ive seen some of your art and I just want to say I really love it. :3 To be completely honest you're kind of an inspiration to me and I want to ask for your tips if that's okay? on how to draw better? I don't know if you get a lot of asks but I hope I'm not bothering you, just if you have time :) again I hope it doesn't annoy you. But if you have any pointers or advice to give I would really appreciate it ^_^'
Honestly I wish I knew your @ so we could have a deeper conversation. Honestly, it takes practice. Practice practice practice. And LOTS of it. I know you probably hate that word. Believe me, it almost makes me reel out of my chair in math. But in order to get better, you have to be willing to try new things, do something differently, and mess up. Yes!! Mess up !! Let me tell you a little secret. It’s OKAY to mess up. Making mistakes is necessary, and a part of the general learning process of things. I’m not telling you to go run in the road but I’m letting you know that if you dedicate the patience and ability to accept doing things wrong, and making mistakes? You’re already winning a part of the battle my friend. By being willing to try again even when you didn’t create something the way you wanted to sets you up for success.
A drawing style is something that develops with time, work, and patience. It won’t pop up like a daisy. But the coolio thing about it is that it is highly unique to you, even if it’s an amalgamation of different people you’ve drawn inspiration from over the years. It sounds like a long time, but really in retrospect it’s not that long Your art is an expression of you and your essence. When you learn the basics and continually get better, your skills will gradually improve. It’s okay to start with the little things. They’re important!
*(As a side note, you can’t hate art and want to be better at it, obviously. You might hate TRYING art because you’re frustrated and not getting anywhere, but I firmly believe that if its not something you enjoy or appreciate, it simply doesn’t work. Make sure you never are trying to get better just because you want to get better than somebody else. Competition is a good thing, but if your sole motivation is to get past others, then I don’t think it would be enjoyable. Not saying that’s you! But it’s something to consider)
Let me add that getting frustrated will probably happen a lot, but it’s not something you should set yourself up for by tangling with it. To be completely honest, I almost never make anything specifically for tumblr. Of course, I dearly appreciate the few followers I have. But if I draw with the motive of doing it for my blog alone, I’ll do just that: get frustrated. Without always realizing it, I redraw my standards in a wacky way and feel like I’m not measuring up to them. So I just draw for me. And if I really like a thing I did I’ll post a couple of the really good ones. It’s a lot healthier that way! Validation ≠ motivation.
And honestly?? The fact that you’re inspired by my little bit of work is astounding? That blesses me holy heckaroo. Cause have you seen the quality of my stuff lately?? I think it looks like shit rn tbh but such kind words from a blessed angel really make me smile :):) thank you lovely
Wow I’m aggravated that I wrote this heartfelt message and lost the whole thing while writing! And had to write it all again!! So I don’t think I missed anything I wanted to tell you. I think it’s actually longer than it first was but that is a.ok. Thank you for asking dear. It’s a process, but it’s really worth it.
