wife getting me the album on vinyl for my birthday yesterday - a contender for my album of the year! Love this song.

I saw Burning Airlines in Pomona, CA a few days after that! I wore my Burning Airlines shirt around the day of the show and got a lot of dirty looksâŚ
No joke: the week of 9/11/01 I had booked Burning Airlines, Explosions in the Sky, and âŚAnd You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead for three different shows. Surprised I wasnât reported to the FBI.
My latest piece for Full Stop is on the screen adaptations of a couple fantasy novels you might have heard of.

âStrangelightâ by Fugazi One of my top ten Fugazi songs, off my favorite of their albums.
I interviewed Scott McClanahan - author of one of my favorite books of the year, Crapalachia - for Full Stop.
