Spamton & Pink are two sides of the same coin that is Kris
I’ve seen a lot of people complain that Pink’s placement as a secret boss in chapter 5 is disconnected or unfitting. but i think she's actually perfect for the last secret boss, especially if secret bosses are meant to symbolize a desire for freedom. Now i will yap about it for several paragraphs
several parallels are built between Spamton and Pink during her fight, which make it clear they’re meant to be compared. their designs both feature pink and gold, they both steal a body that isn’t theirs, they’re both involved with green strings, they both feature Mad Dummy in their boss fight/theme, are both puppets related to cats, and they both have odd connections to the weird route (as evidenced by the translation of Cutie Mew Mew Magic). in almost every other way however, Spamton and Pink are opposites. Spamton’s story is a tragedy; from the start, his rainbow-colored peers don’t accept him as their own and see him as lesser for being different and less capable. he’s a broken and decrepit doll who’s had life screw him over every step of the way, he’s been abandoned by everyone he ever loved and cared about, his body has been marred beyond recognition, he’s treated as a living puppet with no autonomy or freedom, and he doesn’t get to keep his dream body or ‘fuse with his chosen vessel'. Even after being defeated by the fun gang, none of his problems are fixed; he has no choice but to accept his status as a simple puppet. Spamton is Kris’ worst case scenario. they are terrified this is going to be their own future, they’re visibly shaken by Spamton’s fight unlike any other in the entire game. i think the reason Chapter 2 in particular features a character which symbolizes such a depressing future for Kris is because Chapter 2’s dark fountain is created by the Roaring Knight. a character which Kris is very heavily implied to have some kind of partnership with, one where the Knight holds power and control over Kris (as evidenced by the knighting scene after their fight, and the high probability that the Knight is the person who talks to Kris on the phone and sends them orders). the dynamic Kris has with the Knight can be compared to the relationship Spamton had with his benefactor, where he must follow orders from a mysterious voice on the phone lest he be punished (and punished he was). by this point in the story, Kris is both being metaphorically puppeted by the Knight, and literally puppeted by the player, leaving them feeling a complete loss of autonomy. this situation is opening way to Kris’ worst future. one where they are abandoned by everyone and thrown aside like an unwanted puppet. like Spamton. in Chapter 5 however, the dark fountain is created by Kris instead. though the creation of the fountain was clearly premeditated (likely to get time for the Knight to kidnap Asgore), i don’t think it’s crazy to say that part of the reason they created it in the moment was to distract Susie from the Rudy situation. to keep Susie happy, because they don’t want her best day ever being ruined by the news. Kris cares about Susie so, so much, and it’s clear she’s a huge part of the reason Kris can now see a future for themself where things aren’t so bad. this hope manifests as Pink. Pink is present in Kris’ subconscious before Chapter 5 even begins. Kris plays Shop 3 on the piano in Noelle’s house, a song which is later present in the shop owned by Pink. Shop 3 shows a more somber side to Pink’s character, as she simply watches the sunset, captivated by how freeing it feels to be able to do so in her dream body. Pink herself, of course, is very much a parallel to Kris, being a Darkner and a Lightner both using the same body, who struggle with differing wants and desires and must ultimately learn to cooperate with each other despite that (which may hint towards the idea that Kris' ideal ending would be them and the player learning to understand each other, rather than one or the other being banished for good).
even though Pink isn’t really a flower, when she pretends to be one, HER rainbow-colored peers all see her as one of them and accept her with open arms, uncaring of her strange circumstances. In the end, Pink gets to keep her dream body and watch the sunset with her best friend. All things Spamton desperately wanted and never got to have, and all things Kris hopes to have. Pink is Kris’ best case scenario, their subconscious manifesting a future for them where everything ends up fine, even if just for a little while.
Spamton being an example of Kris' worst self/future doesn't mean he isn't deserving of kindness and safety though, quite the opposite. Kris’ self improvement journey is mirrored by the fact that showing Spamton kindness at his lowest will reward the player with the Dealmaker, an item which reduces Puppet/Cat damage by 40%, greatly helping to defeat Pink (aka help her in her self discovery journey), while choosing to hurt Spamton will just give you the Puppet Scarf, a near useless item that doesn’t help at all with Pink’s fight. the same way being shown kindness by Susie and Ralsei was the only way Kris got motivation to keep going despite all the bullshit happening in their life. on the other hand, doing the weird route will make Spamton, a manifestation of Kris’ worst self, a mandatory boss. He will become HIS worst self, he will hurt others and accept his role as a puppet if it means he can gain freedom in some small way, before being killed, leaving the player with a Puppet Scarf no matter what. An item which will either be, again, completely useless for defeating Pink in an “aborted” weird route, or won’t be utilized at all in a side B weird route, as Pink is completely inaccessible, with Kris’ hopes for a better future being completely destroyed and their life ending in a similar way to how Spamton’s did. their worst nightmare came to fruition.
i'm so happy someone did a proper in depth analysis of pink and picked up on the parallels between her and spamton.
there's even other parallels which while not narratively important strengthen the intention behind the narrative ones. small things like the fact seam asks if you kept/found the mannequin when hinting at mew mew and the fact that in both bosses you fight the possessed ideal body of the two ghosts we know who desire corporeality.
i also think the intention behind pink having a shadow crystal is that the crystal is from the body itself, like how spamton found a shadow crystal in the mettaton body (as mentioned by seam). so the bodies themselves even further parallel each other. in the spamton neo boss you fight the distorted unfulfilled dream of mettaton's dream body, in the pink boss you fight the mad ghosts dream body, but rather than a distorted abandoned dream it's a dream once left unfulfilled now being fulfilled by it's original dreamer. this also in general plays strongly into chapter 5s specific focus on dreams.
swatch also talks about dreams when discussing the neo body in their post neo fight dialogue, that seems important to mention.

meanwhile ralsei is having a realization 🏳️⚧️
I am overthinking but the fact Green keeps asking for money that the other flowers owe them and there is a drawer in Asriel room with the text "You have taken enough." Makes me think. Did Asriel get exploited because he was overly kind?
Did people used to ask him for money because they knew that the goody two shoe Asriel would never turn down the opportunity to help a friend.
Asriel, did you get exploited by your friends?
Ngl. The only reason i am asking this because of his history with Bratty and the fact he's green in the flashback but it's at least an interesting headcanon.
Mew
honestly this was a really satisfying detail to notice about chapter 5

You hate Flowery because he's a twink.
I hate Flowery because he's an Asgore bad behaviour enabler.
We are not the same.
Asgore getting a whole second family just to neglect them too. Hes a chud in every lifetime and opportunity
It's so funny because on one hand yeah he definitely did care for the flowers and did provide for them but also the moment his flowers became sentient and were able to love him back he speed ran neglect like it was a compition.
And you know what?
Not out of character for him.
Sure, man cares about Rudy and is willing to give him flowers and they seem to have a pretty good friends but aside from him. Asgore always chases the people who are done with him than who are willing to be with him. Like sure we don't know anything about Asriel but the fact he always chases after him and Toriel and not Kris. The kid who listened to everything he told them, the one who delivered flowers for him even though the action makes them uncomfortable is kinda of dick move on his part. It's like he's not actually trying to find atonement or forgiveness. He just wants to prove something to everyone and therefore he has nothing to prove to Kris because Kris doesn't shut out Asgore completely hence he neglects them.
Like yes Asgore loves Kris but also he doesn't think about Kris that much because Kris loves him which causes him to neglect Kris because there is nothing to prove to Kris. Just like the flower people.
His own insecurities cloud his judgement where instead of prioritising the people who love him. He priorities the people who are done with him or his own chaotic delusions.
And that's why he never stopped being a neglectful person even when the darkworld provided him a paradise because it was never about his circumstances, it was about how he never did anything about his circumstances. How he never changed for anyone who loved him. Until it was too late.
You know. If my dad was visibly making my mom uncomfortable in every public interaction and using me to deliver flowers that could only increase my mother's discomfort. Maybe I'll also throw a twink at him.
Just saying.
Whatever
I feel like before i try to discuss any grand themes or theories about Aqua i should first try to explain who i think Aqua is to Kris at the most surface level reading so i don't keep running around in circles. So here I go.
I feel like when it comes to Aqua the similarities between her and Kris are quite obvious like they both like knives, they both have gremlin energy, they both have similar appearances etc. etc. and for a lot of people that's where this ends and they go on to make some wild theories about Kris being cyan because Aqua is meant to represent Cyan. However for me the physical similarities are not where the conversation ends but rather where the conversation starts. As in I do believe that these physical similarities are put there for a reason but i don't think it's as simple as Kris's soul being Cyan because if we really stop and think about this all flowers have some similarities with Kris no matter how small.
Bravery and Kris both have body dysmorphia.
Seth and Kris are both kind of hypocrites.
Green and Kris are the silent supportive type.
Yellow and Kris have OCD and suicidal tendencies.
Blue and Kris are generally kind but can be extremely vengeful and petty when someone they care about gets hurt.
Flowery and Kris has internal self loathing and is willing to make horrible decisions that could potentially doom his loved ones.
So. As you can see they are all somewhat similar to Kris, it's just that Aqua is the MOST similar to Kris. So instead of saying Kris's soul is Cyan because they share similarities with Aqua we must first need to discuss why all the flowers have some similarities with Kris specifically.
Before this, I had once described Aqua and the other flower people as the personification of how Kris's parents and Asgore failed them.
And i still think that this interpretation does hold some amount of value especially when you look at Green's scene where people didn't notice how their fighting was affecting Green until she got visibly sad by it.
Just like how Asgore couldn't tell he was hurting Kris until Kris got physically hurt.
This becomes even more abundant when you remember how all the human flowers are so fixated on what even a human is as if they don't fully understand what it means to being a human something that is true for Kris as well, as Kris also struggles with their humanity due to growing up in a all monster society with no understanding of what a human is even supposed to be.
So with all this in mind we must ask, what does this actually mean for the connection Aqua seemingly shares with Kris?
Well in my interpretation of flowers representing how society failed Kris. I describe Aqua as representing the lack of Patience the society had for Kris.
My reason being that while yes Aqua is a child who can't stay still and ask questions Aqua also has the tendency to ask a lot of questions and not everyone has the patience to explain everything to her leading to her just copying others to try to understand the world around here.
And this is where everything about Aqua starts to make sense.
Because there is one more instance where copying is involved.
Chapter 3 sword route with a Black Deer.
We have always interpreted this scene as the Black Deer copying us but what if it meant to represent something else?
What if it meant to represent Kris copying someone else?
What if just what IF? It's meant to represent Kris copying Dess.
Because here is something interesting about Aqua. She is the only flower person not unsettled by Kris hurting her. Instead of feeling pain, sadness or even fear she instead just remarks "oh this is what pain feels like." And just throws knives at Kris back copying them.
From the very beginning we have known that Dess used to hit Kris with a bat but we never knew how Kris might have reacted to these hits until now. To me the game seems to be implying that instead of Kris feeling scared or hurt by Dess at the beginning they were just curious enough to know what pain feels like.
Don't get me wrong i don't think Kris actively seeked out pain or that they were obsessed with it but I do think they were at least curious about it to the point that at the beginning Dess hitting them didn't bother them. To them perhaps her hitting them was just another form of love or game. Which they might have copied because to them that's what it meant to be "normal".
This also clears up something we knew about Kris from chapter 4. Specifically the egg room line about Kris that potentially hinted at them harming someone and being sent to therapy for it.
I think to me this indicates that instead of Kris having a dark side or them potentially harming someone out of anger. I think it just meant to represent how Dess influenced Kris. As in I think Kris didn't harm anyone out of malice but rather because to them that was considered "normal" because Dess used to hit them with a wiffle bat in a joky kinda way.
In short. To me Aqua represents how the monster society never had the patience for Kris, to explain Kris everything they needed to know which is why Dess became their role model and where they learnt all the good and bad habits from, by copying Dess. Aqua and to some extent Dess are meant to represent the foundation of Kris and how they ended up the way they are. Because everything that happened to Kris started with Dess.
Since Aqua is new this is not likely my last analysis on her. However I do think a surface level analysis is a good starting point considering how confusing Aqua is.

At first, I thought Kris meant both Kris and the player. But in time, I realized that wasn’t the case. I’ll just keep it as a theory for now.
This is for the lesbians and the gays btw. Happy pride month.
