@vei1s     ...       sent      ...       a kiss shared while submerged in water
It was early in the afternoon, spring crisp in the air. For once Buck had awoken not with pain in his joints but with an energy that was dispersed the night before. A plan was formed with haste, a bag with clothes and food shoved into it, a towel that had seen better days. It took less than thirty minutes for Buck to guide them towards the waterfall. It wasnât a secret, not really. Buck just never had the time to take Gen to it. By the time he awoke after his transformation it was usually mid-day and in winter the rocks could turn slippery with ice.
He was quick to rid himself of his clothes. Nudity was no longer a thing that bothered him. After years of shredding clothes and turning into a beast each night there wasnât much Buck was ashamed of. As they dove and splashed around he found that the restless energy settled. The sun was getting higher, warming the clear water. Buck reached out taking Genâs hands in his pulling her along to the spot near the waterfall, the spray cooling on the skin.
Diving below the water was easy, with his enhanced senses it was easy to find Gen. Before either of them could resurface he was pulling her close. An arm slipping around their waist, the other finding their cheek in the murky blueness. It was a simple kiss, quaint and soft and full of all the hazy feelings he could never express.
@vei1s     ...       sent      ...       "all that stuff weighs you down. it slows you down."
The air had a certain chill to it, Buck could feel the sweat drying on him. Training wasnât hard physically, but there was a certain mental aspect to it that Buck was struggling with. Bobby had made that clear. He wasnât sure if the older man was frustrated with him or simply beyond caring. Genâs words cut through his quiet spiral. Buck looked up from where he was sitting on the roof. The building was old, but far enough away from people that no one asked questions.Â
He rubbed at his neck, fingers catching on the uneven scales that had started to form there. Part of him was a little terrified heâd turn into some type of lizard. Realising he hadnât answered Gen he gave a shrug, turning back to look over the sprawling landscape. âYeah, well being told youâre a descendant of some powerful beast meant to save the world kinda weighs on you after a while.â He didnât mean for it to come out so bitter, but Buck had never been one to be the centre of attention, let alone be some mythical hero from a long forgotten prophecy.
âI just-â words cut off, stuck in his throat like they were hard to say. âWhat if I'm not good enough?â Comes out eventually, voice an octave lower than before. âI donât think Iâm the hero Bobby says I am.â
@vei1s     ...       sent      ...       "i'll sleep when i'm dead."
The sun was dipping below the horizon, warm winds shifting towards cold. Winter was coming and it was evident by the shorter days and the cold nights. He had tucked away the last of the horses, by next week heâd have to bring out the fleeces for them. Inside the house was warmer but not by much. He spotted Gen sitting on the couch, blonde hair peeking over the top. Walking over he leaned down placing a kiss on the top of their head. âThought youâd be asleep by now,â he said quietly. Gen had been awake before him and Buck tended to rise before the sun, something about an article needing publishing. He usually paid more attention but Buck had been half asleep not even sure if he was dreaming or if Gen was really talking to him.Â
At Genâs words he gave a huff, leaning on the back of the couch. âHey thatâs my line,â Buck said, a smile slipping onto his face. âNow the important question is have you eaten yet?â

@stormdcosmic     ...       sent      ...        "just let me take care of you for a bit."
Superhuman didnât mean invulnerable, though Buck wished it was. Wrapped up in several blankets with a heater pointed directly at him he still felt cold. It had been a long time since Buck had felt anything but warm. Since his powers had activated and then been mutated heâd never been sick. Injured, plenty of times. But the common cold was something of the past, or so he thought. He tried to think where it could have come from. Perhaps the lab of illegal experiments he took down last week, or the alien goo he had accidentally swallowed a couple days ago after wrestling with said alien in space days ago.
What Buck hadn't anticipated was how the flu would affect him. It had started small with him shivering, then his body temperature dropping to normal. Normal ! Buck hadnât had a temperature in the normal range for years, it made him feel weird. But then came the sneezing and without meaning came the fire. Every time he sneezed or coughed flames burst from him, something that hadn't happened since he got his powers.Â
He had no lab, no containment cell that could contain his heat. It was hard to reach out but heâd already burned through three shirts and four pairs of trousers. The last thing he wanted was to burn down his own apartment because he sneezed too hard.
At Sueâs words he looked up, blinking away the hazy film over his eyes. âIâm fine,â he said, voice gravely and rough. As if on queue he felt a sneeze coming on, Buck had just enough time to stand up and toss the blankets off himself before it happened. A sneeze followed by his body bursting into distinct blue flames. He had put his suit on after his last set of clothes turned to ash. Looking from his hands to Sue he sniffed, âFine, okay.â
Gen can feel her face turn red from the burning in her cheeks. A giggle spills out, she shrugs, rubs at her arm, canât find it in her to even blink or breathe suddenly. Just eyes locked onto his, itâd be annoying if she didnt find him so cute. Thereâs no fight as he pulls her along, gen is far too curious to pass up the opportunity to find out more about the whole vampire thing and maybe buck himself. The fact she doesnât feel any fear being close to him is something sheâll investigate later. Maybe. Eventually.
Her skin prickles when his words hit her skin, it isnât unwelcome or uncomfortable, if anything she likes it. more than she probably should. the goosebumps stay, her heart does a few flips and hammers like itâs trying to punch out of her chest. all because heâs close enough that she can feel the fabric of his shirt brush her skin and his breath tickling her ear and she barely cares about the room anymore. he could show her a completely empty one, be pretending the door is even there, and theyâd not even notice.
it takes effort but gen manages to tear their focus away from him, turning it to the room. they take a soft step in, gaze flitting around, unsure of how to react to the normalness of it. his explanation makes her laugh, half turning back to him as she does.
âiâm way more confused at the lack of like, any personal things. like, thatâs way more questionable than a potential lack of a bed.â she shrugs and starts to walk around the room, trying to find anything close to a decoration.
âlike you should put up some posters, get a plant, like yeah you might not use the space all that much but you still gotta like, have fun with it. turn it into something you would actually use. i could like totally help you with it too, like uh, if you wanted?â
@ign1tes
He remembers his bedroom as a child; bland and boring without the hint of personality. Just like his mother wanted it. After leaving home and moving from place to place he never really had a place to call his own. Everything he had lived in a box or a bag, easy to transport. It's translated to his life after death. He still doesnât know how to decorate, or what it means to be human.Â
His eyes follow Gen around the room, lips slightly twitching into a smile at the uptick of their heartbeat. âI thought the minimalist look was in,â he says with a straight face. In truth he never thought much about his living arrangements outside of making sure sunlight doesnât get in.
Moving to the bed he sits on the edge stretching his legs out, eyes scanning the bare room and trying to imagine what Gen is describing. âThe whole burning in sunlight kinda makes it hard to go to IKEA and get nice furniture.â Itâs a joke, but there is some truth to it. Furniture is easy to get, but it's been so long since buck has been inside a humanâs house he isnât sure what normal is.Â
He holds up his hand, posture and face relaxed as he gazes at her. âHey if you think you can make it look like less of a vampire cave youâre welcome to try,â part of him wants to see. Ideas run through his head and he almost finds himself giddy with the thought. âJust keep the curtains,â he gestures to the heavy blackout curtains. While ugly, they were the best he could get without burning himself to death. âIâd rather not fry.â
@stormdcosmic     ...       sent      ...       sender draping a blanket over receiver's shoulders
The rumble of a distant storm was loud, it made him flinch every time the room echoed with the clap of thunder. Bad memories, ones he couldnât distinguish from his own or realities he made up to cope were swirling in his mind. The smell of rain clung to him, and while it didnât have such a terrible effect as it once did on him, it still brought with it the image of him falling. Perhaps he pushed himself too far, got too cocky. He thought the experiments made him invincible, they only proved to highlight his flaws. It wasnât a terrible fall, heâd fallen before. It would, to him, be just another failed attempt at proving he was better.
Buck didnât shiver, he could hardly feel the cold, but there was something about being wet and (broken) hurt that made him tremble slightly. Something draped around his shoulders, he reached up without thinking about it, pulling the blanket tighter and looking up. He couldnât help the soft smile of thanks in return, dipping his head as he tried, and failed to make himself a little smaller; hoping the blanket could swallow him whole.
âItâll get wet,â was the only thing he could think of as a thank you. The words wouldnât pass his lips, shame still curling the inside of his stomach making everything taste sour. He pulled a knee up, resting his chin on it and turning his gaze away as he did. âIâm okay,â he added after a beat. His mind twisting and pulling between simply pushing her away. It was easier, always easier to push people away. And the other part of him wanted to talk about it. Yet he wasnât sure where or how to start. There was a smaller part of him, that he wouldnât let out, that was soothed and glad for the comfort. It had been so long, he thought, since anyone had been this nice to him.

her eyes speak empathy and takes a minute , she was always a voice of reason , even in the smallest things and she's had countless of moments where she's been the best support for any hero that she's came across .
" you know you don't have to explain yourself to me . " she takes a beat , and a small sigh , she's sympathises with him in the sense that she's had moments where choices that she's made had caused friction . "âi believe that , but i also believe that some choices we make is what makes us human . y'know despite , what we've been turned into . but i don't think you have a cruel bone now , i think it's your choices and what you learn from them that matters more . someone could be so kind , and they still get judge . i don't see you differently , "
Itâs hard not to think of what he used to be. Heâs seen the news articles, the videos, the blog posts. His old uniform was burnt up on his re-entry, but he knows it. The memories are hazy but he remembers the feeling. It lingers there, more than any want, any desire. To be that old version of himself, that helped people and did good. Her words make him pause, what we've been turned into, he wants to laugh but instead bites his tongue. He was nothing more than a weapon to his father. They called him unstoppable, he called himself a monster. Harsh and cruel, but Buck only does things in extremes.Â
Still he lets out a small snort of amusement as she continues talking, head turning slightly to look at her. âYou may not,â he starts saying, words quiet and soft. Buck raises a hand between them, turning his hand palm up. Itâs easy to make the flames appear, that had never been an issue. The blue dances across his skin, pale in the light of the day. He remembers standing out in the light, now heâs most noticeable at night. âThe world sees me differently.â He risks looking at her, searching for something. A lie perhaps, disappointment. He canât remember when he started seeking those things out, only that he never used to be so guarded. âI donât remember what it means to be a hero, I'm afraid that they might have taken that away from me.â
â every time i close my eyes, it feels like iâm falling. â
Duke lay curled up, tail to snout, in a small ball between them. Overlooking the city it seemed so peaceful, so quiet. It was easy to lean up against the dragon, he felt Duke huff out underneath him with something like contentment. For a moment Buck wanted nothing more than to fall asleep, let Dukeâs rising and falling chest lull him into slumber. Theyâd been up for days trying to get Duke to fly. If it wasnât Buck it was Gen. The dragon was untrained and impulsive, flying in circles and almost dropping them multiple times. Without either of them having proper training it was hard to discipline the dragon.Â
Genâs words cut through his sleepy haze, Buck turned his head looking at her next to him. âHey,â he reached out, taking their hand in his, fingers running over their palm. âIf you donât want to go up anymore thatâs okay,â Buck shuffled forward until he was right next to her. âIâm sorry,â he said into the crown of their head as he wrapped his arm around them. âI should have waited until he was better trained before taking you up.â

dog, sender's dog pulls them in receiver's direction. but reversed mhm
He had awoken that morning with something buzzing under his skin. His meds did nothing to calm him, only seemed to electrify the sensation under his skin. He had done the dishes, folded his laundry but he was still needing something. Duke seemed to be mirroring him, following him around and bouncing around the house. By midafternoon when the sensation hadnât vanished he grabbed the lead from the door. Jogging through the streets and the park seemed to help both of them. Buck was just happy that Duke had grown out of the stage of running in front of him. It was an hour in before he finally stopped at the edge of the park. Leaning over with his hands on his knees, sweat dripping down his face. Duke sat down next to him, tongue hanging out and panting.Â
Then Duke was off pulling at his lead. There was a slight friction burn but Buck gave him more slack rushing to where Duke was heading. It wasn't often that Duke went after something and he was gaining speed. Knowing it would only hurt his hand he let the lead go. It took Buck a couple seconds to catch up just as Duke was jumping on someone. Buck whistled drawing his dog back to him as he rushed over, âI am so sorry,â he put his hands up in apology.
Leaning down he picked up Dukeâs lead, eyeing his dog as it sat on the ground between them, a strange sort of look on its face like he was happy. Buck finally looked up with a slight surprise on his face, âOh hey youâre the writer for that article,â he exclaimed with a smile growing on his face. âAbout the community outreach? I was going to follow up but uh,â he trailed off, something sticking in his throat. It was awkward to say âi diedâ but he had, it had kind of put his life on hold. âThings got busy with work. But uh I hope it's going okay, I hope you're okay.â
[ LEAN ] sender looks over receiver's shoulder who is sitting, placing a hand on their desk while receiver shows them something
Thereâs nothing but the desk lamp on, casting a yellow glow on the computer in front of them. The office is empty, a distant sound of humming filling the space. Getting in was easy; a stolen security card, plans of the camera network. It was hacking the software that would be harder. A security protocol set to alert the owner any time someone used it. It would mean they had minutes to escape as soon as they started. The escape route was already planned, vehicles ready a few streets down.Â
He felt Gen lean next to him, he turned his head to look at her. She was so close he could practically kiss her, the temptation was there but he knew it wasnât the time. âYou ready for some fun?â he asked, a grin forming on his face. Thinking fuck it, he leaned over and gave Gen a quick kiss making sure not to linge. âFor good luck,â Buck said.
As soon as he connected the cable from their description device the clock was on. He pressed a button on the side of his watch starting the three minute count down. The bar across the screen moved silently, rather fastly if Buck had to think about it. A minute and forty-three seconds is all it took. His brows furrowed for a moment but there was no time to linger. Pulling the device he stuffed it inside a secure pouch and into the inside of his jacket.Â
They moved in sync, heading for the door instep. Buck pulled the pistol from its holster and held it low. He reached out to the door leading to the stairs but before he could touch it there was an explosion. His ears rang, body flying back and through the glass wall. It took a second too long for him to realise what had happened. Rolling over he searched for his gun and then Gen. She was already getting up as he reached for his weapon.
The countdown didnât matter anymore, someone else was in the building with them. No words were spoken as they made their way through the blown gap in the wall. First rule of exploding doors; never run into the trap waiting at the other exit. It was twelve floors down and four bodies left in their wake. As soon as they were outside he grabbed Gen's hand. London was busy on a Friday night; an easy crowd to blend into. Except they were streets away from any cover and their transportation.Â
Hiding in the shadows they moved in a silence only trained operatives had. âWeâve been set up,â Buck stated the obvious. He lifted the gun back to its holster, mentally calculating how many bullets were already spent. âIâd like to know why.â
[ chin up ] sender lifts receiver's chin to stop them from hiding their tears
Spring lingers in the air, the crispness tickles his nose. The days seem to stretch on and on, he basks in. Heâs hunched over the small table near the cooker, chair at the perfect angle to look out the window and see the ocean. The water is endless, kissing the horizon in the far distance. He smells the salt even without being too close. Some part of him does miss it. There's a certain freedom out on the seas. Where the sun kisses his cheeks and the spray of water cools him.Â
But the back and forth is making it harder. He never used to come onto land so much. Now it's seasonal; a home split between the two. And the more it happens the less he wants to go back out there. Yet he can feel it, an unnatural pull that draws him back. He knows he has to, he doesnât have a choice. Impending doom fills him at the thought of being on land all year. Like something is keeping him oceanbound. He hates the feeling, it eats away at him.Â
His cheeks are warm yet he can feel the gentle slide of a tear down it. He doesnât really know heâs crying. Soft footsteps echo behind him, the presence of someone behind him. Buck ducks his head, eyes finally torn away from the sea view. He doesnât know how long he was staring at it.Â
The chair next to him squeaks as Gen sits down. Before he can say or do anything gentle fingers press against his chin. He could push back but when has he ever? Buck lifts his face, dark blue eyes holding the storm inside of them. Genâs fingers brush against the tear, so gentle he thinks he might break under it. Something in him stirs, such a simple touch. Like Gen can wipe away the pain of the ocean. She can hold back the waves, he thinks.
â  it's okay. i've got you. you're safe now. â
buzzing filled his ears, low and irritating. it wasn't the usual hum of electricity and machinery that filled the place. this was something different. he could feel his heart in his chest beating uncomfortably fast, fingers numb at their tips.
in the darkness of the room it was hard to see but he could feel gen next to him, a hand on his arm. something whispering into his ear, it took a moment - or several, before he could figure out what they where saying.
nightmares still flashed across his vision. metal and blood, screams from either he or gen; buck asn't sure. shifting on the bed he could feel his leg aching, a twinge in his back. the doctors had said his injuries had mostly healed. but there was a long road of recovery ahead. it took him a moment to push through the pain before he could shift to press himself closer to gen, tucking his own face between hers and the pillow.
death was haunting him.
but for a moment he could pretend it was okay if only she was close. like gen could chase away the nightmares, sooth the aches. carefully, and still tender, he slipped his arm around their waist hand slipping underneath the edges of her shirt. it wasn't too start anything, but the comfort of skin. to feel something alive under his hands when all he felt like was a ghost.
@vei1s     ...       continued      ...       from here
the bowl gets set on the counter, gaze going to gen automatically. it's like looking through the scope of a rifle, all he ever sees is her. he's prepared for something; help with a job, perhaps something more domestic.
but gen's words make him freeze, head cocking to the side. shock runs through his body but isn't evident in his face; he's too trained to show any emotion on his face. it only takes a moment but he reaches out taking one of their hands in his and putting it over his chest. they both know what lies beneath. a faded scar from a bullet, the only bullet he's ever taken for anybody. they can't wear wedding rings, they can't be linked back to each other. but for buck its as good as anything.
"hey," he tips gen's chin up to find their eyes, his own holds a softness he thought long trained out of him. but gen has a way of pulling it out. "are you sure?" he doesn't mean to question her, but in their line of work its not as easy as handing in your notice. leaving the company means certain death. a debt must be paid. "are you sure you want me to leave?"
what buck means to ask is; 'am i the one you want?' because he's never been the final guy. he's played the role of husband, boyfriend, but like anything in the job it's a skin he puts on. relationships are a weakness, at least long term ones that is. it's why they find them young, the broken people with nothing to loose. for the first time in a decade there's something curling in his chest; doubt. not for gen, not for the love he has for her. but doubt that he's good enough.

â it's been raining for three days straight. â ok im done
clouds obscure the sun throwing the time of day off. it's not cold enough to light the fireplace but he's thrown on the old sweater he dug out the back of his wardrobe. it's a little scratchy and he's trying not to think about it too hard.
breakfast is half eaten, the hunger isn't there but he knows he has to eat with his medication. it's easier to sip the coffee in his hands. his mind drifts, its the adhd he thinks. but there's something else curling at his mind making it harder to focus.
gen's words drag him from the fog, blinking he turns to her giving a warm smile. buck hums leaning down to press a kiss on gen's shoulder. "has it?" he murmurs, his eyes finally drift towards the window. the water paints the world grey, in the distant he can see the lake, the doc. the more he looks the more uneasy he feels.
@vei1s     ...       continued      ...       from here
there's heat in his cheeks, he ducks his head to hide the rising blush. it's not that he gets flustered easily, however gen has a way that makes him giddy. heart beating in his chest to a beat he can't recognise, the flutter of fresh butterflies in his stomach. the feeling is sticky sweet, it coats his tongue, his brain, his every waking thought. and buck bathes in, wants more of the flustered, too quick heartbeat, the smile she throws his way.
words choke in his throat at her words and it takes his brain a moment to catch up to the rest of their sentence. buck peers at her, smile firmly imprinted on his face. it's almost tempting, with how close they are to lean over and kiss them. he almost does it, finds himself leaning closer. instead he turns back to the salad in front of him clearing his throat. "well why don't you take a seat," he jerks his head to the open door leading out to the small patio in the back.
it's quaint and small, barely enough room for a couple chairs and a table, but the view makes it worth it. with the sun high in the sky and not a cloud in sight it makes it the perfect place to eat and relax, to get cozy. "let me a gentleman for once and let me spoil you."
