(this is not a theory, it’s me explaining how I relate to Ralsei as a multigender person)

Many reasons for the very popular trans girl Ralsei headcanon still apply. Them wearing a dress and talking about being a princess, their struggle with finding an identity and breaking away from the strict roles set by the prophecy, and him being referred to with they/them pronouns in their title description thingy (idk what it’s called)

However, I feel like it is ambiguous whether Ralsei is a binary trans person or not. His story is definitely very easily read trans allegory, and I feel like reading Ralsei as nonbinary elevates it somewhat (on a personal level, for me).

I thought I was a binary boy for so long, because I felt like being perceived as a girl took away from my masculinity. Limiting myself to only being only a boy felt stifling, but being only a girl felt more stifling, so I picked the lesser of two bad options. I felt trapped in the gender binary, and in society’s view of gender roles as a whole. When I finally realized I’m multigender, it was extremely freeing. I relate to Ralsei on this level; being stuck following a strict set of imposed rules and not being able to deviate from it.

Also, this part of the Tenna figurine ad caught my attention (I’m aware that it’s not canon but it feels important enough to mention anyway)

The Tenna figurine is a gift for girls AND boys. Ralsei is BOTH of them. I’m definitely reading too much into this but I’m adding it anyway because why not??

I also love the trans girl Ralsei headcanon/theory, and I definitely don’t believe my interpretation is correct or better than any others. I just relate so heavily to Ralsei for so many reasons, and my relationship with gender is a big one!!

Cause remember the Seven Aces dialogue back in the egg room.

They asked them to Photocopy a Kris BECAUSE Kris is not available to play with them. This to me is a clear indication that the purpose of the Vessel is to be a spare cage seemingly available when Kris isn't.

And this makes sense when you consider the opening segment.

Anyone playing that for the first time is gonna assume that you will be playing as the Vessel but you're not and that's the point. You're not building your body. Your building your cage.

A cage with a human soul and parts.

Now i am not saying that this prophecy isn't talking about Kris it definitely is but i also think that there is a point to the Vessel being referred to as a copy of Kris specifically especially considering the context clue of a copy filling out Kris's purpose when Kris isn't there to do it themself. As in both Vessel and Kris purpose seems to be intentionally tied together.

Which is why i don't think the Vessel is Soul's ally at all but rather someone who is in the conspiracy with everyone else.

Cause remember our Vessel is saved into the code. The specifics of our choices don't matter but it is saved we already have forwarding of it coming back. But.

That foreshadowing involves it fighting its own creator being allied with someone else.

And i want to remember the specific dialogue about the machine.

It's stating that the Vessel is rescued specifically in the canon.

As in someone picked up and fixed it immediately after finding it and we know from the Seven Aces dialogue that they were all monochrome copies of each other specifically designed to cheat that Kris coloured in.

So why can't it be true for the Vessel as well?

Vessel is someone who is discarded and is seemingly a monochrome copy of Kris why can't the Rouxls fixing the machine be a foreshadowing about Kris colouring in the Vessel especially since the Soul is obligated to pick it's favourite colour anyway so like is it really far fetched idea?

Furthermore remember Rouxls's motivation for fixing the machine.

It was so he could impress Queen enough to make him her minion.

This is a bit flimsy i admit but considering that Carol and Kris are working together and that Kris is very much her minion in Canon wouldn't it make sense for Kris to take the Vessel?

Wouldn't it make sense for the character who is already trapping and limiting the Soul who is already involving the Soul in situations they didn't consent to, to use their choices against them.

Well, on some level that started already in Chapter 4, with the Hammer of Justice introducing the idea of Lightners being reborn in Dark Works as Darkners under very specific circumstances.

But the Flowers really put that point front and center. They are living things that receive some sort of Wish-Fulfillment in the Dark World, much like how our Lightner characters receive cool outfits and powers… but the main Wish being fulfilled for them is having a higher form of consciousness and a more anthropomorphic form, like how Darkners come to life in the Dark World. Flowery’s portrait is Black-and-White, much like the Lightner characters, because he is a kind of Lightner as far as the metaphysical mechanics of Light and Dark function… except he also has colorful Darkner-like Golden eyes.

And so much of the conflict of this Chapter is based on their unique liminality. They’re Lightner enough that being reduced back to their Light World ‘inanimate’ form feels much more like a death to them then it feels to a regular Darkner (who can find contentment as inanimate objects, as they are ‘alive’ from the Dreams the Lightners associate with them)… but also Lightner enough that they can’t actually survive for long in the Dark World, their physical bodies still have their regular physical needs, but unlike Susie, they also can’t exactly pull out of the Dark World, grab a snack for nourishment and then pull back in.

And then the Secret Boss is another kind of Liminal being, a more traditional Darkner (in the sense of a truly inanimate object come to life) that’s also being brought to life due to being possessed by a Lightner ghost. Another sort of unique being who is not quite as Ontologically Doomed as the Flowers, but struggles with figuring out what her identity is in her own way. She feels more at home with other Liminal Beings like the Flowers, despite being technically a different kind of being.

All of this feels like build up to exploring the nature of Ralsei, the so-called ‘impossibility’, who already has some of their own ‘Liminal’ elements - they look much more ‘like a Monster’ than any other non-Gerson Darkner, they can appear and survive in every Dark World, and from a meta-narrative perspective, their role as a Darkner Playable Party Member seems to clash with the game’s meta-commentary making Darkners to be like a whole species defined as Video Game NPCs on some level.

They don’t quite seem to match any of the ‘Rules’ of the Liminal Beings we know of so far. Resurrected Lightners like Gerson are specifically mentioned to only appear in very specific Dark Worlds, so this is like the opposite of Ralsei’s situation, and even with their white fur, their portrait seems considerably less monochromatic to me than Flowery’s. But I think this is still a thematic build-up being done to explore different kinds of liminality between Light and Dark and how they affect the relevant characters, before we get into the particular kind of liminality that Ralsei represents.

Hey! Soooo I know I don’t post here as often anymore. Partly because I’ve been busy, partly because I’ve been distracted by other things.

Also partly because I’m afraid that if I post my random thoughts on here, nobody will really care.

But that’s ridiculous! This is my Tumblr. I shouldn’t be afraid to post what’s really on my mind!

Anyway, I’ve seen a lot of interpretations of the Seven Soul Colors from Undertale. A lot of them make sense, and are well formulated, but some of them seem to miss the mark for me. Especially the one that I imagine myself having - Integrity. 

That’s why I’ve decided to post my own interpretations of the Seven Soul Colors!

I feel like it could be interpreted either way - she genuinely has never heard of it but can tell it can't be anything good, or she knows and really, really doesn't want us to have her unleash that kind of power.

Let's run with the second one for a sec.

I've seen people suggest maybe cast it herself in the past on Dess during the bunker incident (causing her death/disappearance) and maybe blanked it from her memory or held it as her deepest secret, but I wanna propose another idea here.

Monsters supposedly can't use magic in the light world but Noelle is a nerd, and a gamer.

She's not as loud about it as Berdly, but she's a huge fan of the Dragon Blazers series - bringing it up in chapter 1 asking to carry on playing it with Rudy, then following through with that in chapter 2. If you act against the first virovirokun with her and they and Kris explain how fights work, she says this:

Then we have her main attack: Iceshock. In the second hospital visit, Rudy suggests she uses Fireshock in the normal route (only to be dismissed by Noelle because 'the mage already left the party'), while Noelle herself suggests Iceshock in the weird route:

The 'shock' spells seem to be from Dragon Blazers specifically... Her spells are an in-game video game reference, she's just as nerdy in her dark world form as Berdly.

So... Snowgrave. With all this in mind, I don't think it's something she's ever cast, but she recognises the name. And I think it's probably from a Dragon Blazers creepypasta.

Noelle LOVES scary things, and from this we know she likes unusual and creepy things in video games, so it's not a stretch to assume she's the kinda person who likes to read creepypasta. If Iceshock is already from the series, Snowgrave being from a horror story/video based on the same series wouldn't surprise me at all.

Notes: The "Robot Ducky" is a mech based off the Duck Trash Machine you could make in Deltarune and featured heavily in Chapter 1 in Kingdom of Hometown.

I gathered some of my existing art assets of the duck that featured in my comic to make this info sheet about it, and written some lore about its purpose as well as its absence during the events of Undertale.

The dialogue is loosely adapted from an optional conversation in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
